This is not opinion, what I heard at the gym or something I read online. I saw this in person as my hometown went from a middle class society to third world where many of the population sits around not wanting a job, even if offered one. For a population of 70K, they have 14 formal drug rehab centers with over 40 buildings housing out-of-state 1,000+ druggies. You can't drive down a street without seeing them in groups. This county is just like many areas in our country where manufacturing moved to China and Mexico long ago. Over the years, their despair has grown to where no hope resides and they resent anyone trying to hep them now.

I, too, come from an area that once was booming with steel and manufacturing, all slowly shut down and shipped to China. It's been economically depressed for several decades now.

At one point we were promised a large scale aluminum plant, with the state investing several million into the project. It turned into a giant fiasco, with the state having to claw back the money they put into it and the project was abandoned. It has been the butt of many jokes over the years.

Another project that created a lot of buzz was an outfit that came into a small town in my area with an ambitious project to convert an old mine into a large underground data storage center. They promised over a thousand jobs, and people were very excited at the prospect of turning the small town into something prosperous. It turned out to be a giant scam, the guy was a convicted conman that had pulled similar scams. So the whole project went nowhere.

Now, the citizens of the same county that got swindled over the aluminum plant, was told over the summer that a large data center is coming to town, and was only told after the deal had been finalized, without the input of the people. The people overwhelmingly are against it, but are basically being told tough shit, you're getting it whether you like it or not. And I can guarantee you that this data center will NOT make the county better.

Sounds like someone who already has some sort of industry in their neighborhood or is from the city. I live in the country with no industry for many miles. There are not a lot of people here wanting any part of an industrial landscape in their backyard.

We have had several town meetings, and have a moratorium in place for 1 year. The reality appears that we can stall but likely not stop them. However, we will not just roll over and say "well, at least you're not a paper mill!" :rolleyes:

Not in all cases. We have several here in Georgia where Eminent Domain is being used to take farmland that has been in the family for generations. There was a young woman posting videos begging for help because they were taking her family's farm and were going to demolish her grandmother's old farmhouse to put a data center on the property. She had the help of one of the candidates who running for office in Georgia as well.

Google came in here, offered 4x the value to buy the land, then threatened those who did not want to sell for any of Google's money with court and eminent domain because they were partnered with a power company (public utility). A relatively new work-around called "indirect public domain". The little guy remains the little guy in the face of a behemoth.

75% of Americans thought the 2020 elections weren't rigged.
Just because you have a big bloc of people saying something is right does not make it right.

Data centers are for collecting information, all information, about you! They will track everything you do and decide if you are allowed to keep doing those things. They will track what you eat, who your friends are, where you work, what is on your phone, what your TV cameras see in your home, all your emails and posts on line, how many people are in your home every minute of the day & night, what your Fitbit is reading, etc.

I was triggered when he pushed the poison vax and loved being called the father of the vax. Having worked many years in and among the research facilities, I knew the vax was not safe & effective because it bypassed ALL the normal testing and trials. It was a pre-planned poison shot. Trump still says he saved millions of lives with it. Liar.

Actually he essentially said communities that were against data centers would stay poor and backwards because data centers were the future of jobs and investment in the US and they could either embrace it or be left behind

When I and my son were employed in "Data Centers"
which was from about 2000 to 2015,
I was surprised by the number of data centers
and their locations.

Elevator in a non descript building that went down with no floors marked. Office buildings with bronze animal statues in front. Office buildings with windows. Office buildings with what looked like windows. Warehouses.

The only way you might know is by the semi trailer size generators behind decorative brick walls or chain link fence with plastic strips to block the view.

The person's bill may have gone up, but there are other factors in play, have they been stuck under the heat dome crushing TX and other states in the midwest?

Remind them that when it was really hot in June, 95% of the power was derived from nuclear, gas and coal. 3% came from windmills and solar. They would have to double all they have done, to achieve 6%. It's a total waste of money, and land. No sane person should be pushing these ugly intrusive fields.... It's a racket.
 
Solar farms actually use MORE petroleum products. All the parts needed to create and maintain the massive farms uses petroleum to make.

And he's wrong about that.
It seems there are vet few jobs once these things are built.
With the competition for electricity, who can keep up in an electricity bidding war.
And once the water is gone, so are we.

Trump's been getting a lot of things wrong, lately.
