LOL....affirmative action for my pilot, or MD? Sounds like a suicide plan to me. What we are going to do is ride this this once great country into the ground. Like a 757 in a plunge to the Earth. But...lemmings do run off a cliff. We are doing that.

Well that's another airline I won't fly. I don't care what race, creed, color, sex, whatever, the pilot is....I JUST WANT THE BEST AND MOST QUALIFIED PERSON FLYING THE PLANE!! Screw that woke BS!! If they can't cut the mustard they shouldn't be in the pilot's seat.

According to United CEO Scott Kirby, "they simply don't have the access or the opportunity."

People Of Color have had a huge leg up in the military for many decades. Remember Colin Powell? Affirmative Action general. The airlines get a huge number of their pilots from the ranks of former military. If POC had some overwhelming desire - or had the aptitude - to be pilots, the military would have been churning them out by the thousands since the 1970s.

Want a color-blind employment environment (which was the supposed goal of the original civil rights movement)? Then make it color-blind! They won't and can't do it because too many POC simply don't have the intelligence, aptitude or desire to be pilots. As a result - as we've seen in so many other fields - there won't be a level playing field, but we'll see a canted playing field instead, with unearned advantages going to POC.

Do you want to fly on that airline?

I quit air travel in 1980.

If I had even a hint of a "POC" pilot I wouldn't fly if they paid me $20,000 a trip.

BTW, 2500 is a hell of lot of pilots. If they don't get them in the system in the next 6 - 12 months it ain't happening.

Yeah, I know all that. And more. United Airlines has always been known as the quota airline in the business and I've always avoided flying them. They confirmed that again this week when they said they were hiring another set of quota pilots, females and "persons of color" as at least 1/4 of their hires. They're proud of that. It's the perfect way to kill a bunch of people. Don't hire based on what they can do. Hire based on what someone looks like. Recipe for disaster, but you can count on the press covering it up if someone does burn one in. ****ers.

Bad rap. When CP was in college, somebody did a survey of the Ivy League and was horrified (?) to find the vast majority of Blacks had a Jamaican background, like Powell. Powell pretty well made it on his own.

Disagreeing. First, Powell was known in the Army to have been promoted over numerous better-qualified white males. Second, Schwartzkopf was horrified by how Powell wanted to approach Desert Storm, and had to go over his head to get that squashed and prevent a disaster.

Riding on Southwest last month, there was some kind of foreignor flying the plane. Then the airline Stewart was telling the lingo and she appeared to be foreign also and I didn’t understand a word she said!

This is similar to when I was with the FAA years ago, there was a push to hire more blacks and females so they got preference plus an extra 10 points on the civil service test you took and had to pass high enough to go to the academy in OKC. That got them a few white women, 2 black guys and no black females out of a class of approx 300 people that I was in. Even with preferences & extra points, I never heard of a black woman passing that civil service exam. If they can't pass a rigged test then we should all be grateful.

United is the only airline that flies into the North Bend/Coos Bay (OTH) airport in Oregon. The last thing I need (and it probably would be) is a duh-versity hire trying to pinpoint a jet landing on the postage stamp sized runway at OTH. I'll be flying another airline into Medford or Eugene and renting a car for the 3 hour drive to see my friends.
