From our house to yours, wishing you all a Blessed Easter!

Other Grandma had the boys overnight on Friday, so I stopped by the store on my way to pick them up Saturday morning and snagged some items for our Easter meal. Hubby sliced the ham and about 3/4 of it was vacuum sealed for the freezer, a batch of ham salad was made for lunches next week, more ham was diced and frozen in small vacuum sealed bags to use in the omelets I'm teaching older grandson to prepare; what was left filled a loaf pan and will be prepared for our Easter supper meal with daughter and the grandsons. I figure we are good for ham until at least late summer now :spns:

Once those chores were done - and once the boys had run off a bit of energy out in the yard; they, Papaw, and I got their room organized - I mostly sat on the floor or a low crate and sorted things - what a jumble those toys were in!! So now I have a pile of outgrown toys in the dining room to deal with... Some will be going to a cousin who is caring for a young great-nephew of the right age to play with them, some will be going to daughter's home for her to sell, and some will be donated to various charities - operation Christmas Child, a nearby counseling center for children who have been abused, and the Senior Center. And just a few items will be tucked away in Grandma's treasure (keepsake) chest, of course.

A little more running and playing in the yard, helping to fix supper, coloring eggs, bath time, and reading to Grandma filled the rest of the boys' evening. I found a set of reading books like the ones I used in school at the Habitat for Humanity resale shop a while back and youngest grandson has been reading me a chapter or two each time he is here - he is really enjoying them! Dick and Jane and Baby Sally; Mother, Father, Spot and Puff - it's like a reunion with old friends!

Today will be a mostly quiet day here on the farm; I have to run the grandsons home at 0800 for church and a luncheon afterwards. I will return home after dropping them off to do a little prep work for our Easter meal this evening - we were invited to church and to a couple of noon time meals, but I'm still not up to that much time sitting in a vehicle - or anywhere else for any length of time - without being able to frequently stand/change position/extend my leg.

My first goal once I'm back home will be to clear the kitchen island to serve as a buffet for supper, and finish clearing the kitchen table so we have a place to sit to eat said supper. While I'm doing that, Hubby is going to gather up all the medical mobility items other than the one cane I'm currently using and get them stored back in the closet downstairs; and then hopefully he'll get all the recently home canned and short to mid term storage items I've purchased to replaced the mysteriously disappearing inventory carried down to the store room as well - I'll do the rotating and restocking later in the week. I'm not able to go to the pool until I heal, so that will give me something to do to fill that couple of hours in the morning.

If I don't take a nap after lunch (which is likely, since I'm still up at 0030), I will have to choose between having Hubby set me up a crate to use for a seat in one of the flower beds to spend an hour or two doing some weeding and putting down mulch, or to swap out the boys' winter clothing for spring/summer gear - we went through the storage tubs of shoes and boots today while we were cleaning their room - I buy a size or two (or more!) up in clothes and shoes when I find them on clearance, but both boys have gained a size - or two! - since last summer. I'd rather be washing and lemon oiling my woodwork, but that requires climbing up and down a step stool, crawling along baseboards, etc... and I'm at least sane enough (stop snickering, Journey!) to know that it's just not gonna happen for a while.

Then it will be time to prep for our Easter supper - we will have a layered taco dip and assorted pickles and olives as an appetizer; ham, mashed potatoes, noodles, icky green bean cassarole, glazed carrots, deviled eggs, and pickled beets as the main course; hot rolls with honey butter, and a choice of lemon or chocolate pie for dessert. I'm hoping to pack up all but one meal's worth of leftovers to send home with daughter :D

Well, I've probably been sitting still too long already; better get up and get moving while I still can - hopefully to bed to catch at least some sleep before I have to get up early to prep the Easter Baskets for the boys - don't think Papaw would like me rummaging in the hiding spot under his bed for the items at the current time!

Take care all; stay safe and sane out there!

I spent 4 hrs over two days working on snowgo engine. Two hours in disassembly, removing head, and cylinders, removing and installing two new pistons. The next day I honed the cylinders smooth and wiping them down and reinstalled. I replaced the head, then reattached the carbs and various parts. Then I sat down and enjoyed a cup of coffee. After awhile, I turned down the idle and restored the fuel flow. I mixed another quart of oil into gas, and picked up the back end to slosh the tank and mix the gas.(it is two stroke) After ten or pulls, it restarted. Idling very low. It worked.Listening. After sometime I turned up the idle to norm and let it run.

Success!!

I marked where I found moose antler sheds on my gps. With that info I have been following and retracing my steps from all winter.i found a total of six sled loads, two loads the last month as snow has melted.

ReneeT, how’d you know I was snickering??

Seriously though, I wish you’d light somewhere and let that leg heal. I mean you could use the “down” time profitably by working on several chapters of Elly.....(ducking and running now because even though you can’t run after me I bet you have a wicked aim!)

We are six days from leaving on our road trip, so more packing and sorting was done. We are mostly finished, just have to wait for a laundry run on Thursday night to get the last things cleaned.

Didn't buy any preps, but decided to finally peek inside the Rubbermaid container sitting near my desk which has a ton of stuff sitting on top of it and hasn't been opened in ages. Found 35 lbs of flour that will need to be tossed, but also found 35 lbs of sugar (7 5lb bags--that's how long it has been!) and moved them to the new "nonperishable" cabinet. Peeked inside the smaller one next to it and found a bunch of rice and beans, all vac sealed. I just left them alone, as they should be fine, though I might have to grind up the beans if we ever have to use them.

Oh, when backing the emergency kit for the car, found out that a bunch of Bic lighters that I have had stashed for a number of years wouldn't light. The wheels at the top would not move at all. Lighters are cheap, so I tossed those and will pick up lighters here and there over the next few months. I do have an entire large Rubbermaid container full of matches.

We had part of those storms move through here on Friday afternoon. Lost power for more than six hours. I was at work and called SO to mention that the storm was going to hit earlier than predicted. That way the garbage cans and some other outside stuff made it into the garage before it hit. It was really windy. We lost a really large branch from a tree but it didn't hit anything. I was sent home from work after three hours with no power and SO was listening to the emergency radio and reading a book. Traffic was a mess because the lights were out at all the intersections. I turned on a battery powered lamp and started to get things ready for the trip. No problems here :)

Well, late last week I had to come to terms with a situation I have been dreading. I can't keep the grandsons and do the work I am need to do on the farm. So I gave the kids notice to be looking for a sitter. I still would like them one or two days a week. But my husband has got to have my help with the work. Too much stuff is not getting done. Hay time is fast approaching, my garden is way behind, and I also have my extra contract work coming up. I think both have it worked out. My son got a promotion, with a change in hours. That would have left me with babies from 8a.m. till at least 11p.m. Both are under 2 years old. It would just not work. At the moment my mornings are free. I get babies at 1:30p.m. The 5 month olds mom gets here around 4-5, then the 19 month old is here till 11 or later. I am sure the new arrangement will be hardest on me. I am going to miss them terribly.

My bees are doing well. We will be getting a new hive in the next couple weeks. We prebought it in Jan. Lots of bee keepers lost hives this last season. Even seasoned bee keepers lost a greater number than usual.

The hummingbirds showed up yesterday - woo hoo!! It's really spring  Time to put out more feeders!

I understand the difficulty in giving up grandbaby time to get things done, Digger. I didn't mind having the boys every day I was off work when daughter went back to school (they were about the ages your little ones are now), but that was for a limited time period - though it did take a bit of time to convince daughter of that last part!

Prudentwatcher, you stay safe on your trip - check in when you can! (Off to flick all my Bics to see if they work!)

Ivan - the miracles of modern technology - gps for moose sheds! I'll have to suggest that to my cousin for morel hunting lol! You are putting your equipment to bed for the summer at the same time that Hubby has been busy getting my tiller, the mowers, etc... ready for spring here at home - though, of course, I have to start aggravating him half to death in February in order to get him out to the shop to take everything out of mothballs and make sure they ready to roar when I am ready to use it! He's also spending time grumping about the folks who have been bringing in bikes (motorcycles), etc... to the shop, complaining that they won't run - when they just left them sit with rotten gas, dirty oil, etc... in them all winter. I remind him that it's $$ in his pocket, but he still thinks people should be more careful of their equipment and prep them for sitting over winter.

I've been doing better than I thought I would with my enforced inactivity - a walk to the compost pile yesterday to dump the compost pot I keep on the kitchen counter was enough to let me know that I need to stay off uneven surfaces like the yard. I settled for grabbing up the bag containers I'd saved to plant seeds in, and sitting on the porch filling them and planting a variety of stuff. Still no report on my MRI results, so I'm planning to return to work tomorrow - light duty, which means I'll still have to do my patient assessments and pass my meds, but will otherwise be relegated to the nurse's station to answer phones in between while the other staff does the steppin-fetchit running.

Here in a bit - once my coffee and ibuprofen kick in! - I'm going to run down to the nearby Menards to pick up 25 bags of mulch; they will load it for me, then I'll have to rent a neighbor kid to unload it after they get out of school later today or leave it for Hubby when he gets home from work. I have enough on hand - and laid out where it is to be used - to keep me busy this afternoon. I'll need to weed the beds before I can put the mulch down, but most of them aren't too bad. I still need to figure out where Hubby put my garden drill and auger so that I can plant the flowers I picked up the other day - shovel is a no-go.

Well, I reckon I'd better get up and get moving - take care all; have a safe and happy weekend!
