A gruesome discovery in a Hollywood impound lot sparked a monthslong investigation that led to murder and sex abuse charges against a 21-year-old singer.
After decomposing, dismembered remains were found in an abandoned Tesla, investigators quickly linked the car to its registered owner -- identified by authorities as David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, who has nearly 4 million followers on TikTok.
Several days later, officials identified the victim whose remains were found in the vehicle -- 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, of Lake Elsinore in Riverside County.
Determining how the teen died took time, and after months of additional investigation, prosecutors announced charges against D4vd that allege her murder was a premeditated attempt to keep her from ruining his music career by exposing their underage relationship.
D4vd's lawyers and family have maintained his innocence.

Prosecutors say this is likely the date of her death, when her cellular activity ceased.

D4vd's parents also say they "support and stand by him one hundred percent."

You're right, but... it's most likely a fairly new car, and not cheap. These are likely not people "in need".
I see this all the time at the grocery. They're buying steak, if it's not tons of processed junk food, rather than raw ingredients to cook. And I've seen plenty of times they bought lobster and crab. Follow them into the parking lot and their vehicles are bigger, newer and nicer than mine.
I understand. But including a make/vehicle that lists @$40k in with Lamborghinis and Maseratis is silly, and just padding the numbers.
Also, stuff happens. You can suddenly become seriously ill or disabled, and while your life looks the same from the outside, suddenly, your big fancy house (heavily mortgaged) and your 4 year old Tesla (with a year left on the loan) are just more expenses and monthly payments that you have no way to make.
In NY state, if you have NO earned income, you qualify for SNAP as long as you are bringing in less than 130% of the Federal Poverty Level. If you have some income, you qualify as long as total household income is below 150% of FPL. And if you are elderly or totally disabled, you qualify if under 200% FPL.
For a family of 2 people, the numbers are:
1. Under $27,500 annually
2. Under $31,700 annually
3. Under $42,300 annually
You can own your home and ONE car, and still qualify. 11 states also have a "liquid asset" limit...you can't have more than $3k in the bank and qualify. The rest don't count assets, except in the case of elderly/disabled...because they apparently come under Federal rules.
While I obviously agree that if you own a car worth 6 figures, and you've lost your job and are having trouble paying for food, you SELL THE CAR and either buy something much cheaper, or use public transport until you get back on your feet! I think anyone driving anything *except* Teslas on that list should only be given emergency, *temporary* help...say, 2-3 month limit on SNAP benefits. Because it's highly likely they are scamming.

I guess I'm quite old-fashioned. Even making six-figures a year, I never splurged on the luxury of a brand-new vehicle, always opting for late model used. Let someone else eat the depreciation, work out the bugs and sort out the lemons. I'd rather have food on the table, water and electricity.
I have yet to exceed $10K for a vehicle, including several sports cars and vans.
