Wanderlore, you know how it is when you live out in the country. there are just some things that are not available out here. DH (the man is so good - I really don't deserve him) found a place closer and they are in-network with our insurance! It is still about an hour and 15 minute drive, but that's better than 2 hours! It's also easier to get to, has hotels and restaurants close if I get stuck there by weather, and I'm sure the department is easier to find in the hospital. It took me 20 minutes to find the department I had to go to today, even after I was in the hospital!

I did learn some interesting stuff today. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) is used to improve blood and oxygen flow to at-risk tissues (think bed sores, non-healing wounds, or like me - issues with post-radiation bone resorbtion). When done prior to dental work (like my case), it can improve outcomes for up to 10 years (there is strong research showing improvement for at least 5 years). So I can get treatments done, then wait on extraction if I need to, then have post-treatment ones done. It has very few side effects (there are some - barotrauma to the ear drums, temporary vision changes, and possible very rare pneumothorax).

I was really dreading today, but it turned out OK. Thank you so much for all the prayers - they help so much!

Picked Grand up at Fort Leonardwood today. His drill Sargeant gave them only 2 minutes to grab personal items so had to stop and buy clothes and personal items. He wears glasses now. He and his platoon buddies were told to enjoy the time at home. Once back on base, if they want out, they will be allowed to get out of the Army. His young cousins didn't know what to think when they saw him. Looking forward to spending time with him.

Last 2 days have been nice weather. It's going to be 75 at home for Christmas. Grands have friends over so there's lots of laughing and giggling going on. It's been nice to get away but it will be nice to be home too. Furnace guy says furnace is toast so will have that to deal with.

Praying for everyone.

Boy that's really good to hear about the hyperbaric. I had read things and wanted my sweetie to do it if ever he was able.
Oh yes to drives. Everything for Scot was the minimum hour away if we had to go to the city 2 hours. Trying to get through the hospitals, find the cafeteria etc etc oh boy do I know. Plus carting stuff around and getting back to the vehicle in the parking lot and try to rest oh my gosh.
Moldy if you can manage it, I think it will be worth it. Prayers absolutely.

Patriotgal, wow sounds like a wonderful crazy bunch! I really miss that sometimes. Can't imagine that warm weather for Christmas that's nice.
It was so windy yesterday part of the barn roof is coming up. If we get a warm enough today I'll get my grandson out here and my son and get them to go up and fix it it's just the edge of the barn so just the ladder and the drill.
It was 53 day before yesterday. Yesterday it struggled to get above 19. With the windshield it was 1 degree most of the day.

Son left last night for 36 hour shift. The wind has stopped and it's supposed to be warmer today. I've got all kind of stuff here to deal with my tooth pain. Using some gabapentin too boy that's that stuff make you loopy.
Getting one cup of coffee, it's 4:29 in the morning, dogs got me up.

Son's dog had that shot arthritis he's on the third day and already it is really really helping. So I think after the next shot, it's once a month, we are going to see drastic improvements. It's worth a hundred bucks a month easy.

Krysyan, I don't know how you do it. You got a lot on your plate, you're working, your son and trying to get the house bought.
My sister cares for her son 17 years now he is medically fragile. But he's actually been doing much better since they moved to North carolina.
She doesn't have any help but she says that he's stable and she knows how to do things pretty quick. Sometimes even though it can be overwhelming it's easier to do it ourselves.
It's like somebody wanting to help you clean the house. At least for me anyway, I appreciate it but I can buzz through and get everything done pretty quick. Even with the sciatica if I can get it to calm down I can work circles.

Okay I'm just rambling sorry guys.
Praying for all of you every morning.

I'm frustrated but I'm setting it aside for now. The weekend after Christmas I'm going to put in mortgage apps at 2 more places. But at this point I'm looking at what the amount available would be. And if I'm not buying from family, first time buyer programs are available. I don't know how/why but my entire being just said that enough was enough.

If she insists on dragging it out, it gives me time to save more towards a down payment. And time to look. There is a rather large "zone" that would keep us close to certain people that are "family" and close to son's doctor, while putting us in a rural area.

Moving will be hard on son and will cause issues for a while. We have been in this house for 17 year, almost 18. But I'm tired of the broken lies and the situation it leaves us in.

Dh is home for the rest of the year so I'm off track on everything lol. He's working on projects. He did make me a new tabletop for my quilting frame though. He's making a table for his 3D printer now.
That is going upstairs to what was Michael's room. He got moved out Thursday! The house just feels different lol. We rarely saw him but it is just different. I can walk out of the bedroom in my pj's if I want. I had to move stuff again in my quilting room though so dh and ds can get this table upstairs and now its a mess. It seems that when dh is home all I do is move things around lol.

The woodstove has been out for day three now. It's chilly this morning but by afternoon it will be warm so...

I'm going to get dgd and dgs Monday or Tuesday and bring them over here for a couple hours. Dgs has firmly refused a bottle so it's the first time for this! He's eating some now though and they're trying to get him using a cup. DD wants him to start being able to stay with me or the other grands for a little bit when she has closings. He's getting to the point being still isn't working lol. The other gm tried keeping him a few weeks ago and told them no more. I told dd I was not worried about him screaming. We can distract him. Not the first time I've kept a baby that wants just his mama lol. Obviously if he gets too upset I'll take him home but we're hoping we can keep him happy for an hour or two at least.

I'm also praying a lost amazon package makes it here today. It was supposed to come last Sunday and has been bounced around all over the place. It was in my town Thursday but instead of being delivered it went 2.5 hours away to be processed. It shows as being back here this morning and they're saying delivery by today so....it's got part of several people's Christmas presents in it so....

Oh lordy I sure understand all of this. The home buying and the grandbabies lol..

Scot and I bought three houses during our marriage. The first one was this old abandoned house you hardly could see the house or the barn. It was owned by the bank. We could have gotten it for a lot cheaper but Scott was very eager which I told him you can't look eager.
It was a beautiful house though it had been designed by an architect. And we had a new barn roof put on by the amish.
Then we bought the old Grange hall which we own for 12 years. I loved it there but nobody else did.
We moved there because Scot got injured and was off of work for three months. I really loved living at the Grange it was so peaceful and quiet. We had to file bankruptcy because we couldn't afford the house anymore. It was okay because a month after we got our discharge, he found this little farm just a mile from the grange. It was all grown up too with corn all the way around it 5 ft from the house. The farmer came and cut it down for us. He gave us a land contract no problem. We got a mortgage years later and then paid it off so the properties paid for.

I am praying for you girlfriend because you have so much on your plate and this is just too much for her to do to hassle you like this.

On the subject of grandbabies haha, I took care of Noah and Levi from birth on and I tell you I had some moments there. But I love them so much and they have grown to be wonderful children. Noah is going to be 13 in April and Levi will be 12 soon.

Wow! Everyone has a lot going on. Prayers said!

It's funny. I make a point of looking at the calendar each morning and repeating to myself: It's Saturday, Dec. 20 (or whatever) and in my mind, I know that this coming Thursday is Christmas, but it feels like some other time of year! My time sense is still really messed up. It might be because of the weather: we recently had late January weather, sub-zero temps, and now it's back to either typical November or maybe March (we had actual rain on Thursday, not sleet).

I don't know. In any case, the weather guys are now talking about a 60-degree day on Christmas. I'm going to haul out the grill for sure if we get that! I will also keep an eye on the weather. That sort of warmth could lead to some mighty storms, maybe even a rare December tornado. Ugh!

Today's projects include dropping off the rest of the Christmas cards / gift cards and related tasks. If nothing else, it's nice to have temps in the upper 30s rather than sub-zero and clear roads.

supposed to be 64 and sunny, today, but we could get a few sprinkles this afternoon and tomorrow morning. 49 for our low, tonight.

Not really doing much, today. I bought a basket of organic orange, red, and yellow bell peppers from a farmer's market stand when in town the other day. I'll be chopping those for the freezer. They are really nice peppers, too. I didn't get as many from the garden this year as I normally do, so these will add to those.

Still praying for everyone. :rs:

Trying to get all chores done. It was 19 when I went out but it's up to 31. Windy a bit.
Drug the trash out to burn. Scots memorial sign was on the ground. Tarps off the boat and mower. Lots of limbs down. Threw those on fire. Doing the dog shuffle and tending the stove.
Got ice on my bad tooth. Lord.

I have a bad tooth, also. I'm having to wait, until at least March, before I can have it pulled. I had my Prolia injection in November, and because of it, I can't have any dental work done, until then. The tooth is doing ok, unless I bite down on something hard. It has already been filled, twice, so it needs to be extracted. I'm really considering getting dentures, because my teeth are getting worse and worse every year thanks to Sjogren's Syndrome.

Miracle today. By accident we found a way to helps calm. A styrofoam cooler is being sacrificed. Son is content and calm. We are now asking around to see if we can create a supply until he stabilizes.

I am slowly getting more things handled. Including the discovery that my new insurance said my doctor was on it, but she isn't. I have to make some phone calls but I may need to find a new doctor really fast. Maybe it is fate stepping in.

Part of clean up has been putting new organizers in. So more things for thrift and more things in trash. A little at a time but as I get more energy, more amounts of little things get done.

Kind of pissed at Amazon at the moment. Friend and I share an account. She didn't have enough on her card to cover it. Instead of sending an email that says "Hey, your payment method failed. Which alternate method would you like us to use?" They started running the charge on every card connected to her account. It pulled from my checking. It tried to pull from my son's trust accounts. I managed to stop those. Charge is paid. I covered it and pulled from savings. She finally admitted to me just how deep in the hole she is. She holds some responsibility for this. But Amazon's bs is over the top. Even WW will send an email rather than charging every card in the account.

Anyways, going to work on some more house stuff.

When I was doing radiation, it was a 90 minute drive one way five days a week for six weeks. I could drive myself for about the first 4 or 5 weeks, but had to have drivers for the last bit. My friends and co-workers were amazing and took me. But radiation was only an 8 minute treatment, so I was maybe there for a half hour tops. This is different.

I ran the UTV around the property to see what all damage there was. I think we have enough trees down (that were dead already) for firewood for at least 5 years. Now if it would just magically cut and split itself - that would be great! making up some tuna noodle casserole because it sounded good. Got all the kids' Christmas packages mailed yesterday - still need to do mom's and siblings and run a couple to friends next week.

Thats the thing about living rural. The drive to everything. I could get things cheaper if I went to Hillsdale. But its 45 min drive. I have to take the back roads so I don't get run off the road.

Just had a surprise visit from our friend we have known since he was a kid. He is ex Amish. We had a good visit.
He told a trick about keeping the horse water tank unfroze. I'm going to try it if the tank ever thaws.

I have some more hearing back in my left ear. Not close to full hearing but better. I whiched to taking Dimatap and Triminic instead of the Zyrtec and Claritin. They just weren't working.

I have been cooking for our meal at church tomorrow. I am bringing deviled eggs, coleslaw, and cookies. They love my eggs and my coleslaw. Hubby is hoping they leave him some cowboy cookies. They are his favorite.

I sold 30 more bales of hay today. The stack is pretty small in the barn but there is still a trailer full. I need to unload it. We might need to use the trailer some time

I have a lot still to do still. Have a Blessed Weekend.

ginnie6 - you are right, if your nerves can handle the crying, eventually the baby will wear itself out and peace will return. My policy was to check diapers etc. and all okay then crying was good exercise for the lungs ... hard on the ears through! A bottle or cup might have more appeal after all the screaming stops. As a foster parent, you have no other option.

kyrsyan - do you have anyone to provide respite care for your son? Plans for the what ifs when you have medical emergency or when you really need a break? When you are ready to move forward with the house purchase and have alternatives in place, I would have a face-to-face meeting and give them a deadline and dollar amount or you're out. Let them know in uncertain terms how sick and tired you are of being jerked around. People will take advantage as long as they can get away with it.

I've not been out of the house today, but the sun has been shining so I'm happy! Currently 31º/feels like 12º so not bad. My neighbor was coming over to borrow a platter, and I asked her to grab my mail as she came so didn't even need to go out for that.

I've very frustrated about not hearing from my repairman so still no oven. Christmas time and I cannot bake. That's just not right! Guess I'll be experimenting to see if you really can bake in the roaster oven. I've never used it for anything other than turkey, ham and bags of chicken quarters. I guess I've used it when cooking batches of tomatoes for canning.

We have around 16 of those roaster ovens in the church kitchen but seldom use them since we no longer are doing a Thanksgiving dinner for the community. It was interesting because we'd have them scattered around the church so the breakers wouldn't switch off from overload. We'd set up a "pie" room and another gal and I would spend hours cutting and plating pies. The last year we did only pumpkin pies because it never failed, we'd have someone have a meltdown because we'd run out of whatever other pies we had. I'm sorry we stopped doing the community dinner, but the amount of work that went into that was beyond exhausting and time consuming. Today most of the younger women work full time so their help is limited. Three of our best "older" workers developed health issues so could no longer help. I think I'm now the oldest on the committee. We never charged just a free-will offering and we'd announce ahead of time where the money would go. Food was mostly donated so expenses were minimal.

I've decided to cook a "holiday" meal for just me. Leftovers will be extensive which is fine with me.

Check with your utility company about rebates or credits available for a new energy efficient furnace.
New system is 18k. Not enough rebates for that. We can move into inlaws house if we have to for the winter. We may just use fireplace and heaters til spring. Tough it out. We could also move our bed into living room where fireplace is.
We were hit with too many financial surprises in November and December to address a new furnace.
Farm house layout would require bunch of mini splits. Will probably source a new water furnace from out of state come spring. Much, much cheaper.

Yea! My Tracfone refill card finally showed up. I'll try to load it in the morning. I'm not patient enough to mess with typing numbers on small screens tonight.

I miss my landline phone and my answering machine. That set up was great! I could use the phone when I needed to and ignore it the rest of the time. No fussing with re-charging or having to worry about misplacing it (or it being stolen!)

And, no, it's not possible where I live. They've been pulling out the old copper wire. No more landlines.

The small town we do most of our shopping in is only about a 20 minute drive, but to go to Tupelo, it's about 40 minutes. I don't want to live any closer to either of those. If I had to choose a place to live in either of those places, it would be the small town. It's peaceful with very little crime. Everything a small rural town should be. Very conservative, too.

I've been trying to get Mom to get rid of her landline phone, so she won't have that extra bill each month. She wouldn't do it, because her Life Alert pendent is hooked into her landline. Cary checked a few days ago, and it won't be a problem to have the Life Alert switched over to her cell phone. I think she plans to let him do that for her after the first of the year.

Talking about new furnaces, Cary is already trying to decide what we will do, once he is no longer able to work the firewood. Whatever he decides, I know, is going to cost us a lot. We have 2 options, I don't like either one. One is to have a heating and cooling system put in, or have another propane gas line run to hook into a new propane heater, once the wood heater is taken out. We'll probably have to make that decision in a couple more years if not before. It would be great if we knew we could get firewood that could be delivered.

Rain last night and this morning. 59 for our high, today, and 44 for our low, tonight. Local weatherman said this morning that we were going to break a record on Christmas Day at 75*. I hope that doesn't mean tornadic weather is in our future.

I made it to church today without falling on the icy patches that were treacherous. Got a ride home.

I was majorly disappointed at church today. Sunday before Christmas and one ONLY ONE Christmas carol. We have a talented music group, but they do not do hymns, or I guess Christmas carols. They do the currently popular choruses which to me are rather repetitious. It makes me sad that the children in our church will never know the hymns many of which are a sermon in themselves. It also makes me sad that I never get to hear them either! Many of us have asked for at least one hymn per Sunday but we're fortunate to get one per quarter. I have to pray for a better attitude each week and, to be honest, when I'm watching on U-tube, I skip the music most of the time.

My new furnace in November 2023 cost $4,365.60 installed. Natural gas forced air connected to existing duct work. I need to change the filter which I keep forgetting to do. I think the one in now was put in in late October so past due to be changed.

It's supposed to be 48º tomorrow then lower 40's the rest of the week. Christmas 46º and cloudy. Hopefully some of the ice and snow will disappear. My sump pump has been running so guess melting is already occurring. White Christmas's are highly overrated.

Not much happening here, today. No home fellowship, but when I got on the forum this morning, I didn't realize it was Sunday! My days this past week have been all messed up. I had to look on the calendar one day just to know what day it was.

Light rain, tomorrow, but still unseasonably warm. Cary wants to take me shopping for my coat, tomorrow, too. I sorta wanted to wait, until Christmas was over, but he wanted me to have it for Christmas. The way our winter is going, I might not even need a jacket this year much less a coat!

I already know the crowd is going to be horrible in town, but we'll have our heads on a swivel and ready for any trouble. I hate crowds with a passion.

❗️This is an excellent post from @apexprepping This is something I would be willing to bet most people don't think about. Mental Health and Stability, is an important factor when dealing with short or long term emergency situations. Keeping adults and especially the younger ones active and occupied can help ease tensions and fears. Especially if you are having to shelter inside for extended periods of time, and those electronics aren't working; due to power outages, no service, etc. I have planned for this and have a dedicated box set aside. Books, puzzles, coloring books, playing cards, crayons, plain paper, pens, pencils etc.⬇️⬇️⬇️

At this time, yes. It's always one of those life things.

All I am going to tell them, once things are in place, is that I'm also looking at other houses. That will either stop the nonsense or it won't. But until they present me with a contract to sign, I no longer feel obligated.

Got a full round of civilization today. Went to Union Station and the Crowne Center. Took the teenage girls. It was gorgeous and fun. Lots of walking. The teen Grand girls are well behaved as were their friends.
Last night some of the extended family came over with their little ones. We were treated to a magic show. It was so cute. Took some pleading but we also got to see the 5 year old's cheerleading routine.
Kids sleeping on pallets certainly brings back memories.
