WEATHER Weather 2026 (April 5-11)

North to the Future
I know it’s only Easter and my long driveway looks positively glacial-but in my AO, I do believe we’ve broken Winter’s back. Been getting close to 30 in the mid-afternoon for a few days running, with crystal clear skies and (at last) a break from the endless windstorms. We’ll likely see snow again but yesterday many folks-including me-were out without coat or hat. Lovely break after the long, cold dark!

My first look at the week, 7-day precip totals.

If it were Jun-Jul, I'd be giving that little blob in the Gulf some scrutiny.

It's not really a low pressure system, more of a front passing thru.

The weather service is posting for my location freeze warnings for the next three nights.
Our final frost date is May 15, so much for global warming.

Ryan Hall is already starting to call for spicy weather next week.

Maybe starting Sunday-Monday.

These probabilities will likely increase.

We are down to 23F this morning and we hit dewpoint so we have a really nice frost. See what this does to the grass that I mowed a few days ago.

Yeah...we broke the old record by 4 degrees...it was 17° at 6 this morning. There's still a couple inches of snow covering everything. It's supposed to start warming up from here...

It was freezing last night in SW lower MI. The low was 28.

By Sunday, we will be flirting with 80.

By next Wednesday we will be back down in the 50s. Rivers are flooding their banks.

The weather is weird even for Michigan.

Reed Timmer:

MULTI-DAY SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK AHEAD, including #tornado threats, starting tomorrow in northeastern Kansas!

This map then shows the severe weather risk areas during Friday-Tuesday from west-to-east as a trough very gradually ejects from the Mountain West. I believe this wave will maximize Monday-Wednesday across the southern Plains to the Midwest/Corn Belt region.

The long-range models depict a potentially historic period for severe weather this April

Max Velocity:

Severe weather will develop this afternoon and evening across the southern High Plains, with the most organized activity expected over west Texas, where a SLIGHT RISK is in place. A strengthening upper-level jet and increasing moisture will support scattered thunderstorms that quickly become severe, with large hail and damaging winds as the primary threats. Storm mode may initially favor discrete cells before evolving into clusters or short lines later in the evening.

Areas at greatest risk include Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, and surrounding communities along and south of the I-20 corridor. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out, especially with any storm that can remain isolated during the early stages of development. Storms will likely persist into the evening hours before gradually weakening overnight, so remain weather aware through tonight.
