Prep Genrl utube videos on prepping

I've been watching utube videos on prepping for a good while. Now I'm getting sick of them, being a seasoned prepper, I've heard it all before. I'm deleting several of them. I'm no longer watching videos that are mostly watching someone chop wood or building more raised beds. And the what I stocked up on this week, there is noting new that i don't already have a bunch of. The ones that are melodramatic about what is coming. These kind of videos are for people that don't have a clue, newbies I guess. And even the ones on the GSM, I've quit watching them too. And besides we have our own thread that has all the information needed.

Maybe I'm getting burned out, I've done the things and have what I have. Even a trip to walmart last week I was not tempted to buy even replace things, because I have plenty. Like SB said, if I've already got 50+ cans of something I don't even want to buy anymore for the time being. I've been giving away most of what I get in commodities because I probably have two years worth or longer. I'm helping my pastor build his pantry and we share things with others too.

There are some that do offer advice on how to do this or that, that are still helpful.

I'm living my life and enjoying the simple things. Dh and I have a couple of cups of coffee together in the mornings, that's nice.

Because of our limited bandwidth, I can't watch long videos, anyway. I find all the info I need about prepping right here on TB. In the past, I have watched a few videos long enough to get the basics of what it's about. Most of them are only telling or showing me things I already know. I can see where they are great for those who are just starting out, though.

As a result of amateur Me-tubers infinitely talking about themselves instead of the subject at hand, PLUS having a former group leader who thought meetings full of YouTube videos were a good thing PLUS having a SIL who sends me gobs of echo chamber bitch-ute videos, we became You-tubed out a few years back. I just don't do much video watching anymore unless researching something like I did last week finding a discussion of a serpentine drive belt installation on my truck (which, come to find out after a couple of hours, the guy was full of shit as it turned out). I can read faster than someone can yack.

The same thing goes for Patreon as well. I've pretty much had my fill of watching someone drink coffee and rambling on about their dogs' latest adventure instead of getting to the point, and have shut down most of that so-called "content" as a result.

There are some good ones out there, though. The series of videos which LDSprepper did a few years ago on rain catchment is still a classic IMHO.

I feel the same way about patreon. I cancel one and then cave and resubscribe. There is one that I just can't stand anymore and if you get impatient with his cigar smoking and rambling he tells you to unsubscribe. And really with the man there really isn't much new, but people love him. The one I just can't quite cut loose from does have some good insight to what is going on in the world, but so many of his videos are music videos and we do not have the same taste in music, that part is a generational thing.

One utuber that is definitely worth watching most of the videos is Rain Country, she is an expert on many things about self sufficiency. There are others, but I'm deleting a lot of them that I've subscribed to.

I'm trying to read more but I'm having a hard time getting comfortable and having good light at the same time.

sounds like you need a project - hard to believe you have all aspects of prepping covered in detail >>> always new things to learn - example - even if you currently aren't able to take on a chicken herd - doesn't mean you can't learn all about it ....

in regard to the UTubes - you just watching them streaming or have you downloaded the better ones and cataloged the info on your database? >>> don't need to tell you how much has been deleted in just the last few months ....

For those of us who made prepping a lifestyle years ago, no Utubes are needed anymore. It's all the same stuff. We are as self-sufficient as we're going to be. Did it all by reading more books than watching videos. I still have all of those books. Hard copies.

Yes same here Judy. Just a lot of stuff I already know.
I've been cleaning up two of the three rooms on the other side of the house. Making it ready for daughter and family fix how they want. I'm going to put all my stuff in my cabin, which will motivate me to finish the walls.
Always something to clean out, clean up, etc. But it looks good

I have several projects going. And I do have many aspects of prepping covered, particularly food, those were the ones I was mostly referring to. I watch them, they almost always lately have nothing I don't already have.

As for downloading the good ones, well, I would love to but I just can't seem to get them to down load, might be my windows 7.

I do enjoy the "pantry porn" -- you know, the ones that show their shelves all filled up with their preps.

But as far as the other stuff, not so much. This is my second go-round on "prepping." In the 70s I moved to a country property in Arkansas right down the road from my grandma, raised a garden, canned, made my own bread and yogurt, milked goats, raised rabbits and chickens, chopped wood, the whole nine yards. This included the Carter years, so I remember when gas went over $1 a gallon and the gas pumps would not go that high, and they set the price at 50+ cents and had signs saying you would pay double what the pump said. The Carter years sucked -- inflation, unemployment -- but we got through it okay. Guess we made the right move at the right time, but my husband at the time became more and more unreliable, so it all came to a stumbling end. But, all in all, I gained a lot of knowledge and eventually a divorce.
