Panama City police ID victim, reveal motive in July 11 fatal shooting
Story by Dylan Gentile, Panama City News Herald• 4d
PANAMA CITY— The Panama City Police Department has revealed more details on the July 11 fatal shooting in Panama City.
At a July 13 news conference, Panama City Police Chief Mark Smith met with reporters to answer questions regarding the shooting that took place at the 3700 block of W 21st St.
He identified the victim as Lucas Daughtry, 23, from the Thomasville, Georgia area. PCPD said Preston Marquise Roulhac, 31, shot and killed Daughtry after unlawfully entering the home of his ex-girlfriend because he was angry that she had a new boyfriend.
Police say Roulhac then shot at his ex-girlfriend as she fled.
"(Officers) had responded there when a person that lives at the residence contacted the police department and stated what had taken place inside the house," Smith said. "There was a witness there at the residence that knew the suspect and was able to provide us with his name, vehicle information, residence information, things like that."
Smith said the weapon used was an AK-47 and that the call came in about 4 a.m.
As Roulhac was fleeing police on State Road 390 near Lynn Haven, he failed to negotiate the curve in the road and ended up crashing near Alaska Circle, according to PCPD. His car had flipped into a ditch, and he fled on foot into a heavily wooded and swampy area, police said.
Roulhac was captured on nearby Thurso Road, Smith said. The initial traffic stop that led to the chase was about 6:30 a.m. and he was captured about 8 a.m.
Smith said police intend to file more charges against Roulhac.
According to the Bay County Jail listing, Roulhac faces charges of fleeing and eluding police with disregard to public safety, homicide murder while engaged in burglary, and homicide specific felony committing an act that could cause death, as of July 13.
The GoFundMe for Daughtry's family raised $1,375 of its $11,000 goal as of 4:21 p.m. on July 13.

"Lucas was a beloved son, brother and friend, and his sudden absence has left an unimaginable void in all of our hearts," the fundraiser reads. "We are entirely unprepared for the emotional and financial toll of this sudden tragedy."
