The Present Moment Has Set Blacks Back a Half-Century
BY DENNIS PRAGER JUN 30, 2020 12:00 AM EST

According to the make-believe world of the left, we are experiencing a great moment in American racial history. For the first time, the story goes, more whites than ever are coming to realize how racist America is, how racist cops are and how systemically racist everything in America is. Only now do many Americans understand just how racist Uncle Ben, Aunt Jemima, Ulysses Grant, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, “whitening” agents, meritocracy, Western culture, Christianity, jailing Blacks and the NFL are. The bestselling book in America is about alleged “white fragility” — the term for any rational response to the irrational charge that all whites are racist.

All this is supposed to be good for America’s Blacks.

But none of it is. In fact, it is all destructive.

Take the movement to defund police departments and the incessant charges of “police brutality” and “racist police.” Only those who don’t care about Blacks other than using them to advance their power — Democrats and the rest of the left, both Black and white — argue this war against the police is good for Blacks. Already the increase in the number of Blacks murdered, not to mention injured, is reaching levels unseen in decades. And there is every reason to assume, as police pull back from high-crime areas, it will get worse.

Take the left-wing mantra that all whites are racist. If I wanted to obstruct Black progress, and especially damage Black children, I couldn’t come up with a more effective idea. To believe from early childhood that you walk through life held in contempt by all of your fellow citizens who are white is to walk through life with much more than a chip on your shoulder. It is more like a heavy boulder.

It means that you will walk through life with two paralyzing burdens: anger and victimhood. Either one is enough to ruin your life. Combined they’re devastating. It gives one an idea of how cynical the left is that it would want to cultivate both of these life-ruining emotions in as many Blacks as possible.

Anger and victimhood not only ruin the individual’s life but also destroy one’s relationships with others. Everyone who has an angry individual in their family knows not only how unhappy that person is but also how much havoc they wreak on the rest of the family. The same holds true for the relative who sees him or herself as a perpetual victim. Such people are both miserable and miserable to be around. And since victimhood is a major cause of evil — people who see themselves as victims usually think they are not nearly as bound by moral rules as others are — they are more likely to hurt others.

The “protesters” who destroy and loot think their victim status allows them to destroy and loot. The man identified as the president of the greater New York Black Lives Matter, Hawk Newsome, recently told Fox News: “If this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it. All right? And I could be speaking … figuratively. I could be speaking literally. It’s a matter of interpretation.”

In a report yesterday on a police shooting of a robber who resisted arrest and reached for an object in his waistband, the San Diego Union-Tribune quoted a protest organizer: “If this young man was robbing, that means his state and his government failed to provide him with the resources he needs.” When you feel you are a victim, you are allowed to rob.

Take the constant, often absurd, charges of racism at the most benign comments. If you say, for example, that you see nothing wrong with the picture of Uncle Ben on a box of rice, you will be accused of racism. As a result, most whites understand they can no longer speak truthfully or from the heart in the presence of a Black American. It is hard to imagine a worse recipe for genuine relationships between the races. Whereas the great majority of whites, and even most Blacks, thought white-Black relations were good and improving when Barack Obama assumed office, a minority of both groups think so today.

Take the assault on merit-based advancement in the name of racial equality. Will this help or hinder Blacks? It will obviously help some Blacks in the short run. But over the long term, telling any group they needn’t meet a universal standard of excellence can only harm that group — not to mention harm the way their success will be viewed by others. Moreover, it is difficult to imagine a more condescending view of a group than to argue that standards must be lowered for them to succeed.

The damage the left is doing to America may be mortal. When it is widely deemed OK to destroy statues of Abraham Lincoln, society is experiencing a moral earthquake which may eventually destroy it. But the damage the left is doing to so many Blacks — to their moral compass, to their happiness and to their relations with their white fellow citizens — is not in the realm of “may do.” It is done.

Blacks have set back Blacks half a century.........
I'd say, quite a bit more than 50 years, actually.
The two groups can't live together. We tried that. One group ALWAYS takes advantage, and that group claims differing outcomes are NEVER their fault. We are not wired the same.

We are like two different species. I was never a Darwinist, but Darwin was right on one point: Two species can't occupy the same niche; one will end up dominating.

I am done trying to be nice about it, I am done caring about hurt feelings, and I am done worrying about the outcome for the few exceptions. Two separate nations, a wall, and NO foreign aid. (One can dream. I'm ready to find a new planet.)

I've always believed in equal opportunity for all based on merit not skin color. Now, my feelings have changed. The whole black race have shown their true colors, and I want them to just stay away from me and mine. I've lost all trust in any of them. Yeah, they've done it to themselves. They had their chance, and they blew it.

I couldn’t agree more. My wife and I discuss this a lot lately. They‘ve finally driven the racist wedge so deep it’s caused them any path to being believed they want to be equal to the rest of Americans. They don’t ... they want whites to pay with their future and lives if necessary. The black race war on whites is well developed and supported by the commi left & programmed white youths who submit to their new masters.

I’m a boomer ... there’s no way until the day I stop breathing I’ll submit to these racist turds.

Agreed, I could have said the day White explorers landed on the dark continent and first saw native Black tribal existence after having a 40,000 year head start on the rest of humanity without any encounter of the White race beforehand they were already set back in such a way that no feasible working model of civilization would be equally beneficial to each race.

"Contents of character" would be a legit equalizer for Blacks in a White society if it could have been exercised by them.........the fact that Blacks have reversed that process back to skin color for a retaliation game card of past grievances added to exceptions for the present and future demonstrates to me that beyond the talented 10% they lacked the ability to display "contents of character" to achieve the respect and integrity within society that all responsible citizens earn from their actions not their racial rhetoric.

Cary and I have had black friends in the past, even knowing they were Democrats. We no longer have anything to do with them, because we no longer trust them not to slit our throats if given a chance. Not that we've ever done anything to offend them. It's just that we're white. That's enough to make us their enemies according to them.

the statement assumes they made some progress in the last hundred years.
Some individuals perhaps, but as a group?
For the last fity years they have voted as a block
for the political party that refused to end slavery.
Man . . there is no way that can be defined as progress

What I find hilarious is the fact the blacks bitch and moan about the whites keeping them down and all and then let themselves be led by the whitest, oldest, most pandering of politicians. So, I guess the question is; These whites (pelosi, schumer, bernie) are ok with blm but not the other whites? Who's been keeping them on the new plantation? That's right! All these polls that have been in office for decades and more.

Their intent is not to change.....or to set back.....it is to erase history, and to install one-world Communist government under the UN. That is why they do not care about the Constitution, unless they can use it to further goals.

Very interesting you posted that.................it comes under heavy criticism by those it addresses as a low brow approval of a fake document. Yet everything outlined in it has significant accuracy.

A book that elicits equal issues to those whom it addresses is "the Synagogue of Satan" which can be found online to read for free these days....

......I leave it to the reader to draw their own conclusions based on what they read.

I was thinking more like 200 years. The current structures have to be undone to force a progression and too many are empowered to keep those in place to keep their power intact. I am just hoping we do not do what Argentina chose to do to solve a problem.

Yep, same here. When I realized recently that I could be attacked—either verbally or physically—just for saying “all lives matter,” then I knew it was over.

I used to work with blacks when we would make jokes on both sides, black jokes and white jokes. I remember one black gal I worked with that I really liked. She was funny, smart, and sweet, and she had told me her grandmother’s last name was White. I thought that was hilarious, so I sometimes joked and called her my White friend. She thought it was funny.

You think I could get away with a joke like that now? No way. In truth, I’m grateful I live in an all-white community, and no longer work with any blacks. Just me being white already pits me as “the enemy.” I wouldn’t have the time or desire to do all the thinking and egg-shell walking and careful wording required to ensure you don’t offend them or slip up by saying something now deemed inappropriate.

For example: about a month ago in a Zoom team meeting I was telling the story about how my husband and I loved to go exploring on the back wilderness roads of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I was talking about how treacherous some of those roads were, and said, “A few times we had careened through a big puddle or flew over an unexpected hill like we were the General Lee from Dukes of Hazard.”

And one gal (liberal feminist who had an LGBQT rainbow thing as her Zoom background) replied, “Well... I wouldn’t know. I never watched that racist, bigoted TV show.”

Awkward silence followed my story. I stopped sharing things after that. You never know what kind of things might come out of your mouth that’ll get you in trouble.

On The Level
In my 50's now. I recall as a boy in the 1970's and 80's how we had to treat blacks special and tip toe around their self esteem. Now it's 40 or 50 years later and look at them. They haven't done crap other than sponge and mooch and create a class of wealthy liberal handlers that tell them how to feel and to blame White people for everything. I'm not spending my last few decades, if I have that many, pandering or even dealing with blacks. I don't want to be around any of them. I don't want to see them on my screens. I don't care what they think. Even the supposed good ones that support Trump and the Constitution.

when one considers all of the concessions given to "blacks" since 1964, they as a group should literally own America.
literally . . . own

instead they continue to portray that they are owed. in their calculations of "reparations" no credits are provided for assistance received through the "equal rights act. they are owed 14 trillion.

the fact is, they believe they are owed because the government has convinced them they are owed
which can be proven by the fact that the government has been giving them concessions.

if they were not owed something, the government would not have been paying all of these years.
once you establish this,
IF they are owed something
AND they have not been "made whole"
THEN you owe more

In order to believe otherwise requires you to firmly grasp the idea that all men are not equal, all lives do not matter, and that man has no inalienable rights other than doing what is necessary to survive.

Are we there yet.

I can relate to that. I have told the story before. The family sold one of the rentals to the tenant who were black.

All was great until the last 12 months. At that point they got the idea, (from others most likely) that we were screwing them and that I needed to sign everything over right away as they had already paid for it over the years of renting.

Things began to get hostile on their part and though no physical threats were made, it was close. I expect one reason no physical was due to me carrying a gun all the time.

What settled it was me simply telling them if they failed to pay and pay as was indicated by the contract, I would be more than happy to put them on the street and sell the place the next day for the same money.

Things settled down, they paid in full and we pushed the paperwork through so they could get title. No issue on our part. We upheld everything we said we would do.

To this day, they are no longer friendly. In fact downright hostile in many cases when I needed to stop by and verify all is good. Part of the due deligence on our part.

What were the terms?

2% over 4 years, part of the payment would go to taxes and insurance and the rest was 100% to pay for the house. Their payment changed only $80 per month. We even wrote off the $300 in rent they were behind.

So in essence they were buying a house for $80 per month over 4 years.

Somehow we screwed them.

I agree! I never considered myself racist at all, even though I didn't see many blacks when growing up in northern Minnesota. But I was neighbors with plenty of "Indian" families and played with their kids. We had the most fun with them!

But now, with the way the blacks have been and are acting, I don't trust them, I don't like them. They have ruined their race, in my eyes, and I do my best to not have anything to do with any of them. Like SB said, they had their chance and they blew it. Even if they weren't actively participating in this BLM sh*t, they (other than a few) also weren't actively speaking out against it.
