This is a copy of a message that I put on TTOL, a forum somewhat similar to this one, and is now defunct.
I’m not a doctor, so legally I can’t give medical advice, but I can tell you about my own personal experience.
This is a true story that happened to me, not just something that I’m passing along.
In late 2005 or 2006, I found out that I had bladder cancer. After that, I went through three chemotherapy treatments. Every time the doctors took a biopsy, it came back positive for cancer. The treatments apparently help some people, but they did not work for me.
The important thing to note that my last treatment was in January 2008. Afterwards, when the next biopsy was done, cancer cells were still found. For me, that proved the treatments did not kill the cancer cells. The doctors advised that I get my bladder removed.
I read an article on the internet about taking baking soda mixed in maple syrup and had a strong desire to try it.
About the same time as reading the article, I found out had two types of cancer cells, one fairly slow and the other was a more aggressive type. So far, I have put off the operation as I was not mentally prepared to give in to it and what comes afterward.
I took the “home made recipe” and when I got the next biopsy results, there was no cancer cells found! The doctor seemed a bit surprised, but explained that the biopsy only samples a portion at a time and could have missed where the actual cancer cells are located. His advice was to have to bladder removed and explained what happens after the cancer spreads throughout the body. At this point, I was not sure what to do. If they had found even one cancer cell, I may agreed with the operation.
I decided to wait for the results on another biopsy to decide on the operation. Biopsy after biopsy kept showing negative results.
I don’t recall the exact date, but quite sometime later, after having another biopsy, it was found that I had both types of cancer again (slow and fast growing). The first thing the doctors suggested was to remove my bladder. I said no, the first thing I need to do is try the ‘homemade’ recipe again. That is what I did, and all the future tests have been coming back negative.
Here is the information about the recipe:
How this works: - This treatment uses a combination of 100% pure maple syrup and baking soda. Put both ingredients in a saucepan and heat over low heat till they bind. Stir constantly while heating as it becomes very ‘frothy’.
Cancer cells love sugar. They consume many times the amount of sugar that a normal healthy cell does. The maple syrup-baking soda combination targets cancer cells.
The sweet maple syrup acts like a Trojan horse and enters the cancer cell taking the baking soda in with it. Cancer cell require an acidic environment to live, but baking soda, being very alkaline, kills the cancer microbes inside the cancer cells.
Method:
1 part aluminum-free baking soda
3 parts Maple Syrup (Note: I have heard that some people used Honey instead)
Mix in a small saucepan over very low heat for 5 minutes. Mix briskly.
Dosage:
1 teaspoon twice a day, or as required.
When I first tried it, I “messed up”. I was supposed to take one teaspoon twice a day, however, because of the circumstances, I figured I would take it three times a day, as I didn’t know of any negative effects if I “overdosed” on it. For whatever reason, I also misread the abbreviation for teaspoon and I made it tablespoon. So, it turned out that I was taking a lot more than the amount recommended in the article. I did this for about 2 weeks until my next scheduled test for the bladder cancer. But, maybe it wasn’t such a “mess up”, as that next test came back negative for cancer cells!
The doctors and nurses seemed to be a bit dumbfounded, and they also told me that if I took too much for too long it would lower the natural amount of acid in the urine and could result in a urinary tract infection. The first thing out of my mouth was to ask them “which would you prefer to have, bladder cancer or an infection?” Even they chuckled as the answer was a ‘no-brainer’. As it turned out, I never got an infection, but wanted to let you know of the possibility. If I had got one, I would have tried cranberry juice before taking drugs to get rid of it.
Now, (when I remember), I take it about once a month for just a day or two depending on how much I make up. Occasionally, I also just add some baking soda to my drinking water. I also take it as my last drink of the day, figuring that it will stay in my bladder for a longer period that way.
And one last thing.... although personal tastes vary from one person to another, I think it tastes rather nasty, but worth it!
Added note: Today is July 18, 2026 and I still have my bladder.
