GUNS/RLTD Virginia Democrats Reportedly Beginning Effort To Confiscate Lawfully Owned Firearms

A sweeping ban on many popular guns has been proposed in Virginia, which in November handed total control of the state’s legislature to Democrats.

Senate Bill 16, which was introduced by Sen. Richard Saslaw, seeks to expand the state’s definition of so-called “assault weapons.” Violation of the law’s provisions would be a Class 6 felony, which in Virginia is punishable by up to five years in prison.

In its analysis of the legislation, the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action waved a red flag.

“The restrictions included in the proposed legislation does not grandfather current owners. The legislation is clearly designed to be firearms confiscation, as current owners would be forced to dispossess themselves of their property or face a felony conviction,” the NRA-ILA wrote.

Much of the legislation is devoted to a discussion of the characteristics of what would be called, in Virginia, an assault weapon. In reducing that to plain-speak, the NRA-ILA said that “SB 16 would outlaw America’s most popular rifle, the AR-15, along with countless other rifles, pistols, and shotguns that Virginians use for hunting, target shooting, and self-defense.”

“A knowledgeable firearms owner will take a look at the ridiculous definition and realize that such ham-handed legislation must be born out of petty vindictiveness or a complete ignorance of firearm technology, as there is no logical public safety rationale,” the NRA-ILA said, noting specific weapons that would be banned.

Handgun users could also become instant lawbreakers, the NRA-ILA warned, citing the bill’s provision that bans magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

“Many handguns commonly-owned by law-abiding citizens for concealed carry come standard with magazines that would be banned. Otherwise law-abiding gun owners who violate the magazine provision could be found guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. A Class 1 misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in jail,” the NRA-ILA wrote.

As the state pushes to grab guns, many citizens are pushing back to keep them.
Virginia Citizens Defense League President Philip Van Cleave recently told the Washington Free Beacon that 20 Virginia counties have declared themselves Second Amendment sanctuary counties.

“I’ve never seen anything like this, and I’ve been doing this for over 20 years,” he said. “It’s a sleeping giant that had been pretty much not paying attention to politics, and now they’re awake, and now they’re flooding these sanctuary county hearings. Flooding them.”

“It’s sending a huge message to the General Assembly that a lot of the state does not want more gun control, certainly none of the crap that they’re pushing that does nothing but affect law abiding citizens,” he said. “It doesn’t do anything for criminals.”

The legislative attack against gun rights was among the items cited by Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam in November when Democrats swept into total control of Virginia’s legislature, according to The Washington Post.

At the time, he said the state would push for gun control laws calling for universal background checks, banning the sale of so-called “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines, restoring the law that limits purchases to one gun a month, and imposing a red flag law to remove guns from those a court deems at risk.

“We will at least start with those,” he said.

Asked if he would take so-called “assault weapons” from their owners, Northam said, “That’s something I’m working [on] with our secretary of public safety. I’ll work with the gun violence activists, and we’ll work [on] that. I don’t have a definitive plan today.”

We will see what kind of defense the NRA mounts to this action in their own backyard.

If they don't make an effective counter effort, the NRA will continue to decline in the minds of most Americans.

So, does the bugaloo begin in Virginia? Hard to envision those mountain boys sitting on their hands while confiscation takes place.

I don't envision legal action is going to have any real effect upon or impress the lefties that have overrun the political halls of Virginia.

I had 6 Virginians visiting me over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Four were adults.

Virginians are down to the last box.

This is what will happen when the President changes from Republican to Democrat. It will be all over. Virginia will be the one of the first to go down the path if not the first.

People, listen and learn. This is what we are going to see coming in a few years. Not just a state here or there, but in all states as a Federal mandate!

If they pass these laws I guess the people of Virginia need to do a petition for referendum on these things to put them on the ballot for the people to vote on and they need to demand it be separate from everything else so someone voting say all democrat ticket will have no effect on it. They will also need to put constitutional carry on the ballot.
This ^^^ is how the will of the people is done when the political system is obviously dead set against the people and country.

It won't be allowed. If it is allowed, then it will be ignored. If they can't ignore it, they will change something small and claim they fixed it.

I AM NOT ADVOCATING VIOLENCE OF ANY KIND AGAINST ANYONE.

Sadly, I believe your prediction(s) are spot on !!!

Anyone that still votes Commiecrat has got to get their head out of their a$$, and NEVER vote for another Commiecrat !!!

It is crucial to vote ALL commiecrats out of office !! It is also crucial for Republicans to purge their ranks of ALL Rino's !!! The future of our nations freedom depends on such !!!!

Then it's taken to court and when that fails it's time for the people to use force and remove these people from office including the judges and attorneys.

Was at my county's meeting last night. We had about 550 people there. The meeting room was not large enough.
Many people were in the hall and outside in the cold. We had 53 speakers in favor and 1 opposed. We became a second amendment sanctuary county by a vote of the board of supervisors.

As of yesterday, we now have 41 second amendment sanctuary counties. Many more counties will be having votes in the days ahead. Several will vote today.

The counties of James Madison ( the Bill of Rights), Patrick Henry ( give me liberty or give death,) and the Culpeper Minute Men (who marched to Williamsburg in support of Patrick Henry) are all now second amendment sanctuary counties.

We are slowly surrounding the blue areas of the state which are few.

This mostly a grassroots effort by a small state wide gun group, The Virginia Citizens League and the true Patriots in Virginia.
We are people who refuse to bow to unconstitutional acts. If you want to help, subscribe to the VCDL newsletter.
In defense of the NRA, they did a lot during the November election to turn out the vote for pro gun people who were running.

After the election VCDL a small nimble organization, hit ground running, and with help of local lawyers came up with the second amendment sanctuary counties. We started this on November 18th and already we have the 41. There are many gun rights organizations. People please support all of them. They each help in their own way.

Please support Virginia it could be your state next. Bloomburg and anti gun carpet baggers dumped money into this election like there was no tommorow.

It is not a case of "could" but rather it will happen in your state sooner or later. In Georgia, we almost got there last election. If she had won, things would have been done without the legislator approval.

You can bet the good ole boys here are not going to take this lying down.

They will fight and drink beer afterwards. Calling it a normal weekend for them. :Lol...

We watched your election and prayed for GA. You are correct they will try to take all the guns, in every state. I was being nice trying to wake people up. Each state needs to have their own VCDL.... Yours would be GCDL.... You get the picture. It reminds me of that old flag, join or die. Anyone contacting VCDL would get help setting up one in their state.

People seem to be taking our second amendment sanctuary resolution with a bit of amusement... In this state we have sheriffs who have extreme constitutional powers. In the 41 counties which have adopted sanctuary status, the unconstitutional laws will not be enforced. The sheriff's departments will stand with the people.

It very doubtful that the state police will help the governor and his evil associats.
The national guard in this state would be made of mostly kids from the same red counties, that would interesting because of the oath law enforcement and national guard take.

Few in the cities would volunteer to come to the red part of the state and take weapons.
Very few of the illegals would stand and fight, here mostly Mexicans and they would run back to Mexico.

This will turn into a court battle as such the federal government will mostly likely have to help defend as the states have no legal standing to over turn the US Constitution. This is when the NRA and GOA will step in help with court battles.

Already the red county people are boycotting, businesses in the blue areas of the state. Camo is quickly becoming the fashion statement here. There is a movement to wear camo and orange and invade the capital with car after car on January the 8th, the date of the swearing in of the newly elected, nothing illegal, just making a traffic nightmare on their day.

Virginia is my State, despite my current residence in WV. All my family, as well as my wife's family, lives in the Commonwealth and our dead are buried there.

This won't end the way that Richmond thinks it will. The Highlands have had enough of Richmond and NorVa dictating to the rest of us how to live.

We have 95 counties and 39 independent cities which count the same as counties.
We have about 72 pending meetings.
Some counties and cities in the liberal areas will decline .. the city of Roanoke did. These are the blue areas.
Most of the pending are red areas. This takes a bit of time as each county or city has different dates for their board meetings.
Hope that helps.

Interesting about 1/3 of the speakers were women.

I made a mistake in my original post we had 750 there not 550.

Well there are only two outcomes that I can think of. Live with it or the SHTF big time. I seriously doubt they will get any relief from the courts including SCOTUS. SCOTUS has shown a serious aversion to 2nd Amendment cases in the past.

At this point, the people living in Virginia have only two options in my opinion. The first is they can back off, bend over, and accept this act of TREASON by their duly elected officials. The second option is they can declare a mass demonstration, with all people attending being armed and fully combat ready. They then go to the Virginia State Capital, and arrest all of those politicians who voted for this bill as TRAITORS. Obviously, this has the potential to explode into violence, and could indeed be the trigger event for Civil War Two. After all, AlfaMan there is NO GIVE in a position where the elected officials essentially destroy the Second Amendment, and those people who fully support it. I would also remind you that here in the Gun Grabber State of Oregon, after the Republicans fled the state to refuse a quorum for the Carbon bill, it was the deployment of the Armed Militia in Oregon as in ARMED PATRIOTS going to Salem, and making it clear they wouldn't accept this BS.

Finally, Civil War Two has been inevitable for years now. It is brutally simple now. You will either give up your guns, or you will not. If you do not, then the MARXIST SCUM politicians in Virginia may very well send "somebody" to take your guns, and kill you if you resist.

I think 2020 may very well see each of us in a situation where we will either be killed defending our Second Amendment Rights, not privileges, or killing those, even under the color of law trying to take our weapons and kill us. And yes indeed it was the British Army trying to seize the "personal arms of the people, and arms of the state militia," that started the American Revolution back in 1775.

And here we are again.
