This just doesn't smell right.

Deyo is a....ummm, weak source.

Never heard of the one you quoted either.

Some more confirmation would be great. If you can find something, post the content too.

Yeah. About the closest analogy would be those "training deployments" to Ukraine the US was doing.

But if I don’t see it from a DoD source or something more mainstream I'd break out the salt shaker.

Why in gods name do we need to tangle with China in India. India has a huge military they can handle their own borders.

Common sense is far from common, particularly in those with roles in decision making. Royally bad idea.

Royal Navy warship HMS Kent joins American destroyers USS Donald Cook and USS Porter in the Arctic for cold-weather training,The Royal Navy has joined the US Navy to do some cold water training in the Arctic - where the sea temperature is approximately four Celsius. The Air Force is building the B-21 bomber, though it uses imprecise language to state its required numbers (“at least” 100 B-21s). It also has not revealed its production rate, range or its payload capability, which may be less than workhorses like the B-2, B-1 and B-52. Air Force leaders have indicated that budget constraints will compel retirement of the B-2 fleet, which remains highly capable, as soon as the B-21s start entering service. HMAS Parramatta or FFG 154 began sailing with Ticonderoga-class guided missile-cruiser USS Bunker Hill or CG 52 then rendezvoused with amphibious assault ship USS America or LHA 6 and Arleigh-Burke class guided missile destroyer USS Barry or DDG 52 April 18. Their combined operations started with force integration training and maneuvering exercises between Parramatta and Bunker Hill. Operations with USS America started with a precision maneuvers that included Barry in the South China Sea. U.S. 7th Fleet conducts forward-deployed naval operations in support of U.S. national interests in the Indo-Pacific area of operations. As the U.S. Navy’s largest numbered fleet, 7th Fleet interacts with 35 other maritime nations to build partnerships that foster maritime security, promote stability, and prevent conflict. Of course, China is "shocked" I think they overestimated their own situation and vastly overestimated the effects that the pandemic and protests were having in the US.

Yes the US is affected, but not to the point it can't respond, this is not the Scottish troops preparing to invade an England that "God Hath Destroyed" with the Black Death only to come down with themselves the night before their planned invasion or something.

Oh, and I am pretty sure there are some defense agreements between the US and India but I'm not sure about that, most of the time those sorts of agreements are just nice pieces of paper until suddenly things get real.

Military types may know if there is such a treaty or agreement between the US and India or not.

IF one is unaware of how the Great Game is played, things can look VERY strange until there is more information about them.
Suffice it to say that The Great Game IS afoot and DJT appears to have a slightly more solid grasp of the rules of The Game.
Understand that very little is as it appears from the outside of The Game.

Think 2 Iladro Samurai who may shift feet and hands for minutes staring at each other until one or the other perceives a shift in the balance of the other and strikes.
WE may not see the wrong foot placement but the opponent does.

I posted this on the big India border thread too: Kalika came across a video from a local news station in Ladakh a couple of days ago that purportedly showed some US troops *already there*. In the video they were shown trying to conceal their faces and shoo away the cameras, and we have subsequently been unable to locate the video again. My guess is that we are sending some troops there, in the same capacity that we initially did in Viet Nam, as "advisers". The guys trying to hide themselves from the cameras were, IMHO, likely Green Berets, and are there early to embed inside Indian military units.

Thanks, Mountain, I knew you would likely have something on this via Kalika.

Just what we need, Vietnam Do-Over this time at the Roof of the World instead of the Depths of the Jungle...just think of the Hollywood blockbuster stories people can tell around their radioactive campfires while sitting among the ruins...

Who in their right mind would position their foreign troops to fight in the Himalayas?
Last I checked India is a big country. Moving troops could mean anything. 2 clerk typist types or logistic types doing some sort of shared knowledge thing to couple thousand anywhere. There is possibly already some spec op types somewhere doing something.

The moving troops to India would potentially be a punishment move to China by India, ok you steal our land than you CCP have pushed India closer to US (the play stupid games country style), also now if China was thinking of pushing to steal more land from India now the risk side of the equation certainly changes.

China is a bully and they have been risking stumbling into war because they think no neighboring country is willing to stand up to them. Might as well give them something to think about.

Um, Australia could be at war with China by the end of this year or early next year. Guess who we hold hands with?

I'm not COMPLETELY sure about the source for that video.

Remember the US already has thousands of troops in Afghanistan and with Pakistan as two faced as it is, and relations with Russia being continually dicey that leaves India as the only guaranteed access, though extremely narrow, into and out of the place.

And I don't think our troops in Afghanistan is a good idea either. Somebody explain to me why we're there? Why the US needs to police Afghanistan when we can't even police Portland or Seattle?
