…… Toaster Oven - Air Fry or Convection?

I want a counter top toaster/oven that will bake and roast as well - but I don't care about it being able to broil a small steak or pork chop. I have a grill for that. What are your experiences and recommendations? I hear the air fry feature is somewhat limited to certain foods but that the convection is similar and will do practically everything.

Don't want to heat up the big oven during summertime in Az nor do I really cook much these days. Oh - and bake a potato or crisp up hash browns or heat a slice of frozen pizza?

I needed a new microwave late last year, and debated the same question - I also live in AZ, so don't like the oven heat in the summer either. I ended up getting a Galanz Microwave/air fryer/convection oven about 6 months ago that lets you do pretty much everything. It doesn't have a "toaster" feature specifically, but you could probably do it with the roast or air fryer function. I usually just use my toaster for that. Pretty much anything else I want to do can be done in it. The downside is it must be cleaned after air frying every time if there's a lot of splatter - usually with chicken wings (my favorite). The basket is kind of shallow for the air fryer, but still works great, and you can roast, bake, make a steak, and use microwave/convection combo cooking (nice for baked potatoes). I really like it and it's great for reducing the heat in the kitchen or having a 2nd oven when needed.

It has several programmed functions for specific things like baked or roasted potatoes, fries, chicken wings or legs, roast, cakes, etc. I just google for methods to cook other foods with the air-fryer or convection when I need to know times or info.

It's a bit loud when running, and needs to have a few inches of clearance around it. Also the first one I had made a loud grinding noise with the microwave after a couple of uses, so I replaced it and I haven't had any problems at all with the new one. They were very quick at getting the replacement to me.

Thanks for your feedback, GF . I have 2 microwaves right now, one above the stove and a small one that reheats, so I don't really need that feature. But I want something that will do everything else that you mentioned above. Is there such an animal?

Here's another way to approach the problem: what are you going to be cooking?

I get by with a 1,100 watt microwave and a small Black and Decker toaster oven / broiler in the summer. I make primarily salads with meat strips (beef, chicken, pork) over the top. I broil 2 - 3 pork chops at a time, cut them up, and that's added to salad for the next couple of days.

I also grill outside a lot. I try to make 10 - 12 hamburgers at a time and pop those in the freezer for later reheating in the microwave. I could have that and a baked potato, also microwaved.

That's about as complicated as my meals get in the summer. In the winter I do more stews, roasted chicken and such with a slow cooker.

Makes killer toasted sandwiches, can put new life in frozen pizza, and it will even grill steak.

I threw out my microwave 11 years ago. I can heat up food in a toaster oven in less than 7 minutes...that's fast enough for me. I had a Farberware toaster oven that was great. It even had a rotisserie attachment. Daughters bought me a Ninja foodi....it's a toaster oven that flips up and out of the way when I'm not using it. It can cook frozen foods fast, be used as a dehydrator, air fry (cook on both sides at once) I don't use my big oven very much at all anymore. my Ninja is big enough to bake cakes and cookies....cornbreads...and then flip up out of the way for saving counter space.
There are different types at different prices on different sites....you'd have to shop around for the best price:

We just picked up an Air Fryer from Costco for $39. So far we're learning how to use it and really love it. Fish, potatoes, veggies so far....and SOOOOO GOOD!! Easy to use. Easy to clean and FAST!!!

An Air Fryer is essentially a convection oven. So far it looks very functional and useful.

We have an Oster counter top oven, a power xl 8 quart air fryer and a 6 qt instapot pressure cooker in addition to our stove top and a grill outside.

ten months old, i am pleased with them both.

I got an older convection toaster oven and a newer air fryer oven, my old toaster oven is hotter by far

Maybe I got a bad air fryer, its a power xl and I hate it.

This is the one I got, don't get it!

It all depends to be quite honest. My counter top oven is a hit 90% of the time, the other 10% of the time we're like WTF, what's wrong with you.

We bought the air fryer so I could cut back on a few commercial items and cook them at home, aka chicken nuggets which I absolutely love, and I can cook those up from scratch in the air fryer.

It saves money, sodium and carbs. I also love cabbage steaks cooked in the air fryer.

So your milage may vary.

For me it's full flavor and low carb meals.

I do love my solar oven in the summer. The kitchen stays cool and the solar oven still works in blackouts. Very hot but no energy costs. It cooks very quickly in the summer and the food tastes great.

I use my air fryer more then my countertop oven. I do pork chops, chicken, hot sandwiches, about anything frozen. I put loose foods in dishes, wrap sandwiches in foil, spay oil on the breaded foods for crispness and recently been experimenting with baking in it. I like it so much I bought another for a spare. I love a good countertop oven though. Each one has a purpose.

I don't use a microwave because of health concerns, plus I was pretty much just using it to melt butter and chocolate for baking and the footprint in my small kitchen was too big. I sold it, and got a 7-in-1 air fryer that roasts, broils, bakes, toasts, dehydrates, and even has a rotisserie function. Unlike most air fryers that have a basket, this one has a front door and several removable shelves on the inside. I use it daily; it's the one appliance I wouldn't want to be without.
