British Columbia will permanently go on DST as of this upcoming change. They apparently got tired of waiting for the Canadian central government to get its collective thumbs out of its collective ass and just went ahead without Ottawa's blessing (which may say something about secessionist attitudes in the province). The West Coast (including British Columbia) often coordinate matters related to the region, so this might light a fire under California, Oregon, and Washington state to get D.C. to let the three states go permanently on DST so that the entire West Coast (excluding Alaska) will be on the same time.

IMO, that is something that Canada got right. I love DST.
 
This says something really bad about our government. Of all the things that could or should be law, this should be the easiest thing in the world to pass. The fact that it hasn't been done is a high def illustration at the sharpest resolution of how ineffective our lawmakers have become.
 
My personal made-up conspiracy theory is that TPTB got together and decided to enact DST just to see if the peons were stupid enough to put up with something that silly. We apparently are. They keep piling on more silly stuff just to amuse themselves.

This is so important in that Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are spent every year by people, Cities, and States, being forced to change their Clocks.

Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using, Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive!

The House will be attaching The Sunshine Protection Act to “The Highway Bill.”

Great work by Troy Nehls, and all of the Members who voted, as well, for Railway Safety.

I am going to work very hard to see The Sunshine Protection Act signed into Law.

It’s time that people can stop worrying about the “Clock,” not to mention all of the work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice yearly production.

It will also be a very nice WIN for the Republican Party. Take it! We are going with the far more popular alternative, Saving Daylight, which gives you a longer, brighter Day — And who can be against that — This is an easy one!

Thank you to everyone who supported this important Bill, and especially Chairman Brett Guthrie and Vern Buchanan.

Six months ago, the Nevada Legislature was poised to pass an end to daylight saving time. What happened?

A Reno Democrat, Assemblywoman Selena La Rue Hatch, sponsored Assembly Bill 81, and it appeared to have momentum. Republicans and Democrats in the Senate and the Assembly signed on as cosponsors. On April 17, it was passed in the Assembly on a 27-15 vote.

It went to the Senate, and was referred to the Committee on Government Affairs. And it never came out.

It never got a vote in committee, so it never made it to the Senate floor, and Gov. Joe Lombardo never got a chance to sign it.

The change is a big disruption in the lives of people, and adjusting twice a year causes some real problems. The bill would have ended the switch to daylight time — the “spring forward” — and the clocks would have stayed on standard time.

As conversations around the issue played out, a lot of doctors came down on the side of converting permanently to daylight time instead. They said daylight time is a better match for the natural sleep rhythms associated with the sleep schedule that most people keep. That includes school-age children, and that schedule runs the lives of families everywhere.

The trouble is, the Nevada Legislature doesn’t have the authority to do that under current law. The Silver State would have to wait, along with everyone else, for that “Act of Congress.”

Looks like not everyone will be happy, no matter what time it will be.

I,m guessing these are not digital clocks :shr:

so, most of the young folks wont look at them anyhow

at 1 time I owned almost 100 windup clocks.

presently, I have only about 7 or 8

one is over 100 yrs old.

bought it for less than $50

had it refurbished for $500:shkr:

beautiful clock that will last another 100 yrs.

I can fix some things on old clocks

but complete overhaul is beyond my scope.
 
For the record, I prefer regular "standard time"--with the sun more or less on the meridian at noon (the way "God made it"). but the fact it, it is the bi-annual clock change I hate most of all. I don't need or want it. Time zones were made by and for the railroads. They are irrelevant now. What time do airline pilots use. We can go with New Zealand time (like Antarctica), or Greenwich Time for all I care. Just pick one and stick with it.

That doesn't even really work. We're almost at 100W, and Central time zone. My in-laws are in NE Illinois, ~88W. Still Central time zone. East edge of it, we're not far from the west edge of it. Their solar noon is 45 minutes off from ours. Neither of us see the sun overhead at noon...or 1pm...
 
If "they" eliminate the time change twice a year how will people remember to change the batteries in their smoke detectors
There must be accompanying legislation to account for that --maybe we could add 2 more federal holidays
 
As much as I want the changes to stop....I don't care which one just stop the changes, there are MORE important things I wish would be focused on. How about lets crack down on crime? Teen takeovers? Actually get more of these illegals out? Stop the muslim takeover of OUR country? In the grand scheme of things time is an inconvenience and not life threatening.... just my thoughts on a grumpy morning.

I hear ya Ginnie, I'm grumpier than usual this morning, almost curmudgeonly in fact :) But I am watching the memorial day parade in DC on C-span this morning and that is helping me to "ungrump" or is it "degrump"

Trump Indicates He'll Sign Bill Making Daylight Saving Time Permanent

President Donald Trump has indicated he would sign a bill to make daylight saving time permanent as a House of Representatives committee advanced a measure that would codify the change.

Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using, Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive!" Trump wrote on Thursday in a Truth Social post.

The president said that there is considerable "work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice yearly production," referring to the changing of the time. He also said that "it will also be a very nice WIN for the Republican Party."

"We are going with the far more popular alternative, Saving Daylight, which gives you a longer, brighter Day - And who can be against that - This is an easy one!" Trump added.

Known as the Sunshine Protection Act, the bill was proposed by Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), who released a statement saying that it would "bring us one step closer to ending the outdated and unpopular practice of changing our clocks twice a year."

"Floridians and Americans across the country are tired of the biannual time change, and the evidence is clear that permanent daylight saving time can improve public health, reduce traffic accidents, lower crime and encourage more outdoor activity," he said in the statement.

In a social media post last year, Trump urged Congress to address the issue.

"The House and Senate should push hard for more Daylight at the end of a day. Very popular and, most importantly, no more changing of the clocks, a big inconvenience and, for our government, A VERY COSTLY EVENT!!!" he wrote in April 2025.

For years, advocates have called for the United States to stop making the twice-yearly changes. Among those urging that the country stick to one time for the entire year are the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

A poll from The Associated Press and NORC released in October 2025 also found that only 12 percent of Americans favor the current daylight saving time system. Around 47 percent are opposed to the current system and 40 percent are neutral, it also found.

The United States first started using the time shift more than a century ago, during World War I, and again during World War II. Congress passed a law in 1966 that allowed states to decide whether to participate but required their decisions to be uniform across their territories. All states except Arizona and Hawaii make the time shifts, and those two states remain on standard time year-round.

According to Buchanan's office, the Sunshine Protection Act was included in an amendment to a larger bill, the Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute to the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act.
