I ordered different herbs from an online seller that I've had good experiences with over the last few years. Just couldn't resist. So this morning I got all them potted up.

And then the body stopped. I guess it's still in stress recovery mode. I am getting some laundry done today.

Because of our ongoing drought, and the fact that all my flowers are up and blooming, I drug out the water hose. I've got everything watered in good. Everything was looking very stressed. I left the hose unwound, since we have no rain anywhere in our forecast. I'll have to water again in a couple of days.

Home fellowship was very good, today.

I watched church service on U-Tube this morning. It is extremely windy here and I've been coughing and sneezing with allergies without going out and don't want it getting worse. Wind is steady at around 30 mph but gusting much higher and just lately gusting more often. Temp is 74º/feels like 67º. It rained off and on most of yesterday so it's too wet to work outside even if it wasn't blowing like crazy.

I did a load of colored clothes after my shower last night and folded and put them away this morning. I had a bunch of whites that I intended to do with the sheets yesterday but forgot so will need to do those separately in another couple of days. I typically do whites with sheets or towels so seldom do a dedicated white load.

It appears the rabbits have eaten most of my tulips again this year. There is one clump up against the front of the house that they've missed so far so maybe I'll have one clump bloom. The daffodils which are my favorites are up but it does not appear that they are going to bloom. I think I had two blooms last year in two big clumps and don't know what's wrong. They haven't really bloomed since I transplanted them from the backyard. The asparagus is us up, but the rabbits have been eating it. When my former neighbor had 40 feral cats roaming the area, we hardly saw a rabbit. Of the two I prefer the rabbits because they can be fenced out. The problem with the tulips is they are in a bed next to the sidewalk where snow is shoveled so the fence cannot be left up over winter. This year the guy clearing the sidewalk actually drove his Ranger with blade down the sidewalk and scraped the flower bed along the way so he would have destroyed any fence. The snow drifts deep enough to cover 18" rabbit fencing.

It has warmed up into the 60s and started raining.

I got in more planting and a short walk this morning, plus I baked a chicken and some meatloaf for the week, for reheating. Later, I'll make some potato salad and maybe a little rice for sides.

It's supposed to go into the 70s and 80s this week. Yikes! It's too early. I'm in the process of digging out my two-sided window fan and lighter clothing. I'm not going to put in my window a/c, yet, but I'll clean it this week.
The problem: we can still get snow! It won't stay long, but we're not past the frost-free dates, yet.

It's 85 outside right now, and not a cloud in the sky. It's a beautiful outdoor day.

I still have some late blooming azaleas and daffodils still in bloom. All my iris are in full bloom, plus all the roses and wood violets. Yard is really looking good. No fuss. Everything comes back every year. I just have to keep everything mulched and fertilized. Now, water, too.

I've already changed out my wardrobe for the summer. I plan to do Cary's tomorrow. Temperature wise, I think we're well on our way to Summer heat. There may be some 70+ degree days left, but mostly, it's up into the 80's and beyond from here.

just got back home from a visit with my mama and kiddos. They surprised me yesterday with an early birthday party. A 'Sweet 16' party for my 61st later this month. Lots of good food, my favorite cake, balloons, flowers, and of course a sash and tiara! It was a hoot! Got to spend some good time with my mom and sister. DH modified an overbed table for my mom to do puzzles on that she really liked.

The drive gets longer every time, though.

This week will be pretty busy - a couple dental appointments, a house to clean, an open house to run for nutrition classes, and regular work.

Any hints on how to get red food dye from (I think) hot tamales out of laminate/wood flooring?

Moldy, I'd start with a Magic Eraser. That is the least likely to damage the floor. If that doesn't work, go to the website for your specific laminate floor and see what the manufacturer says. I hesitate to recommend anything else because some of those surfaces can be damaged by certain liquids.

It's possible that you may have to replace the planks.

Meemur

Voice on the Prairie
Again, I would check with the factory recommendations: some laminate surfaces are harmed with excess water, and some soaps will take off the finish. That's why I'm suggesting Magic Eraser. It doesn't harm any of the laminates. Some of the earlier generations don't tolerate hard scrubbing well. I'm helped replace planks that were damaged by cleaning.

The new generations of laminates are much more robust.

I'm just cleaning the house, so I'm not replacing them. I will take lots of photos before and after. Thank you so much for the idea though. I plan to try soap and water first, then scrubbing before moving to anything else.
I think I might try some Murphy's Oil Soap, or even Orange essential oil...but try the latter on a tiny spot hidden by furniture or a rug first!

Anna... did you divide your daffodils when you transplanted them? They continue to make new offset bulbs, and can quickly get too crowded to bloom. The nice thing about daffodils is they are poisonous! Which means moles and voles won't eat the bulbs, and deer (and Verdamnt goats) don't eat the tops, either!

I'd suggest, if you have big clumps, to dig them up and break them up...no more than 2-3 bulbs (even if they are small) in a clump. Then buy a bag of bulb food (they need Potash, but not much nitrogen) and topdress after you replant them. You should get blooms next year.

We planted over a thousand bulbs here our first fall (I left behind probably 5,000 daffodils, hundreds of tulips and uncountable crocuses on our farm...the crocuses, including the large hybrids, self seeded everywhere! Our lawn was a patchwork quilt of purple, yellow and white in April!). The meaning were not impressed...but they did help get them all planted! The crocuses are now self-seeding, but I definitely need to fertilize the daffodils...they aren't multiplying like I'm used to.

The tulips, including some doubles, and a blend of gold, purple and almost black, pretty much disappeared. The damned goats love them! But they don't touch the daffodils!

Worked til noon then went to nursing home. Code to memory unit wasn't working. Asked a nearby nurse who told us that there are now sensors on the door. If a patient is within 10 feet of the door it cannot be opened. Once inside the issue was clear. A gentleman who has spent the last few months in a room just outside the unit is now inside the unit and very unhappy. He came into mom's room to tell DH we were all prisoners now. He did remember DHs name. Hubby has often spoken to him as we went by.

Eventually got to visit with mom. She wanted some fresh air. Fortunately the new guy had left the hall and we left the unit. As we rounded the nurses station we heard music. Church was happening in the dining room. We detoured there and enjoyed a nice church service with a pastor who delivered a great bible-based sermon. Songs and prayer and we again headed out.

We didn't last too long. It was warm but crazy windy. Enough to try to push the rig at times when we were driving in. Mom enjoyed the birds and got tickled when the wind wrapped her hair around her face. She has never had long hair before and she loves it. There are new plants outside by the benches. New plants, new decor and fresh paint inside. No odor. Freshly hatched baby chicks are in their aquarium brooder in the central area. They will move into the chicken coop in the memory unit outside area when old enough. The latest administrator continues cleaning things up. The activity director was on fb this week inviting people to come out and teach or lead new things. She got a lot of responses, including some from teenagers who were interested.

Going to bed early tonight to prepare for tomorrow. Will be back Thursday. Have a great week everyone.

Has anyone here canned water? I have been reading a lot of people are using their empty canning jars for water until they need them. Seemed like a good idea. How long and at what pressure do you can them at?
No, I just store potable water in bottles Fruit Juice comes in. If your water isn't filtered, and might have irin bacteria in it or potential bacterial contamination, I guess actual canning would make sense. I'd think a water bath for 5 minutes once at full boil, or pressure can at 5# pressure for 5 minutes would be adequate.

But if you've got safe water, and/or can run it through a water filter, simply fill clean (I rinse the fruit juice bottles with wine sanitizer before filling them)...you can sanitizer jars in the dishwasher)...just fill clean jars and put a used, sanitized lid on it.

It's BWB for 10 minutes. Boil for 5 minutes before canning. Don't add anything.

And yes, a lot of people have been switching to storing their empty jars filled with water instead of empty. And then when they need the jars, using the water in recipes or in the canner.

I store water in re-used plastic containers for washing and flushing. Drinking water, I want sealed and sanitized which is why I can it. If I'm pressure canning and have extra space in the canner, I'll stick in jars of water otherwise I water bath. The water in plastic could be boiled but who knows in a SHTF situation if there will be fuel for boiling. Also, storing in plastic doesn't encourage me to use it for drinking. Using empty canning jars and used canning lids is a smart no cost way to increase essential preps.

There is a lot of hysteria on buying this, that or something else immediately as preps. I'm so thankful I've been a prepper for so long that I can ignore all that and continue as I've been doing for years which is replace what I use. I try to keep a year's supply of OTC meds and supplements on hand at all times and had let that slip lately so I did buy enough last week to get back to a year for most things. I plan to do a thorough inventory before my next monthly shopping trip to be sure I've gotten to year on everything.

I set myself the goal of deep cleaning one room each week. Last week was my bedroom and I still haven't decided which room to do this week. I'm debating between guest room or laundry room. If it's nice enough to hang sheets outside, I may choose the guest room otherwise I'll go with the laundry room. I have too much stuff in both of those rooms so neither will be a fun project!!

We've had a lot of rain lately. There were several mines under the Des Moines area, and they weren't filled in, just closed. Sometimes sinkholes appear. This one is in Urbandale (NW of downtown Des Moines).

That's another reason it's really important to do research about anywhere you want to live.

Rain and more rain. For the next couple days too I think but the temperatures are really good it was 81 yesterday can you believe that? In South Michigan.
My tulips and daffodils are up haven't blown yet but have the bulbs showing.
My daughter is here staying in my little cabin. She has two dogs and two cats with her and living in her van right now.??? We're going to see if we can help her fix the van up however she needs it. She is plenty welcome to stay in the cabin as long as she needs to.
Her son moved out went to live with his dad cuz it's closer to his school he's 18 and he will graduate soon. So it's just her and that apartment nearly $800 a month plus utilities. I understand but geez.

While I only have ceramic tile in the living area, it is recommended that I only use vinegar and water to clean with. I have real hardwood floors in the rest of the house, and I still use vinegar and water to clean. Haven't had any major stains, though. Would an organic stain remover work on laminate stains?

I just finished cleaning and scrubbing the bathroom. Tub, sink, ceramic wall tiles and floor. I still need to change out Cary's wardrobe for the summer and a load of laundry to do. It's dress/casual clothes, so they will go in the dryer, or hang on clothes hangers to dry.

82 for our high, today. "Burn ban" is still in place with "red flag" warnings. I'll need to water again, tomorrow.

Working on my shopping lists for, Wednesday, too.

We're just plugging along.
It rained cats and dogs all night with off and on rain yesterday. Again today but that is just fine with us. We spend normally 3 months or more in the summer with no rain at all. At least the wind gusts are only supposed to be around 36 MPH the next 2 days. Wed. night back into the high 20's F.

All the old canning jars are cleaned and reboxed, well the last 100 are drying. That was some chore. Dh managed to get the the well house repainted this last Sat. It really needed it's been say 15 years. The holes patched on it from the wood peckers first and metal on bottom above the concrete foundation to keep the red diggers out of there. When things are dry again were going to put Ol' Henry's roofing sealer on the chicken coop one day this week, should last another 20 years. By that time dh would be 98 years old lol and we don't think we will need to worry about it.

One day this Summer, Cary plans to re-stain the western cedar siding on our house. Board and batten. We stained it in the beginning, because we didn't want it to turn that gray color as it aged. Once he re-stains it, it will be another 15 or so years, before it needs it again. I told him that it probably wouldn't matter at our age by then. It's always a big job to do the whole house. Finding the right color stain to match what is already on there might be a problem, since it's been a long time, since re-staining it the last time. About 15 years.

I need to stain my cedar fence, too. I probably won't happen before fall at this rate. I've got garden work and related tasks. I always hate to say no to money, but I'm glad now that I turned down the seasonal spring work. It doesn't pay that well and just wears me out right now. My priority is keeping up with my home and community garden plots, and one additional one on private land, about 1.8 miles away, so I can bike to that. I'll plant that one last: it's a new plot and the squash and loofa (if any gets going) will go there.

I'm fighting a cold(?)/allergies -- hard to say. It's in the 80s and humid today. This is just not typical spring weather.

Yeah I got to stain my cabin again it's been 7 years. It's not bad most spots of it. Also have to have some of my house roof recoated. I don't look forward to that. Last time we had a couple young Amish boys do it they did it in about 5 hours and charges $200. I'll have to see if I can find something close to that deal.

Cary uses a sprayer to stain our house. It goes a lot faster doing it that way. He still has to use a brush to do around the windows, but saves those for last. He also has to wash the windows, since some spray still gets on them. I forget what he uses on the windows to remove the stain. Our house really only needs re-staining on the north side, but to get it all to match, the whole house has to be done, especially, if we have to change the color of stain this time. " Honey" is the color stain we have on it right now.

Right now we're focusing on the garden and that huge pile of free firewood that needs to be split for next winter. Well and some cleanup of his "tent" that collapsed this past winter. We can't build a "shop" without a permit but he can put up a tent (anything with a tarp roof) so that's what he did till he's ready to build it. He's redoing it a little different as this year he wants to get a tractor instead of doing the building. That may change next week though lol, and they say women change their minds a lot.....

Took my young friend to her scans this morning. She has to have them every 6 months. She's having some swelling and pain in that leg again so we're kinda of concerned. Then stopped at a thrift store on the way home. Found a couple pair of capri pants for this weather that's not hot but not cold and a couple tops. I've gained some weight so while I try and take it back off I need something to wear. I was looking for some shorts but didn't see any I wanted. That little store has a loyalty program so my total was 10.80 but I paid 9.70. Not bad!

Then home for lunch, chicken chores, a garden walk through, and now I'm trying to clean this dirty kitchen up. That may take the rest of the day! I've also got some chicken thighs in the oven baking for supper and meals this week. Since we didn't eat much this past week and we had meals left from the week before when i got sick I gave all that to the chickens. Extra protein for them and it got the fridge cleaned out so I can see what's what. Just means more dishes to wash.

Funny part of the day is I left before dd or ds this morning. I got home thinking I was going to get the big truck and go get a load of mulch to put in the garden. I pulled in and parked and realized the big truck is not here. I immediately thought someone had stolen it somehow and was about to call dh when I realized dd's car was here. I texted her and sure enough she had it. she's picking up a tent for the Kindermourn duck race and it won't fit in her car. So the truck is not stolen thank goodness and tomorrow I'll go get my mulch!

Odd day today. I got to be a real nurse for a change because the ER was packed. I usually am a desk jockey now, so it was great. Reminds me of how much I loved being in the ER. It was busy even with my regular job - that is a good thing.

Change of plans today. I went outside to spread composed manure on the rhubarb and asparagus which is usually easy ... cut the bag open, dump in the middle of the bed then spread around. When I opened the bag, the contents were solid, so I had to break it apart in small chunks, work it with my hands to crumble it up before spreading. That ended up taking way too long leaning over the bag in the wagon and then spreading it after pulling out lots of creeping charlie. My back was hurting so bad I wasn't sure I'd be able to get back into the house, so nothing else accomplished today. I'm glad I did the dishes and wiped counters before I went out. In the laundry room I washed down the washer and dryer so got a start on that at least. Also, set up the folding table in the garage and dumped the seed potatoes on it. I need to cut them, but I'll wait until this week of rain finishes and it dries off before doing so. It's not good to have them set and dehydrate waiting to be planted.

Meemur, collapsing mines is an ongoing issue in Des Moines area with mines everywhere. It doesn't happen often, but often enough not to be surprising. When we lived south of Ankeny (now part of Ankeny!), there were mines under the property we lived on. We had two wells one of which was unfit for drinking as it was pumping from a flooded mine.

Spent much of Monday dealing with medical. Appointments almost every day this week and next. Spent a lot of time getting everything scheduled. One doctor's staff had me scheduled at his Kansas City office next week instead of here locally. I get so tired of people not listening to what you tell them. I wonder how some of these people find their way to work in the morning.

Scheduled for hand surgery Tuesday of next week. Will be losing the stub I had left of my right index finger from the previous amputation and will also lose all of my right middle finger. Both are from the blood clots caused by the heart catheter procedure almost a year and a half ago. The first amputation didn't heal properly. I have a half inch of bone sticking out the end of the stub of the finger. The middle finger made some progress then got worse and can't be saved.

I have a cardiologist appointment today (Tuesday). Getting clearance for anesthesia for both hand surgery and for endoscope & colonoscopy procedures.

Thankfully the tornadic storm that was headed for us a few hours ago weakened about 15 miles before it got here. More chance3s of severe weather Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Bringing the Walmart stuff over from last week ..
This self check stuff plucks my nerves..

@- Wildwood ..
It does not surprise..that they would try that where you are because you have basically no choice...most places anymore are only about profit... no real concern for the customer

At the Walmart pharmacy I had picked up a couple of boxes over the counter..allergy pills..we have to sign for them..here and show that picture id...that democrats insist is so difficult to get...the state limit on the controlled over the pills..limit 96... I asked for two boxes of 48....we don't have that only the 24 size...so I said give me 2... DEI hire for sure...she rang the same box twice...put them in the bag and stapled it..I never had them I'm my hands..
After I got home opened it..there was one 48 and one 24..
Of course my ticket was wrong..she rang the 48 twice
So next trip brought it back to customer..we can't give you a refund because this item is not refundable..I didn't want to return it...just to have the over charge refunded...
I was told can't give you your money back..she got the customer service manager..I can't refund this.. It's not returnable...I keep telling them I don't want to return it..it is your mistake not mine you ..you can not have the money you over charged me...after about 20 minutes of this I was getting angry...one of them wanted me to make the pharmacy fix it...
They finally got the store manager...who gave me a gift card for the money they had over charged me..
It took them over 30 minutes to deal with this.

The way things are going here...our governor would most likely ad a surcharge to having someone check you out..
They wanted to add a tax surcharge to nearly everything this year..I mean everything...all service items..just missed passing this..dog grooming, repairs of every kind, all deliveries..think UPS FedEx, food delivery, Amazon..dog grooming ...they wanted to run her for president..

I told DH if Walmart ever stopped having cashiers..totally
I would fill a cart with ice cream and park it in automotive and walk out..
I remember when we had our gas pumped and oil checked and windshield washed....full service...

@feralferret
So sorry for all that has happened to you
We have a friend who had bypass surgery....and during the surgery..had a massive stroke..he has recovered a great deal from the stroke but it has really effected his sight...it is so bad that even with glasses they can not correct it enough that he can drive...from the way he describes it I imagine he is legally blind...

Good morning everyone it is actually warm enough to sit on the porch and have my coffee. We had bad storms last night but they didn't last long. It is strange to go from running to cold stove and a week later I have the fan going.

I do enjoy reading everybody's post and what everybody's up to even the bad stuff.
Even if I don't comment a lot or on each person's stuff I am definitely reading it and remembering who's who.

Sheree I am definitely going the sprayer route because the cabin is only 10x20. Sprayers are 10 bucks at Dollar general. I think I could just cover the windows because there's only three and they're small I could just cover them with newspaper. But if you could find out from carry what he uses to clean the windows that would be a lot of help.
When Scott was here we had too many doctor's appointments all the time it was just constant constant constant even when he was doing well and some of them I just said we don't need a well check for that. But you do have to go when it's something important. It's just like when you get out of the hospital and they give you all your paperwork and they have 10 appointments all set up for you in the next week and they're all for you touch base.
My little grandson and I he's 12 now he loves being outside and gardening. So we planted some potatoes over at his house and he planted some flowers and pots. Then over here he helped me put in some brussel sprouts and lettuce, and then I got some beets planted.
That's about all I've got done right now plus just the normal cleaning. And I have so much I could be doing but right now I'm enjoying my coffee.
Chiropractor is helping I have a few more appointments than I have to decide if I want to continue with it.
