Crazy weather here too. Our maples have put out new leaves and my Carolina jasmine is blooming. Might be an interesting Spring! Random question…has anyone made shampoo bars that you like? Seems like the price has really shot up on those. Or maybe you know where to purchase fair value bars?!

Wow! Jasmine blooming in December.

Re: shampoo bars. Yes, my go-to was J. R. Leggitt's shampoo bars. The organic grocery stores carry them, plus I think Target may, too. Here's a picture.

Yes, they got too expensive! I have several put back for if I fly to Europe (bucket list trip when I retire), but I'm now using Dove liquid shampoo with a drop or two of tea tree oil in it in the summer when I'm sweating.

At one time, I tried making shampoo bars. There are various recipes online. They didn't clean my hair all that well. I have oily hair that gets super oily in the summer, no matter what I do, and our hard water doesn't help it. The shampoos for hard water make me itch! The current formula for Dove works and it's not expensive. Sometimes I even find it at Menards for $5.

** these recipes use lye . . . I bought lye for soap making at the farmers market, but at one time, Hobby Lobby and Michael's (I think) also sold small amounts. **

I'm down with a ferocious stomach and gut bug, so this will be a very quiet day.

Made a pot of Emergency chicken soup for when i can keep anything down. Basic idea: 8- 10cups of water and/or chicken broth so there will be plenty of finished broth to sip. Throw in a large handful of uncooked brown rice and a can of chicken breast. Add salt, dried parsley, sage, marjoram, rosemary, sage. I add dried celery and mushrooms, fresh onions and carrots, and some chopped dried craisins. Simmer all together.

The idea is to make a tasty, nourishing soup with a lot of broth for a miserable tummy and gut. I always feel better with this, and it gives me a warm 1-dish meal for a couple of days. I serve it with toast once i start to feel better.

In a way, this general recipe is a prep b/c i make sure to keep these simple dried ingredients on hand, along with some canned chicken i buy on sale.

Meemur, go ahead and start drawing SS on your full retirement date because the amount will not increase by working extra months and you'd lose those month's SS income. I started drawing at full age and continued to work until 70. I saved my earnings during that timeframe and lived on social security which allowed me to both build retirement savings and get myself adjusted to the lessor income. In the end, I'm drawing my late dh's amount which is quite a bit more than mine was.

We're still under a dense fog advisory and I'm sick and tired of the gloom. Forecast just added a wind advisory for Sunday and Monday plus snow for Sunday. Don't you just love winter!!!!!!!!!!

My back is still not happy, so I've not accomplished much all week. Part of the not accomplishing anything probably is the lack of sunshine. Next week doesn't have much sun in the forecast either.

Years ago, I worked with two sisters in a family of nine sisters, and they all used Dove bath soap for washing hair. Both the gals had beautiful hair.

3+ hours yesterday fixing horse fence and walking the front pasture, repairing more. Extra Tylenol first.
Woke up to horses in the back yard. Son came home early from work in afternoon to help get them back in pasture.
They aren't getting a good shock. I have another trick to try.
WTH? High of 61, low of 19. Pretty much sick of all this.
Some odds and ends to do this morning. Then going to TSC. Coal and fencing material. Son and I are going to have to replace the fence, it's been in place for 18 years. I have rewired it occasionally but it's just a combobulated mess.

Up at 4 to check stove and load. My dogs aren't barking so I'm hoping the horses are still in.

Meemur, labor intensive is the word here. Just got to get through the winter, then will have months to figure out a plan for next winter.
