I dont see it that way at all. For some it is called survival. IF you are lucky enough to have good credit you dont need to worry about it. It has nothing to do with preaching to people to save money and pay cash...... (im not trying to insult you) but you are still living in the past..... especially with thing like inflation coming up. Someone earlier mentioned 'why these people' would do that with all the problems in the world.....to me that is a great reason but truthfully I believe 'these people' just dont know what is going on.....

For the record....I will put a rifle on layaway.....I could pay cash....but I like paying 100 bucks every now and again and once I get enough.... bang..... new rifle! I didnt feel put out at all.

I'm not going to argue the point. I may be living in the past, but living debt free is a great way to live.

My mom did that too. It was always an exciting day when us kids heard the words “layaway” lol... we knew what it meant :)

It's a part of the Christmas song from Da Yoopers, "Rusty Chevrolet."

"I got to get to Shopko / to pick up da layaway / cause Santa Claus is comin' soon / in his big ole rusty sleigh."

Da Yoopers, Rusty Chevolet (with lyrics) 2:42

Which is why I like an occasional lay-away. Still debt free. If life goes so badly sideways that I can't make the agreed upon payment, I can notify the store, and they put the object up for sale again. I'd be out the money I put down, but it is a calculated no interest risk.

They didn’t have layaway last year either. Being so short staffed there isn’t anyone to run it even if they wanted to. All ordering comes from the home office now and not at store level so that alone would be a nightmare.

I've used lay-aways in the past. I'd rather use lay-away rather than putting items on a credit card with high interest. I guess I'm just used to saving and budgeting when it comes to things I need or like to have.

That was then, this is now. There are multiple ways for people to rebuild credit today.

It is now. Storage space is essentially non-existent. We have Walmart employees who are members here. Post a thread and ASK THEM.

I believe they’re shipped back to the big warehouses. Layaway requires LOCAL storage. Do you not understand that?

Again, that was then, this is now.
That would be like way to bad because it was a better way.

2nd have seen numerous pictures at local walmart where they use containers to store their non-seasonal items. This is now. Have them at my local walmart. Even discussed them on this board.

And I do understand a lot of things all the time.

So Walmarts nationwide are to be pawn shops? Is that what you're trying to defend? Because THOSE DAYS ARE GONE.

There’s literally nothing I NEED and both girls are grown and can buy their own. But if I was a young single Mom again, or even a young couple, I would use layaway. Could I use a CC? Sure and end up paying however much more with interest.

I always felt like I raised my oldest DD poor. She tells me all the time Mom I had the best childhood and never felt poor. Part of that was NO electronics! It was Barbies and My Little Ponies! Outdoor toys like bikes or skateboards. Usually purchased on layaway.
