SB, layers are your friend, and wear a stocking hat when it's cold.
I would put a hoodie on underneath the vest. The pieces can be worn separately, too.

I always just dress in layers or with a light jacket all winter. Our winters aren't that cold compared to those up North, though. I've never really needed a heavy coat, except on occasion when we get snow or ice, and I have to be out in it. I do have boggins and scarves in several colors. I've just kept putting off buying a good coat, because of the expense.

I looked at Christmas Day temp on phone. It will change a bit in coming days but now forecast is 80.
Hubby and I get slightly different forecasts on our phone.

The weather guessers are hinting that Central Iowa might hit 50 on Christmas Day.

While I should be rejoicing, it's scaring me to no end. We can have some horrible storms when that much heat collides with a seasonal cold front. Our normal temps at that point should be in the lower 30s to upper 20s.

I'll be keeping a watchful eye on the weather.

PSA: if you have melting, slushy piles of ice and wear hiking or winter boots with good traction, please continue to do so until the piles are gone. I saw a jogger go down hard when I was at the trail today (she was fine!) because she had switched over to her running shoes.

When I was stocking up heavily I stocked up on canned yellows squash and canned zucchini and small cans of chicken, could not even think about eating either when I was doing chemo. I’m over 3 months post chemo, now I can eat them. A can of either squash or zucchini with a small can of chicken, heat and stir an egg in it. Just had some for the first time in many many months, love it again. So sick of tv dinners

I have a years worth.

It is genetic for males. Do you know why it takes a million sperm to impregnate one egg? Not one of those rascals will stop and ask directions. We men can't help it. :)

I have a name for that MMS -- Macho Moron Syndrome. I mentioned that to a nurse in the ER one time when my dh was in in so much pain he could hardly speak and when asked said I'm okay. The nurse said she saw a lot of MMS and I should write a paper on it.

Long day of sitting around, but brakes are fixed, along with several other problems having to do with the transmission. I'm so thankful to have these problems addressed now!

I'm going to try to keep this car on the road a little longer. I'm just not happy with what's on the used car market around here. Since this is likely my last car, I'm fairly picky.

Major melting has been going on. The trails are a lot safer today. There's still some ice humps here and there, but the center is fairly clean. Several guys passed me on road bikes today, not fat tire ones, which are more typical for winter biking.

We made our trip there and back without incident. Had a great visit with my aunt. I love her new apartment. It's as big as my house, in a very nice apartment complex, in a nice neighborhood. We got Mom back home and settled. We both are tired and are going to relax the rest of the afternoon as soon as I check the forum news.

I just checked, and it's supposed to be 71 degrees for us Christmas Day. We are prone to having tornadic weather in December when a strong cold front comes through with temps that high. A few years ago, a town about 60 miles away got blown away by a tornado on Christmas Day.

My friend Morgan came over and helped me clean out the old condiments, about 12 bottles of ketchup and all kinds of salad dressings, I replaced the ketchup with three bottles of organic ketchup from Whole Foods and three bottles of Paul Newman’s salad dressings that have good quality ingredients, honey mustard, it’s delicious. Big box of old stuff headed for the dump

It's been a productive day in a lot of ways: got cookies finished (hope to pack tonight), house cleaned, laundry done, the accountant talked to, and the dental issue started rolling. I have an appt. Friday in the big city - to set up multiple other appts in the big city. Sigh. Not much choice - it's gotta get done, I just don't look forward to it.

Little kitty crossed the bridge this morning in my arms. Poor thing. People just dump them out here. I did what I could.

Son had a very good experience at vet with old dog yesterday. He's healthy, just old. They have a promo ( company does) of first shot librela is free. $92 a month after that. We'll see if it works at all. So he got out of there with $60. Exam fee.
If he wants to have Labs x-rays all that ran it will be $800. But he agrees dog doesn't need all that. They said they don't see anything wrong with him nothing stands out that he's healthy he's a little chunky otherwise just old age and arthritis.

Hubby got his other eye done yesterday. It was just a laser procedure to make the lense clear again. I am glad that is all done. Today he goes to the local clinic so they can check to see how if things are as they should be.

Last week we had 2 new tires put on the front of one truck. Yesterday, he had to go back to the tire shop because all the wheel weights had came off. They put a glue on type this time. Hubby also replaced the shocks on that truck. I am his helper so he doesn't have to get up and down much.

He dropped me at Hobby Lobby before the tire shop. All Christmas was 60% off. I got some things to redo my Christmas wreath. It's showing its age. Hopefully, I can "fluff" it a bit and be good for a few more years. While there I got some kitchen towels, pot holders, dish rags, and utensils in red plaid and stripes. They all match and aren't just necessarily Christmas. Our granddaughter in OK has her 1st appartment and these are for her. She is supposed to be coming to her dad's for several days over Christmas. We will get to meet her 5 month old daughter for the first time. We will have gifts for her and her older brother. Today while we are in town, I want to get the great grands some clothes to send home with them.

We got all the wood split that was ready. We have to get it hauled and stacked into the shed. There is still some tree tops that will make some more wood, but most is done. We filled the wood racks on the porch while the weather was nicer. It looks like we are ready for a blizzard, but it may be 70* on Christmas Day. The wood we split will be used in 2 or 3 years. We try to stay ahead.

I got my onions planted in my raised beds. That's not where I wanted them, but at least they are in the ground. We still need to chop the leaves on the yard and put them on the garden. Then I will till them in when I can get to it.

Our days we babysit have changed from Thursday to Monday. We keep them from 1 p.m. till we meet their dad after work about 10:30. We had a good time Monday, but I have been confused about what day of the week it is. My routine is out of order. I did get the Christmas tree decorated early Monday morning. The 3 year old loved it. The 8 year old liked it too, but the little one spent a lot of time just looking it over.

I need to get more coffee and get busy. Have a blessed day everyone.

I'm working on breakfast right now, and then I'll hit the trail. It's in the upper 30s. Lots of melting has occurred! It was also raining earlier, not snowing. I will watch for ponding and flooding on the roads.

Sorting and cleaning continues. Too boring to go into much more detail, but I'm happy there's some progress. I'm much further along than I was last year at this time.

54 degrees and raining. 64 for our high, today. We're making a run into 2 towns for our shopping. I need to pick up some items, before Christmas. Hopefully, we'll be back, before the storms move in this afternoon. Local weatherman said, this morning, that they would have full coverage of the weather starting at noon. They don't do that, unless they expect severe weather.

I could use some prayers if you have them to spare. This house sale was almost in the bag, maybe 3 weeks. And wife is now raising a ruckus saying she wants more. Turns out they took out a HELOC for their expenses (on an already paid off house!). Now she wants me to pay enough to completely pay off their HELOC. Even though I've been doing 99% of the maintenance and repairs for almost 10 years now.

She tried to drag me into the middle of this fight and I was having nothing doing. I told her exactly what I told her husband. And sent him all the documentation that she requested so she can't do any "behind the scenes" bs, which she loves to pull.

In 6 months I've saved over $5000.00. No she doesn't know that. If she keeps on this track then I will shift focus. I will continue saving, clear the house of things I don't want to move, stop doing the maintenance. In another year I should have a decent down payment, with the tax returns, of almost $24,000 to pair with the surprisingly good credit score. And it's likely the bubble will have softened. So I can then look at a new place. Yes, it will be rough as hades on son but I'm tired of this hanging over my head. Especially since the original agreement was none of this and they reneged on that because I didn't have it in writing.

We're back home from doing our shopping, and it didn't rain on us at all. The rain stopped just as we were leaving. a second round is moving in in about an hour or so. This one has the potential for severe weather. I was really hoping we would make it back, before it got here.

I did good cutting my grocery bill. It's down to only $200 every 2 weeks, now. Eating less, storing less, and cooking less. I'm now saving almost $300 every 2 weeks, since my grocery budget has always been $500 every two weeks. My pantry is full, so I'm not continually buying to stock it. Only the basics as I use those on a regular basis. We are fully stocked for at least a year with long term storage foods, too.

My Sam's order goes out tomorrow. Cary covers the cost on that.

Chef's salads for supper. I have left over turkey and ham to go in them, plus, I'm boiling eggs for them, too. I really like a lot of add-ins. It really does make a meal.

Big winds outside. It got to 51 today! For December in Michigan, wow! In the 20s tomorrow. Heavy winds right now. I was able to make a dump run, pick up meds and other stuff. Found salt and put that down outside.
Stove much better since cleaned. Got the new dog some pigs ears.

Prayers said for you, Kyrsyan.

I'm also reminded that if God shuts a door, He opens a window. If, for some reason, you need to move, there might be a place even better waiting for you!

In any case, I'm sorry that you're getting crap. You have enough on your plate.

Added: Anna, I hope that you are doing OK! I see that your area has a blizzard going on. I hope that you are warm and still have power. We are fine down here. There was a light snow but no white outs.

Oh boy. Dental emergency last night at 10:30. Have everything but oragel. Son out running to every place open.
He finally found a quick stop that had it. When he got home, remembered he had clove oil in his jump kit!
I am working on the medical stuff today. Called all my neighbors, no one had anything.
Huge oversight on my part.

Rained all day into the night last night and it was up to 53°. Melted I would say 3/4 of the ice.
Overnight got really cold I think it is like 16° or something right now. But tomorrow will be in the 40s again so it will melt this little bit of lake effect.
I do read all of everybody's posts, even though I don't always comment I am reading and keeping up with everybody's goings on and all of you are on the prayer list.

50 for our high, today, and 29 for our low, tonight. The sun is shining. We got lots of rain during the storms that went through last night. Right after I made my last post about getting a storm, our power went out. Stayed off several hours. It was still off when we went to bed. During the storm, we were also issued a severe thunderstorm watch. NOAA was late issuing it, because we were already in the middle of the storm. Trees down that caused the power outage. We are good, though. No damage, here.

I'm cleaning out another kitchen cabinet, today. This is the last one I need to clean out and reorganize. I bought a stoneware deep dish pie plate, yesterday. I didn't have a pie plate other than the aluminum ones pie crusts come in. Since, I make pies to take to every occasion, I thought I needed something nice. So, since I bought something new, something old has to go, thus, cleaning out this cabinet. I have several beautiful serving trays in this cabinet that I never use that belonged to Cary's mom. I'm just moving them out of the cabinet into the storage mini barn. If I ever need them, I know where they are.

I'm using the last of the smoked turkey breast to make turkey and dressing for supper, tonight, along with gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. I'll eat a small portion of each. Cary loves cornbread dressing with either chicken or turkey mixed in. It's the Southern way.

This afternoon, I have to go into Denver to see about hyperbaric therapy. I would really appreciate prayers. I'm just being spoiled - I don't want to spend 7 hours a day for the next month and a half commuting and having therapy done. I want to be able to do it closer to home, but I don't think there is anything available. Looking into the portable chambers you can rent - they won't go up to the pressure that is recommended for me. And I am just not my usual cheery self today.

I'm praying for you for sure. Is the hyperbaric therapy for your dental issues? I don't think you've mentioned it before now.

Prayers said!

Twenty degrees and full sun! A lot of the ice and snow has melted. The trail was clear in most areas. I got in a great walk and even saw a red-headed woodpecker. That was cool because it's mostly crows and sparrows that hang out around the DNR feeders.

I also may have seen the fox, but it was moving away from me, and I didn't get a good look at it, but it was the right size.

Today's projects include trying to renew my Tracfone (I renew a year at time. It can be a pain!) and continuing with cleaning and sorting. I may also go area rug shopping at the ReStore. They got a bunch in that might include some acceptable colors. If so, I might treat myself to a new office carpet. If not, the rug will need some work. It was enough jute in it that my kitty uses it to sharpen her claws. I will get a berber next time. She leaves those alone.

Added: fingers crossed. I ordered the refill card at Target (it's cheaper than buying from Tracfone), but it's delivered in email. Sometimes it doesn't show up for a long time.

I finally mailed my Christmas cards today and then drove around a bit to warm the car and charge the battery.

Today it's 20º/feels like 3º, mostly sunny and the wind had died down to 17 mph. Yesterday, we had snow showers with winds steady around 25 gusting to 55 so the light snow showers caused white outs and highway problems. Lots of accidents in the area but only one injury requiring hospital which is the good news. No accumulation of snow because it all blew through too fast to stop!! Christmas Day is forecast to be 52º high/32º low so hopefully good traveling for those on the roads. In the 40's through the first part of the week so I'm hopeful the ice at the end of the drive goes away.

I've not accomplished much this week. Doldrums, I guess. Christmas alone bums me out and I will be alone again this year. My dd's job is really kicking her butt and she has only the one day off so wants to stay home and rest. I don't blame her but wish it wasn't that way. Other dd is in AZ. We'll have our family Christmas in January.

I usually buy my Tracfone cards at Walmart and do 90 days at a time. The website for adding minutes is difficult to navigate so I made crib notes to help me ... problem is I usually forget to look at them until I'm totally frustrated.

I've added a bunch of books and several other items to my donate boxes in the garage. I should try to get them dropped off next time I go to town.

I've been living on pantry/freezer since 11/14 and currently have no plans to shop before January. The stores are crazy this time of year. My lists are getting long, and it will be very expensive next time I shop but I will have the money saved in December to add to the January trip. All I've purchased locally is one loaf of bread and two half gallons of milk. With the grocery store closed, I have to try my luck at Dollar General or where I get gas. Dollar General locally is a disaster area 99% of the time so I really hate going there.

I've left two messages for the repairman for my stove and haven't heard back so still no oven. I have an electric roaster oven that can be used to bake so I may try baking brownies in it. I'll also have to use it for the ham I plan for Christmas. The repair guy is usually good about calling me back so I'm wondering if he's on vacation or ill.

Anna, I get 400 minutes from Target online for $99 (one year plan) and previous minutes also roll over. I agree: the website is awful. Instead, I downloaded the Tracfone app to my phone. Once I get the refill card number from Target, then I click on the Tracfone app, "refill" and then input those numbers and click done. If I have a strong signal, that's it. If not, I may have to try several times.

I don't make a lot of calls or texts, so that works for me, plus I have extra minutes if something happens where I need to talk or make more texts than usual.

In any case, I'm glad that you didn't lose power. That was a nasty storm!

WanderLore, that is encouraging!
