GOV/MIL (Unconfirmed) USS Abraham Lincoln Rocked By Deadly Clash Amid Iran: 7 US Navy Personnel "KILLED, SEVERAL HURT"

So . . . Did you all ever decide if Iran was losing or if Trump was winning?
Today Trump is winning bigly and Iran is begging for a deal while all their military is destroyed. Tomorrow the straight is closed because Iran is hitting ships....on the same water that we controlled. I keep seeing this on news reruns for the 87th time. We have also destroyed their nuclear program a few times in the last year, but it is still a threat. They are just 2 weeks/months away from getting the bomb.....since the late 90s

I know, let's move some of these deranged Liberal news reporter on the ship, for 8 months, take away their cell phones, and put them to work. How do you think they would survive?

Top U.S. commander acknowledges mental health issues on USS Lincoln

U.S. Central Command Commander Adm. Brad Cooper on Sunday acknowledged mental health challenges aboard the USS Lincoln after reports that a sailor jumped overboard amid the aircraft carrier’s long Middle East deployment.

“Here’s an important fact: Of the U.S. Navy’s 11 active aircraft carriers, the Lincoln currently has among the lowest number of cases related to mental health,” Cooper said in a statement posted to X following his visit to the ship on Saturday. “This doesn’t mean that all is perfect. Find any of the nearly 4 million Navy veterans in America today and they will likely tell you that service at sea for long periods isn’t for everyone.”

Cooper’s visit and statement follow reports of widespread morale and mental health issues aboard the Lincoln, which has been deployed for more than eight months. The Navy Times reported last week that several sailors had attempted to go overboard, and Stars and Stripes also reported on widespread mental health issues.

Cooper, the top U.S. commander in the war with Iran, said his visit to the ship was “awe-inspiring” and lauded the crew for “stepping up and making mental health and crew resilience a leadership priority.”

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, however, have sought to downplay reports of deteriorating morale aboard the Lincoln.

Asked by a reporter on Friday whether the Lincoln’s deployment has gone on too long, Trump said, “No, no, no” and added, “not nearly long enough.” The president also said that the Lincoln would soon be replaced in the region by a different carrier.

Hegseth said that reports are “completely misrepresented.”

The USS George Washington is now headed toward the Middle East and is expected to take the place of the Lincoln, MS Now reported.

Lawmakers, meanwhile, have questioned and criticized the Pentagon over conditions aboard the Lincoln.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., who serves on the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, said in a statement on Saturday that there “must be accountability for the reported deteriorating conditions endured by our service members serving in a reckless war started with no justification, no strategy, and no end in sight.”

“I demand hearings, accountability, and a clear plan to protect our service members and prioritize American families,” she said.

This might tie into what they're seeing on the ship:

Young Adults (18-25) Mental Health Statistics

36.2%[1]
Of young adults aged 18-25 experienced any mental illness (AMI) in the past year
This is the highest prevalence of any adult age group in the United States, highlighting a critical period of vulnerability.

Young adults (18-25) have the highest prevalence of any mental illness (AMI) among all adult age groups, with over one-third affected. 36.2%

A significant treatment gap exists, as less than half of young adults with a mental illness receive any form of professional care. 49.1%

Suicidal ideation is a serious concern, with more than 1 in 8 young adults reporting serious thoughts of suicide in the past year. 12.6%

Mental health conditions significantly impact employment, with the unemployment rate for young adults with these conditions being more than double that of their peers. 18%

Young adulthood, the period from ages 18 to 25, is a time of profound transition, marked by shifts in education, career, and social structures. This developmental stage also coincides with the highest rates of mental illness of any age group[1]. Ongoing brain maturation and hormonal changes can increase susceptibility to mood disorders, while external pressures like academic stress, financial uncertainty, and social isolation act as common triggers

A US serviceman adds "what people in the media don't understand when they compare past conflicts to this one, is this operation has no morale behind it. That makes a world of difference to service members deployed to undesirable locations indefinitely."

Has nothing to do with the Lincoln situation.

You will not be drifting this thread with your regular jew hating crap.

BTW, that's a KC-135 and it did not take off from an aircraft carrier

On the last part, the soldiers that had issues serving their tour, will either opt for a section 8 at the first opportunity or finish their tour and get out with utmost haste.

Yep... and from what I've observed, the current crop of young adults are less stable and mature than the teens I knew from GenX were at 15-16.

I'm betting the majority of the younger cohort on the Lincoln (and everywhere else in our armed forces) went to boot camp directly from their childhood bedroom. Mom did their laundry, cooked their meals, fixed them snacks, reminded them (over and over) to finish their homework...

They went from being coddled "children" to being an active duty service member expected to pull their weight in a very responsible job in the fully adult world. No "time outs", no "stress rooms" where they can cry and cuddle puppies.

Honestly, its surprising the whole situation isn't worse!

Armchair generals talk guns, bombs, troops and missiles, the real ones talk logistics. A long ponderous supply line is our achilles heel

It's every armies Achilles but they just don't learn.

Rommel in Africa
Operation Barbarossa
Napoleon in Russia
The Japanese in the Pacific Theatre
The Crusader Army and the Battle of Hattin
The Wacht am Rhein

Many more.

We... Just... Don't... Learn

The Lincoln is a BIG CARRIER....you can't resupply a 5,000 man ship via aircraft

I wasn't Navy so I will bow to your knowledge. I just want to point out that we resupplied a city of 2.5 million solely by air at one time in history. Sure it can't all be done by planes on a carrier but there are other avenues of approach.

There was also a time when the motto, "Adapt, Improvise, Overcome" was embraced. We didn't just roll-over and say, "Can't be done". We would improvise a way to get it done. Period. Miracles happened through our ingenuity. But, that was thanks to a generation that went through the toughest economic collapse without the benefit of government safety nets. They *had* to overcome because option 2 was death.

Without the Great Depression, we lose WWII.

Eric Daugherty:

HOLY SMOKES. Marine Joey Jones, who deployed to Afghanistan and lost his legs there, just ERUPTED after the fake news amplified complaints about "food" and "conditions" on the Abraham Lincoln

"To SIT THERE and say that it was terrible because you had a 'corn dog and a hot dog,' I would have traded a BLOCK OF C4 to the TALIBAN for a hot dog about July 2010!"

"To that little kid and whoever raised him, Lord HELP YOU if you ever go into a hot war on the ground like MILLIONS of Americans! That I can only THINK what a World War II veteran sitting there who's lucid enough today to see that and think about the six-month journey home from fighting the toughest war we've EVER fought after being there for four years was thinking, listening to him COMPLAIN like that."

"You know what I ate in Afghanistan for 6 months on a burner with using a little burner? I ate ramen noodles. I had to pull the seasoning packet out because that's too much sodium in it and I put tuna packets in it. That's what I ate!"

"How WEAK are you on TV complaining about tuna and noodles? I'm sorry! YOU volunteered to serve your country."

"You can come back and get out of the military and do what all of these Democrat veterans and COMPLAIN about it and make commercials and be a SELLOUT if you want to and come up with a new way of doing things!"

"The last Democrat president that I remember that was deploying troops, Barack Obama had me going to Iraq on patrol bases for 15 months at a time, eating MREs!"

"I'm sorry, but you're a sitting DUCK on a patrol base in Iraq, in Afghanistan, a heck of a lot more than you are on a fortified Navy ship sitting in the water!"

"it makes me fume. If he sat there and said we didn't have any clean water to drink, we couldn't take a shower. I mean, well, I didn't get to take a shower for about six months, but still, you know, something that has something to do with hygiene?!"

"You know, like getting sick, there was a scurvy outbreak and, the guys that were missing legs were only giving wooden pegs instead of metal ones? Then maybe I might have some sympathy!"

The fake news is COMPLICIT!

Then I saw what they turned the Air Force training experience into... They take the airman into offices now where they have one-on-one discussions with the drill instructor instead of just ripping into them during drill. One of the main motivating factors when I was in was to NOT goof up so you didn't get embarrassed in front of the whole flight. Now, that motivation is gone. You can go cry on the DI's shoulder, instead.

We are so effed...

I am going to take my $100 winnings from not getting beat-up by that scrawny Senior DI and put the whole pot on us never winning another war, ever again.

You nailed it. The maturity level of these "adults" is appalling. I was driving tractors at 12 years old. Drove a school bus at 16. Tended 300 acres of cotton at 17. Right by myself. Yes, I know about maturity. And the lack thereof.

True...however those were CARGO PLANES....a LOT of CARGO PLANES. You can't land and launch CARGO PLANES on Aircraft Carriers. They are TOO BIG and trying to launch one off a Carrier would first right the nose gear off the plane and just launch them into the ocean to be run over by the ship itself.

Yes, we did once launch B-25 Mitchell medium bombers off a carrier ONCE. We didn't land them on the carrier.
AND......
Lockheed KC-130F Hercules
Carrier:
USS Forrestal (CVA-59)
Date: October–November 1963
GU_fFp-HLR_-qPV6-gFhrtz9UJGivKL8Nxtyh7WKAklKYigimwLwyAbMJynczDsw0PAWiCAYEkMaYiSFblUetRfSzoCmtUdpA9gke_gSECW4lg0n80lRLP9xpmcHxpPIONMmdgcS1KPailkpHdQqTaM92skSz2iEPudOzVAHc6M

The Navy proved that it could work.
But operationally, it was a terrible idea.
The C-130 was so enormous that:
  • It couldn't fit on the carrier elevators.
  • It occupied a huge portion of the flight deck.
  • A disabled C-130 could effectively cripple flight-deck operations.
  • It couldn't be moved into the hangar.
  • Carrier operations involve much rougher conditions than the carefully controlled test environment.
  • And, most importantly, the Navy already had smaller aircraft better suited to COD missions.
Believe me, I did a launch off the Midway on the Mail COD.....talk about a kick in the arse!!

My biggest question on this issue of resupply is WHERE THE HELL ARE THE USNS RESUPPLY SHIPS?!?! Our navy can resupply everything our warships need underway anywhere in the world. So there is no excuse for our ships to be running out of anything. Something stinks.

I do wonder about the quality and nerve of this younger generation of sailors. I fear they have been coddled too much. Too much P/C, Everybody wins attitudes, limp wristed garbage. I recently read that something like 36% of our young adults are dealing with various mental health issues and only 8% of todays youth are fit for military service WITHOUT need for waivers, either overweight, physically or educationally lacking. Folks we are in deep Kimchee!!

SO??

You're buying into all the hostile reports based on the word of a few whiners?

It's the military.

The only easy day was yesterday.

Sometimes it sucks.

Very true, the only easy day was yesterday. And believe me....I've been in more than a few sucky experiences in my 22 years of naval service. However....I'm saying something about this whole thing just doesn't add up. Of course we (the people) are being fed a line of B.S.,....that is the nature of things with governments.

It's the nature of things of .guv flavor.

I've lived it too.

Look at the source of these "reports", do you trust them more?

Look at the source on the OP, known crap.

Think about how many peeps in a crew of 5000 are mad at everything and live to stir shit.

How much comms is allowed off that ship to family members? (I don't have a clue)

If 1 or 2 had a tale of woe and misery, seems like there would be a few hundred more?

The commies and all their fellow travelers will make the most out of any one negative report.

Who's talking about what the other 4998 sailors have to say about the situation?

I keep going back to one of the Jody calls we marched to.

GI beans and GI gravy...
Geee I wish I'd joined the Navy.

Yep, OP was garbage... but look, it worked in their favor...

It got 5 pages of posts/comments here, and awareness, even though we knew it was crap.

Oh I know. Some of the ole timers fail recognize their own, for some reason they think everyone sounds like them. I would have loved to have met them in the aor…

You have fairly diverse group of veterans here.

All branches are represented.

Different eras, Viet Nam, Cold War, Sandbox, some did things in paces they can never discuss.

Most have a very similar take on the .mil.

Not all good, not all bad, just a POV developed from real experiences.

Then you get one or two outliers who have a generally opposing take on things.

Then you look at how all these peeps have represented themselves in this community.

Who is consistently solid, with a history of being no bullshit types?

Who is questionable, when you look at their long term contributions here?

Who only pops up and stirs shit when there is contentious subjects being discussed?

All of these things factor in on how someone is received.
