Actually, temperature wise, this has been quite a mild winter where I am in north central Arkansas. The GSM difference in this area is that it is cloudy far more than half of the time now, and just when it seems the rain is over and we might get some sun, here comes another batch of rain! And even when the temp is mild and it doesn't rain, there is more often than not a wind out of the NNW that is icy...bone-chilling, even when one stays in the sun.

Oh, get that. It seems like, say, those of us down in Texas get a real mild winter, while north of us gets absolutely hammered, so the AGCC cultists average things and says "warmer than evah"! But it isn't always the average, it's often the delta of magnitude between regions that matters. And that's just talking about America. Looking at Europe right now, that's the hammer of Thor coming down.

I can't remember the last time a winter in Michigan was this mild. It's been unfathomable. Sure, the occasional 60-70 degree Christmas has been seen, but we had a cold November, a warm December, a wet January and now a February that looks a lot like March.

It has been a very warm winter here in the Midwest where I am. We had our windows open almost every day from Thanksgiving until after New Year's. Super Bowl, we spent a few hours playing with our kids outside, no jackets needed. Very unusual.

Extremely low pressure brought down air traffic over northern Norway Airline company Widerøe has in its almost 90 year history never experienced this kind of weather.

The past months have seen extraordinarily rough weather along the north Norwegian coast. Early this week came another extreme. The air pressure dropped to a level not seen in several decades.

According to the Norwegian meteorological institute, the air pressure across major parts of the region was below 940 hectopascal, a level that makes flying unsafe.

The Widerøe company that serves most of the regional routes put almost its whole aircraft fleet on the ground.

«Our smallest aircraft type Dash 100, 200 and 300 can not fly with pressure lower than 948 hectopascal,» the company informs on it Facebook page.

More than 2,000 passengers were affected by the weather conditions. Only on Tuesday afternoon did the pressure return to a level that allows aircraft to operate normally.

The low pressure also resulted in high waters levels along the Norwegian coast. In Tromsø, the north Norwegian town, the sea water was on Tuesday 354 cm higher than normal, the Meteorological Institute informs.

Comment: It was only a few weeks ago, on 20th January, that parts of Europe saw the highest atmospheric pressure readings ever recorded.

I like the longer podcasts when they are the ones I can just listen to. That way I can do other things that require I look at what I'm doing. Back when I was getting streaming audio programs on my computer I got tons of knitting, hand sewing and mending done. Can't do that when the video is an important part of the message.

Right now I have two 5-gallon pails of pecans to shell and I would very much like to have something good to listen every day to while doing that project. Same with the winter knitting projects that I've barely started on.

I would love to have a machine that could scan and read books to me. I think there might be such a thing for blind people, but I'm sure it would cost far more than I could manage.

OH!!! Just remembered! This has to do with the GSM. Sort of, as it's about my greenhouse. I checked and the Lowe's here carries that clear polycarbonate paneling that comes in panels like fiberglass and steel roofing. It costs over twice what the fiberglass costs, but is totally transparent. I'd need 20 panels plus screws and maybe other things and I'd have to find someone to install them for me. It would be so wonderful to not have to worry about mending leaks in the roof of my greenhouse ever again! Anyway, I'll need to give this a ton of thought and see if I can find someone to do the job. Used to be I'd do this sort of thing all by myself, but those days are sadly over.

northern watch, audio books can have a lot left out of them so they don't take hours to days to read aloud. I would want to hear the complete books, so would need the scanner/speaker thingy, if indeed such a contraption actually exists.

If I'd listen to it while knitting or sewing, I supposed I'd need a foot pedal for pause, rewind, start and stop, turn page forward or backward, all sorts of things.

Actually, when I do such projects, I'm often happy to just listen to the quiet and to my own thoughts.

Adapt 2030, the guy just move from Taiwan back to the US. so I imagine he's pretty busy finding a new home and getting settled. He's put out a couple of rushed small videos, but nothing we don't already know from elsewhere.

Ever seen a ghostly rainbow halo around the Sun?

A Sun halo is caused by the refraction, reflection, and dispersion of light through ice particles suspended within thin, wispy, high altitude cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. As light passes through these hexagon-shaped ice crystals, it is bent at a 22° angle, creating a circular halo around the Sun. The prism effect of light passing through these six-sided ice crystals also separates the light into its various color frequencies, making the halo look like a very pale rainbow, with red on the inside and blue on the outside.

Folklore tells us Sun halos can predict the weather:

A ring around the Sun or Moon
means rain or snow is coming soon.

Occasionally, brighter areas will form along these halos, creating a mock Sun, or “sundog.” Sundogs are known as parhelia (or the singular parhelion) to astronomers, from the Greek words meaning “beside the Sun.”

His MIACs (Mini Ice Age Conversations) were numbered and of medium duration. He had a different series at the same time (don't know if it had a title) and they also were numbered, much higher numbers, and were much shorter and generally seemed to stick more to a single topic than the MIAC ones.

I'd like to see him get back to his older style, but whether he does or not, it will be nice if he gets back to doing his podcasts more regularly.
