I love fresh and dried basil to use in tomato dishes especially. Cilantro is the devils weed to me and my whole family, we just never could develop a taste for it. I need to check and see if my lavender made it through this past year, I only had a tiny little plant. I’m planning on doing some pots on the front porch of rosemary, basil, thyme and sage soon.

What do you do with your sage? We found a lady the next street over who is selling seedlings for $1 each. That got me started. She had sage. I’m debating going back today to get some more herbs.

We finally got our yard and property all mowed and cleaned up, yesterday. Job accomplished! Cary still likes a bit on getting the tree all cut up and burned. Another two work outdoors days, and he should have it all finished.

Wouldn't you know it? We get everything cleaned up, and we had a tornado go through our small farming community around 4 am this morning!!!! It shook the whole house, but we have no damage, no trees down, and no debris at all in our yard. After the tornado passed, we got the warning on our NOAA alert radio and our cell phones. I'm thankful it wasn't a large tornado, because people could have been killed, without a warning issued alerting us to the danger. At 4am most folks are still in bed asleep. We were! Our house popping and shaking is what woke us up.

We've been through tornadoes before, but we always got a warning ahead of time. This one really was close, and we had no idea it was even happening. We still would not know what happened if we hadn't got the alert after the fact. Yeah, it was scary! We haven't been out and about in our community to see if there is any damage anywhere. Cary plans to do that later this afternoon, though.

We have another round coming through tomorrow!

Many people drink Sage tea too. Sage is a mild sedative and makes a good tea to drink in the evenings.
Sage also aids digestion and is often incorporated in recipes for large meals because it makes people eating a lot feel better.

I did not know that. Thanks!

I use sage in a homemade tooth powder, I need to make up a batch.

When we were in the big town yesterday I finally got my birthday dinner from 2020 where I wanted to go to Olive Garden. It was disappointing. I use to love to go to Olive garden in Slidell, but this one was just short of being awful. The salad bowl was sparse, they didn't bring any more bread sticks. We ordered from the lunch minue and the portions were tiny and not that good. I feel no need to go there again, at least to this one and its the only one in the area. DH didn't like his food either and he didn't want to go there to begin with. I've found that several chain restaurants that I've been to in the New Orleans area are much better than the same kind up here in yankee land (north Louisiana). Same with coffee, although there is one restaurant in Natchitoches that has great Community coffee.

We've never had the desire to go to Olive Garden. Cary isn't into pasta very much, unless it's used in my home made recipes. Now, New Orleans Cajun food is a winner at our house!

Sherree- I thought about you last night when I saw the radar map showing a long line of storms reaching up into my area and down into your area. I went to sleep around eleven and if it did much here, we both slept through it, but the radar looked like things were worse down your way. So glad you’re both okay and didn’t have any damage.

Judy- I hate when something I’ve looked forward to, turns out to be so disappointing. My youngest DD took her youngest son to Olive Garden after a dental visit and she was shocked that their lunch came to around $50.00. At least they said the food was good.

DH picked up a rotisserie chicken from Walmart to go with our supper last night, I was shocked that it costs $8.00 for that scrawny little bird. Prices are crazy!

Thanks for thinking about us! Yeah, we're ok, just a bit shaken up.

When we went to bed last night, we knew there was a chance of a few passing thunderstorms on our doorstep. We weren't expecting any tornadoes according to our local weatherman as of 5pm, yesterday afternoon. Totally caught us by surprise.

I don't get to caught up, any more, about my expectations about things so the disappointment was "oh well, we tried it and now its not something I want to do anymore. I've learned to take things in stride.

We also went to this great second hand book store, surprising there is one so nice and reasonable in this neck of the woods. I've taken books there in the past to exchange for credit, with a credit you get half off of your order. I treated myself to a big stack of books and only spent $36.00. One of my favorite genres are books about books. I ended up with several. I ventured into the history section and spotted a book called "1421 The year China discovered America". Seemed interesting. Thre is so much of our history that's not quite what we think it was and now with the idiocy going on it will be worse or in some cases more accurate. I do have a couple of boxes of books that I've culled to take the book store the next time I go to town.

So now I have another big stack of books that I have no shelf space for, what's a book person to do. (12)

I asked the lady in the book store how the shut down was for her and she said she was closed for either 5 weeks or 5 months, I can't remember. She said her employees never missed a paycheck. And that ultimately covid was good for her business.

Here in Alaska we are having a sunny day with winds 50mph, gusting to 75. Pretty normal. Glad I didn't get to raking the pinecones, dead branches, and bits of trash yet; many of them may just blow away. The raised beds are uncovered now to thaw, and the rhubarb, garlic, strawberries and flowering bulbs fertilized with liquid fish slurry. Trimmed the encroaching evergreens, thinned the black currants, and pounded some rebar in to prop up a piece of lattice next to the house. This was all done in the past week.

Due to an error in shipping, I have twice as many Stuttgarter onion sets as I planned for, but after seeing news that we may be getting very bad inflation (the Fed will no longer be reporting the money supply weekly since it went up so much in April)
I may change my plan and plant the double amount of this staple crop. It would be a good trade with my neighbors for smoked or frozen fish, too. The garlic I grow from my own cloves is a great trade/gifting item too.

Yesterday, when looking for something to wear to the doctors office, I had a hard time finding something that looked decent. I have a ton of clothes, in several sizes, but having lost a bunch of weight a few years back, I guess I gave away most of my better looking things, I guess in hopes that I would not be that size again. The blouse I wore fit well, but I don't like it and felt like a cow in it.

About 3 years ago I started putting on weight and thanks to the lockdown and I guess losing part of my mind, I've gained back all that I lost. I keep trying, but keep failing.

We haven't been to church in a good while and we are wanting to start back. But I need something attractive to wear. I checked the brand on my good old stand by, that looked good fat or much thinner, which is way I still have it. Checked the brand on ebay and I found a few. One of which I had given away and wanted to ask for it back but could not bring myself to do it. So I bought it again, its a really good color for me too. I think I found five all together, hopefully they will all work well. So for $100 I'll have 6 new blouses and one I put an offer on, I'll pay the full price if they don't accept my offer, its red which is my favorite color.

I'm happy that I broke down and added some new tops. I kept most of my fat jeans (size 20) so I'm good there, and I have my new shoes (vionic) that came last week, plus some new under ware. So I'm good to go for the long haul.

I have plenty of clothes to wear around the house. After looking at myself in the mirror at the doctors office and I was disgusted with myself for letting myself go, I've decided to take stock of myself in that area. Fortunately, I'm not really past the point of no redemption in the looks area.

More bad news for my family. My mom's only brother passed away last night from an apparent heart attack. Mom isn't taking it very well, so could ya'll say a prayer for her? They were very close, and didn't live too far from each other in the same small town. I'll be tending to Mom's needs, plus the funeral services all weekend.

Also, we are under another severe weather threat for this afternoon into tonight. Possible tornadoes, again. Our local weatherman says there's a strong possibility that we could see a tornado outbreak with this line of storms. So, any prayers you may feel lead to say for us would be greatly appreciated for this event, too.

Philkar- Sorry I’m no help as we’ve never grew any pinto beans.

Sherree- Prayers up for you all, so sorry for your family’s loss.

Judy- I feel ya! My weight has crept up on me too. I hate clothes shopping and I’m really in need of some things. I’m going to have to break down and play the guessing game on some sizes and make an online order and hope for the best!

DH and I discussed getting some new blueberry bushes today and planting them in the backyard since the first of our blueberries that I planted back in 1987 and a few since then haven’t been doing so well the past few years. The old ones are also a good distance from the new house on what I named Blueberry Hill way back then. The whole family loves blueberries and I feel better with the kids picking closer to the house. There is also a raised bed out back that I like to take out, it has garlic chives, oregano and thyme that I’d like to have moved but we’ll see.

Whew, little granddaughter has worn me out the past few days and I never came up with plan for supper so looks like egg sandwiches tonight.

Thank you.

I hate to keep coming here in this thread asking for prayer. I feel I'm keeping everyone off topic with all of our troubles. It has been non stop since January. Cary and I are both spiritually, physically, and emotionally drained. We both may have to take a break from the forum for awhile.

Never be afraid to ask for prayers! I certainly don’t mind uplifting others in prayer. I feel it’s a privilege to do so. I think God wants us to ask for prayer and pray for others. ❤

I’ve had spring break this week and return to work on Monday.
Prep wise hasn’t been crazy - deodorant for hubby (5), continuing to replace what we use, adding little by little to the pantry.

We did do some planting this week. I planted many herbs and want a good book on using them.

We should have the quarter cow (not sure how to call it) coming this week. Lots of meat for us! The freezer will be happy!

I brought home my puppy this week (a golden retriever) so most of my efforts have been in preparing for her. Not sure that counts, but it’s been amazing. I posted a pic of her in the cork board.

I feel the same way., but this is a prepping thread, and I feel so off topic. Hopefully and prayerfully, things will begin to look up for us soon.

We had another round of severe storms blow through last night. We didn't get any damage at all, thank God! Our NOAA weather radio and our weather alerts on our cell phones worked great last night. We got plenty of heads up warnings. We were just up, again, all night last night. Once we finally got to sleep in the wee hours of this morning, we didn't wake up, until 8 am. I feel like I'm behind on everything. We're usually up by 6am every morning.

Hugs for everyone! Ya'll are the best! :hugs:

Prayers offered up for your Mama, Sherree; as well as you and Hubby.

I put out a hummingbird feeder yesterday; just in case they show up a bit early - so far the only bird I've seen on it was a sparrow  I did finally remember to go out and put the rain gauge in it's holder; good thing because we've gotten some light rain off and on this morning. I can see peaches, pears, quince and red buds blooming from where I'm sitting so would like to take the grand dog and go for a walk in the woods, but the wind is picking up pretty good so we'll wait until Hubby gets home - spring winds tend to bring down widow makers, and they'll be even heavier than usual from the recent rains. I mostly want to see if the locust trees and trillium are in bloom - that was my Granny's sign to start looking for morel mushrooms.

I need to go out and heel in the strawberries and raspberries in a temporary location sometime today - didn't get it done when I had planned due to getting called in to work that day. We had a couple of days with temps in the 70's this week, but now it's back down to 50's and 60's with lows in the high 30's and 40's forecast for the rest of the week, so I may be able to move my houseplants outside to their shelves on the porch later in the week. I'll have to take cuttings from some of them to move them as they are way overgrown! The potted hostas I accidentally left on the porch over winter are sending up sprouts so it looks like I didn't lose them, but I am going to need to divide them! I also need to set out some marked down after Easter hyacinths that made their way into my buggy when I was picking up trip snacks for daughter yesterday - I don't have any purple ones in my side garden, only pink; so these will be a nice contrast.

I'm going to make a run in to the local grocery store in a bit - they have an excellent reputation for their meat with the local grillers and smokers, so I'm waiting until those folks clear out! I've got a craving for banana pudding so need some shortbread cookies; and I think I'll make Hubby some baked steak for supper this evening, with roasted potatoes/carrots and fresh cooked spinach with garlic infused red wine vinegar to go with it.

I don't think I'm going to go to Dollar General while I'm in town unless I decide to use my $5 off $25 coupon to buy some towels for the basement bath; the ones I have in there are getting pretty shabby. If they don't have any towels that suit me, I guess I could look for more canning jar lids; the case I picked up a week or so ago is only about a third of what I use in a year, so it wouldn't hurt to stock up a bit more. I should probably stop by the cemetery while I'm in town as well - I probably need to trim the grass around the peonies to make sure the groundskeepers don't pull my cages and mow them off.

No grandkids for two weeks so I'm going to try to use my rainy day spare time wisely and go through their clothes that I keep here again - the local foster children's closet put out a request for summer clothing and shoes, and I'm sure I have some of both that are in good enough shape to take over there. I have a couple of nice back packs I picked up at the thrift store to donate as well.

Well, I'm not getting much done sitting here on the computer - and I think the grand-dog is bored since he just dropped a slobbery possum toy in my lap, so I think I will load him up in the van while we have a break in the rain and go get my town chores done so that we can catch a nap this afternoon before I have to fix supper.

You folks all take care out there; stay safe!!

Thanks for your prayers, Renee!

Mom is doing much better, and she's going to be alright. She has 3 sisters, and they are all helping to support each other. Mom's younger sister and BIL are staying at Mom's house, until Tuesday. They live over in Florence, AL.

Since Mom's side of the family are the very wealthy, liberal, progressive side, I've never got along with my uncle that just passed, or any of his family. After praying about going or not going to his funeral services, God has made a way for me not to go. Cary and I will be staying at Mom's, Sunday, to watch over my uncle that is staying at Mom's. His health isn't very good, and my aunt doesn't want to take him to the services. We volunteered to watch over him. God is Good! It also answered my aunt's prayers about someone watching over her DH. This aunt and uncle are the only ones on Mom's side of the family that I've ever had anything much to do with ( beside my grandparents). They are not like all the rest in their politics, lifestyle, or attitudes. We've always been really close.

It's a beautiful warm sunny day, today. Clean fresh air after all the storms. I'm thinking of taking a long walk this afternoon, just because I want to. Fresh air outdoors will do me a world of good, I think. No prepping of any kind needs doing today. I'm waiting on my Walmart order to arrive. Should be early next week. Instead of ordering from Sam's, today, I'm hoping to get to Sam's on Tuesday. We will be in town that day, anyway. I really am spoiling myself by ordering from them online, though.

The storms were strong last night and it was still lightening like hell when I fell asleep. And I didn't wake up until 10:30, which is kind of usual for me. I'm no longer an early riser, I'm retired.

When at walmart yesterday I did buy an extra package of tP and a package of bounty paper towels. I usually use the cheap stuff from Dollar Tree. The price seemed reasonable so I went for it. A six pack of bounty will last us for months. At most I probably only use a couple of double sheets a day. I didn't use PT at all for years and years, so I'm not accustomed to using a lot.

I did get six cans of delmonte zucchini at 1.32 a can. Although its not nearly as tasty as the Progresso was years ago (in the '70's). And four cans of Lucks fried apples. The shelves and meat sections seemed normal, maybe not quite so full but it was Friday. I'm still cycling through all the cases of bottled water (15) I bought last year, so I have not started to restock water.

I will miss your posts Sherree if you do step away, but you have to do what you have to do.

Thanks for saying that, Judy. We'll see how it goes. I might not step away, fully, but won't be spending as much time here. It's all going to depend on what the doctors say about the nodule on Cary's lung and the COPD. I don't think I can handle any more bad news where he is concerned. We're still waiting on his appointments.

I understand what you're saying. The thing that has thrown us for a loop is that, before Cary had surgery, he had two chest x-rays done and heart tests. Everything was fine. NOW, one CT scan shows that he has a nodule on one lung, along with COPD. Also showed he has a large amount of calcium buildup in his coronary artery. Why didn't this all show up on his x-rays and heart tests before?
