ECON The average price of regular gas has climbed to $4.55 per gallon - 5/20/2026

Gas still holding at about 389 outside of savannah GA but most prices are between 409 and 419 on my way back up the east coast. Filling up in Morehead city NC tomorrow for the next leg back, we'll see what it is. Non ethanol gas is around 5 bucks. diesel is well over 6 at most gas stations that I've driven by so far

In my general area it is +/- 10 cents of $3.99.

We have to drive all the way up into Fort Worth today. I'm dreading the traffic, and having to feed the beast (Durango) for the trip.

I've been putting off topping off the truck. It's just below half, and diesel is sitting right at $5.50. I'm glad I topped off the motor home last month, although I cried at the $168 receipt.

$4.19 a gallon in south of Wichita, It’s been a long time since I saw it this high.
I’m retired so I don’t really travel much anymore, maybe 50 miles a week

New QT opened this week in South Austin advertising E15 on the street sign now, first I've seen in Texas. It was about 30 cents cheaper at 3.54 a gallon.

Yesterday, $5.99/gal regular. Diesel was $7.69/gal up here on the mountain in SoCal. I hear that gas in L.A. is even higher. Over $6 pushing towards $7/gal regular and $9.99/gal Diesel.

One of the reasons gas is so high here in California is all the taxes "THEY" have added and the PUSH to force everyone to convert over to EV vehicles. Which is STUPID because we don't have the electrical grid to support that.

What people don't realize is that the final fuel, electricity, will rise sharply. Takes more time than gas/diesel pumps, but trust me, it will be around the corner soon than most think.

One big item I notice with electricity, is that once the price goes up, it never goes down like the gas/diesel pump.

On top of that, many states are looking to add additional road use taxes on EVs. So on top of high electric prices and road use taxes, EVs will be on the same playing field as conventional vehicles if not more expensive.

Owner says the current gas price where he buys is $4.39. There are a couple of more "discount" places that offer $4.29, but for him they're out of the way.

And a couple of "Name Brand" stores (Exxon) that are $4.49. But these are at the "busy" corner in town.

Owner does have his 50 gallons out in the grey shed (10 -5 gallon jugs) but these are being saved for a "supply interruption."

And feeding the push-mower, log-splitter, snowblower, leaf blower, chipper/shredder.

I note there is quite a bit of "technology reliance" in all of these. Owner USED to hand cut (crosscut) and hand split (wedges/maul) all his firewood, but now he realizes he's "time short" (not to mention beyond retirement age) and the machines DO make it easier - and perhaps possible for him.

Local On Cue Phillips 66- $4.17, Walmart 3.79- On Cue across the street from Walmart 3.79-usually those two lag behind on price increases. North central Oklahoma.

Filled with regular Shell this afternoon at 4.0202/gallon. Thank you Lord for my wee Honda Civic that only needed 8.4 gallons. That was over two months. lol. I don’t go anywhere except the grocery every two weeks because if I go out I spend $. I don’t have $. (I gave it all to my dentist.)

I saw $4.01 here for the first time last night. Shell. :gaah:

I also saw on Facebook that Gov. Kemp is going to suspend the gas tax. I’m guessing that will happen on October 1.

Supposed to have gone into effect today.
I will see if I can find more on this.

Line for Costco fuel is starting to wrap around to parking lot as fuel prices spike in Florida.

You know how cheap Costco fuel is? But, you have to be a member to get it. People usually do their shopping and then fill up. I've never known any local Costco fuel stores not to have a line and on Fri-Sun the lines are completely ridiculous. Then again, so are the lines inside the warehouse club. The SAMs that have fuel pumps are the same way and so are the interior of the warehouse stores. Crazy. People complain and complain yet they still spend and spend.

My question, do they really save that much, waiting in an extended line, to get gas? Is it worth it to save a buck or two a fillup?

Saw an interesting chart on gas prices, that goes back to the Obama years. Seems gas prices floated between $3.50 and $4.00 for multiple years, back in 2011 - 2014. And I would argue, money was tighter back then, and people weren't earning as much...

I am old enough to have pumped gas for customers at $0.15 cents per gallon. $0.17 for premium. Diesel was free.
Ecstatic to find it at $5.10 a gallon here 20 miles from where I grew up.
Even happier to announce diesel at $6.70 per since I have two diesel trucks to keep full.

I remember those days too. I felt lucky to earn a dollar to put in my 1954 Pontiac. Plus they gave away glasses and towells and stuff.

Now that Kemp's gas tax suspension is kicking in, gas has dropped from 4.19 to 3.83 here in GA.

And is supposed to go down further as the current supplies (bought at the old, higher level) are sold out, and the newer supplies (on which no gas tax has had to be paid) comes in to the stations. (per WSB radio).

Only one of our Costco stores that we use has non ethanol gas. When in that town, thats where we get gas, because we can.

Other wise coming home from the other direction, other Costco, they don’t have non ethanol, so we stop at the last gas station that has non ethanol that is closest to us and top off. Maybe I could save 10 cents a gallon driving around looking but do I?
No. Its the difference of a cup of coffee.
.10 cents on a 30 gallon tank is $3.00

Once my one gas pickup is gone I will replace it with a diesel truck.
