Cuba has put the nation on “War Footing” ( perfect excuse for a totally shattered economy”.).Morbidly obese military leaders announced that “sacrifices will have to be made”, to a totally unimpressed public, who are on enforced diets due to the ongoing and severe food shortages.

They are also recruiting 12 & 13 year olds to fill military ranks.

In addition, they announced that Americans are now not allowed to travel to Cuba. As one cynical Cuban commented, “ if you are worried abt CIA operatives flying in disguised as tourists, don’t. They are already here.”

The Trump Administration is actively seeking regime change in Cuba by the end of the year, emboldened by the recent ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, with senior officials in the administration searching for Cuban government insiders who could help cut a deal to push out the Communist-led government in Cuba by the end of the 2026, people familiar with the matter have told the Wall Street Journal.

Cubans have been brainwashed for decades. Fake bombing alerts in the middle of the night, requiring them to rush to hide in culverts, etc. So they are really worried that a shooting war will break out, with multiple civilian casualties. And like a cornered rat, the regime is ratcheting up repression.

On Jan. 23, at the direction of @SecWar Pete Hegseth, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. Two narco-terrorists were killed and one survived the strike. Following the engagement, USSOUTHCOM immediately notified @USCG
to activate the Search and Rescue system for the survivor. @DeptofWar

Our Washington office can confirm what the optics already suggest: Harfuch has emerged as the explicit point of contact for the United States, and Washington is bypassing President Sheinbaum and operating directly through him.

This is not coordination through the presidency but coordination around it. The engagement structure, the U.S. counterparts involved, and the sequencing of outcomes reflect a deliberate decision by the Administration to recognize Harfuch as the sole effective bilateral operator on security matters.

Operationally, this has formalized a parallel channel. Harfuch engages U.S. counterparts directly, sets operational tempo, and aligns tactics without routing decisions through the presidential office. The shared premise is straightforward: insulating security cooperation from political leadership reduces friction and maximizes deliverability. Information flows are selective by design. Sheinbaum is not treated as a required node in the chain. This is a “don’t ask, don’t tell” arrangement in practice.

The implications are also structural. By elevating Harfuch as the indispensable interlocutor, Washington has materially constrained Sheinbaum’s room for maneuver. Any attempt to remove him would now impose immediate bilateral costs such as loss of access, disruption of active operations, and a clear signal of regression to U.S. counterparts. His role has been externally underwritten. He is no longer merely a domestic appointee, he is now embedded in the North American security architecture.

From Washington’s vantage point, this is calibrated leverage. The Trump Administration is privileging control, speed, and accountability over deference to formal hierarchy. Cooperation will run through the channel that delivers, irrespective of title. From Mexico’s side, the implication is sharper, as the presidency retains nominal authority, but operational gravity has shifted elsewhere.

The United States has selected its counterpart, locked the channel, and raised the political cost of interference. Harfuch operates with direct U.S. backing, selective upward disclosure, and de facto insulation from dismissal. The bypass is real, visible, and now structurally embedded in the bilateral relationship.

Cubans internally are debating the three choices they are hoping will be offered to them; independence, Free Associated State (Puerto Rico's status, or statehood. The US has asked for government officials who are willing to cooperate with them , and the Cuban government is debating who to chose. One is a Castro, but she has offered to change her surname so she can qualify (The US has stipulated no Castros need to volunteer)

Territory status would probably be best. Statehood would be very costly for the USA for a decade or more...

Give him the status of their economy Etc there can you imagine what the cost would be to the US to help support them? I would vote for completely independent status. Let them work it out.

RR
I would tend to agree. But the location of cuba as a forward operating base in the Gulf is too good to miss. We have decades of animosity towards its independent status.

A photo surfaced a couple weeks ago deportees departing the third flight of Cubans being sent back to Havana . I found it very interesting that they were dressed identically in white ts hirts and jogging pants. The reason that I found it interesting is because in Cuba, Santeria (Vodoo) devotees wear white. Was this a coincidence? Or was it a message from Marcos that Santeria will not protect you?

And ironically, or perhaps purposely, the first guy off the plane had a belly on him; a fact commented on by Cubans on the island, currently enduring forced diets due to severe and worsening food shortages.

Secretary Marco Rubio just came out swinging in his opening testimony during the Senate hearing on Venezuela.

Rubio ripped the mask off the Maduro regime and made it perfectly clear for everyone listening why the United States needed to act.

RUBIO: “Let me talk about Venezuela in particular.”

“I’m sure your questions will be about what happened before and led up to and the operation, I want to focus my comments this morning on what happens now, moving forward.”

“Let me just say this. What is our goal going in?”

“We have in our hemisphere a regime operated by an indicted narco trafficker that became a base of operation for virtually every competitor, adversary and enemy in the world.”

“It was for Iran, their primary spot of operation in the Western hemisphere was Venezuela. For Russia, their primary base of operation in the Western hemisphere, along with Cuba and Nicaragua, was Venezuela.”

“In the case of China, China was receiving oil at $20 a barrel discount and they weren’t even paying money for it. It was being used to pay down debt they were owed. This is the oil of the people of Venezuela, and it was being given to the Chinese as barter at a $20 discount per barrel in some cases.”

“And so you had, three of our primary opponents in the world operating from our hemisphere, from that spot.”

“It was also a place where you had a narco trafficking regime that openly cooperated with the FARC and the ELN and other drug trafficking organizations using their national territory.”

“It was an enormous strategic risk for the United States, not halfway around the world, not in another continent, but in the hemisphere in which we all live.”

“It was an untenable situation and it had to be addressed.”

Venezuela Unveils Amnesty Bill For Mass Release Of Political Prisoners

by Tyler Durden
Saturday, Jan 31, 2026 - 10:45 PM
Venezuela's US-backed and CIA-installed interim president Delcy Rodriguez has unveiled a sweeping amnesty bill that could pave the way for the release of hundreds of detainees, in a first major political move since former President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were ousted and whisked off to New York earlier this month.

"We have decided to push ahead with a general amnesty law that covers the whole period of political violence from 1999 to the present day," Rodriguez announced Friday. She issued her address before a who's who of government figures, including judges and federal magistrates, that the National Assembly would take up the bill "with urgency". There are believed to currently be at least 700 inmates deemed political prisoners nationwide.

"May this law serve to heal the wounds left by the political confrontation fueled by violence and extremism," Rodriguez said in the televised address.

"May it serve to redirect justice in our country, and may it serve to redirect coexistence among Venezuelans," she added.

Rodriguez has also declared the closure of El Helicoide, the notorious Caracas detention center run by the intelligence services, long accused by former inmates and independent rights groups of torture and systemic abuse.

The plan is to change it into a sports, social, and cultural complex serving nearby neighborhoods - though surely the country will still maintain its necessary and regular prison system.

Hopefully, Caracas and the US are also being somewhat selective on who they let walk free, given there could be hardened violent criminals and assassins in the mix.

A little over a week after the US incursion into Venezuela and change of government, the head of the country's National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, had first announced the release of a "significant number" of political prisoners.

Under Washington pressure, one prominent name among those freed was the following:

Rocío San Miguel, a vocal critic of Maduro and a defense expert, was the first prisoner confirmed to be freed. Her family told the New York Times that she was taken to the Spanish embassy in Caracas.
Arrested in 2024, she was accused of being involved in a plot to kill the then-president and faced charges of treason, conspiracy and terrorism. Her arrest shocked human rights activists and, because her whereabouts were unknown, was labelled as potential "enforced disappearance" by the UN Human Rights Office.
Rights groups have so far tallied that just over 300 prisoners have been released under Delcy Rodriguez - a small number which again suggests they are likely being selective about it. This new bill means hundreds are set to follow.

Cubans fear that war will start in 2 weeks when there is no more fuel available. So they are now telling each other to stock up on 1. meds 2. nonperishable food 3. water & 4. firewood or charcoal so they can cook.

Of course if they go to the bank and want to cash their paychecks, the banks are out of cash. And how far does a $40.00 a month paycheck get you, any way?

And oh; food has disappeared.

Also some areas have no public water any more. And what do you store it in?

And medicines? One guy needed meds for his daughter but the dr. had no prescription pads. He finally convinced a guy who has a medical museum in Havana to give him one sheet out of an old prescription tablet. OTC meds are nowhere to be found.

A cottage charcoal making industry has emerged.

Have you seen the satellite images of Cuba at night? The only light is in Havana in tourist hotels & gvt buildings. The Cuban gvt tried to arrange a deal with China for a big boatload of candles. China said, "No thanks, not interested in getting between you and the US".

It gets dark very abruptly promptly at 6PM in the tropics..

US warships arrive off coast of Haiti

US military officials said Tuesday American warships had arrived off the coast of Haiti, as the island country’s leaders cling to power in their ongoing war against violent drug gangs.

The USS Stockdale, USCGC Stone and USCGC Diligence entered the Bay of Port-au-Prince to “reflect the United States unwavering commitment to Haiti’s security, stability and a brighter future,” the US embassy in Haiti posted on X.

The flotilla was sent “at the direction of the Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth as a part of “Operation Southern Spear,” the statement said, referring to the US military campaign targeting alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific that has killed more than 100 people in boat strikes.

After facing years of violence and instability, Haiti is entering a new phase of political turbulence in the days before the official end of the mandate for the country’s Presidential Transitional Council on February 7.

Gang violence forced the resignation in 2024 of a previous prime minister, Ariel Henry, and the country has not held elections since 2016, with government authority collapsing in much of the country, leading to overlapping security, health and economic crises.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, with swaths of the country under the control of rival armed gangs who carry out murders, rapes and kidnappings.

The US recently announced new visa restrictions targeting senior officials, who are accused of supporting gangs.

3 US Warships Dispatched To Haiti As Part Of Campaign Against Drug Traffickers

by Tyler Durden
Wednesday, Feb 04, 2026 - 05:40 PM
Authored by Chris Summers via The Epoch Times,
Three U.S. warships have been sent to Haiti as part of Operation Southern Spear, a military operation in the Caribbean to counter narcotics trafficking.

“At the direction of the Secretary of War [Pete Hegseth], the ships USS Stockdale, USCGC Stone, and USCGC Diligence have arrived in the Bay of Port-au-Prince as part of Operation Southern Spear,” the U.S. Embassy in Haiti posted on X on Feb. 3.

The embassy said the presence of the warships reflects the United States’ “unwavering commitment to Haiti’s security, stability, and brighter future.”

The USS Stockdale is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer based in San Diego, while USCGC Stone and USCGC Diligence are Coast Guard cutters based in North Charleston, South Carolina, and Pensacola, Florida, respectively.

“The U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard reaffirm their partnership and support to ensure a safer and more prosperous Haiti,” the U.S. Embassy posted on X.

Operation Southern Spear is targeting narco-trafficking and has led to strikes on several drug smuggling boats since September 2025. On Jan. 3, Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro was captured and indicted on drug trafficking and other charges.

Another boat strike was carried out on Jan. 23, at an undisclosed location, according to U.S. Southern Command.

Unrest in Haiti

Haiti has been mired in political and economic turmoil since July 2021, when President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated at his home in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, by a group of mercenaries, most of whom were Colombian nationals.

Gangs have proliferated and begun to dominate large parts of Haiti, and in May 2025, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio designated two of the largest gangs, Viv Ansanm and Gran Grif, as foreign terrorist organizations.

In November 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump published a new National Security Strategy, which calls for expanded naval and Coast Guard operations and aggressive targeting of drug cartels.

“We want to ensure that the Western Hemisphere remains reasonably stable and well-governed enough to prevent and discourage mass migration to the United States,” the strategy document states. “We want a Hemisphere whose governments cooperate with us against narco-terrorists, cartels, and other transnational criminal organizations.”

Haiti has not had elections since 2016. A nine-member Transitional Presidential Council was appointed in April 2024, but has been marked by allegations of corruption and a declining security situation in Haiti.

On Jan. 23, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, who was appointed by the Transitional Presidential Council, spoke to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said the call “reaffirmed U.S. support for Haiti’s stability and security.”

“The current violence caused by gangs can only be stopped with consistent, strong leadership, with the full support of the Haitian people,” the State Department said. Rubio said the Transitional Presidential Council ”must be dissolved by February 7 without corrupt actors seeking to interfere in Haiti’s path to elected governance for their own gains.”

Last month the State Department took steps to revoke the visas of two unidentified members of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential ‍Council (TPC) and their immediate families because of their alleged involvement in gangs.

“These actions are being taken due to the TPC members’ involvement in the operation of gangs and other criminal organizations in Haiti, including through interference with the Government of Haiti’s efforts to counter gangs designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) by the United States,” the State Department said in a Jan. 25 statement.

In September 2025 the United Nations Security Council authorized the conversion of a Multinational Security Support mission—which had been deployed in Haiti in June 2024—into a 5,500-strong Gang Suppression Force.

China, Russia, and Pakistan abstained in the vote.

In December 2025, the United States and Canada said 18 entities had offered personnel, resources, and technical support for the Gang Suppression Force.

“We were looking for 5,500 forces,” Rubio said on Dec. 19, 2025. “We already have pledges of up to 7,500 forces from a variety of countries. We’ve seen donors step up to fund that effort.”

CUBA IS ON THE BRINK — WORST CRISIS SINCE THE 1990s “SPECIAL PERIOD”

Nationwide blackouts.
Fuel running out.
Empty shelves.
Transport paralyzed.

Cuba is facing its most severe collapse risk in 65+ years.

⚡️ What’s happening
• Power outages lasting 10–20+ hours a day
• Fuel queues stretching for miles
• Food & medicine shortages worsening
• Oil lifelines from Venezuela & Mexico cut or halted

Pressure is unprecedented
President Trump authorized tariffs on any country supplying oil to Cuba, choking off remaining energy flows. U.S. officials openly say the goal is regime collapse.

The UN is now warning of a potential humanitarian collapse if energy shortages continue.

Havana’s response
The regime calls it a “blockade,” represses dissent, and says it’s open to talks — but not political change.

The reality
Some analysts see collapse within months.
Others warn the regime may cling on through misery, repression, and mass emigration.

But one thing is clear:
An island 90 miles from Florida has never been closer to a breaking point.

The next few weeks — oil reserves, blackouts, U.S. moves — will decide everything.
