Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday issued another executive order cracking down on COVID-19 vaccine mandates — this time banning any entity in Texas, including private businesses, from requiring vaccinations for employees or customers.
Abbott also called on the Legislature to pass a law with the same effect. The Legislature is in its third special legislative session, which ends Oct. 19.

COVID-19 vaccine requirements by government agencies, cities, counties and school districts were already banned by a previous executive order — which is currently being fought in court by the San Antonio Independent School District. The Legislature also already passed into law a ban on so-called vaccine passports — which would allow businesses to require proof of vaccination to receive service. However, Texas had up to this point allowed private businesses to require vaccines of their own employees.
The latest move appears to be partly motivated by President Joe Biden's actions in September that require all employers with more than 100 workers to mandate vaccines for workers or test weekly for the virus. Biden also required all federal government workers and contractors to get vaccinated, leading nearly all the major airlines — including American Airlines and Southwest Airlines headquartered in Texas — to announce they'd abide by the mandate.
"In yet another instance of federal government overreach, the Biden Administration is now bullying many private entities into imposing COVID-19 vaccine mandates, causing workforce disruptions that threaten Texas's continued recovery from the COVID-19 disaster," Abbott said in his order.
About 52% of Texans are fully vaccinated. Abbott was vaccinated on TV and has previously advocated for people to get the shot. But in recent months — as the delta variant caused another upswing in cases and hospitalizations — he has concentrated his political capital toward fighting vaccine and mask mandates from local school districts and governments.

I’ve read the executive order. My question is, does this cover federal contractors in Texas?
We've been discussing that very question here in our house. It should be interesting and anyone who knows contract law should have a good idea.

We worked with a number of DoD contractors at Ft Sam, and the contract company was home-based in Texas. The employees are technically employed by the contracting company, not the Fed, but the Fed pays the contract. It may depend on how the original contract reads. The Fed may decide to cancel the contract if they will not enforce the vaccine requirement. It's going to be interesting.

I'm glad he took a stand on this - no pun intended. Someone had to do something to stop the madness. I hope more governors follow suit. We need more leaders like governor Abbott. I think I may move back to Texas.

Most likely not. Take Southwest Airlines as an example. They are a private company but fall under federal mandates because of the contract work they do for the feds. Buddy of mine is a captain with them and he said they only reason corporate went along with the mandate was because the bidet admin told them if they did not go along that they would lose their federal contracts which are big money.

Greg Abbott Defies Joe Biden and Throws Southwest Airlines a Lifeline

By Bonchie | Oct 11, 2021 8:45 PM ET

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has made another move against nonsensical COVID policies. Today, he signed an executive order banning vaccine mandates by any entity in the state. This would hit corporations that have begun to follow federal guidelines to mandate vaccines for all their employees. And though an official rule from OSHA has yet to materialize as threatened, Abbott’s move is in direct defiance of Joe Biden.

This comes in the midst of a meltdown happening at Southwest Airlines over a coming vaccine mandate in November. Reports continue to indicate that employees of the Texas-based air carrier are using sick days in anticipation of being fired for not conforming to the mandate. That has left thousands of flights canceled over the last several days, and while Southwest Airlines has blamed weather and ATC issues, those “issues” have not affected any other airline. Clearly, the issue is internal.

Given that, perhaps this move by Abbott is actually a lifeline worked out via back channels? Southwest Airlines, which has already faced a lawsuit over the mandate, can now claim their hands are tied and lift the requirements. That gets air and maintenance crews back to work — while allowing the airline to somewhat save face for its terrible decision to follow Joe Biden’s lead.

We’ll have to wait and see how this shakes out. Southwest Airlines could decide to simply ignore the directive or to fight it in court, at which point their position would be clearly staked and the fight would escalate. They’d certainly pay a large consumer and employee price for such a move, but if they want to be that stupid, it’s their company. I doubt they go that route, though.

For Abbott’s part, Republican governors continue to lead the fight against COVID tyranny. Without them holding the line, who knows where we’d be as a nation. These mandates are ridiculous from a standpoint of liberty but are also completely unnecessary from a scientific standpoint. Everyone spreads COVID. There is no need to “protect” vaccinated employees from their unvaccinated counterparts via force.

Abbott’s order is already eliciting gnashing of teeth from the left, and that’s as good a sign as any that it was the right move.

I have a great deal of respect for Gov. Abbot. He really seems to be trying to do the best for his citizens. Sure hope our governor joins him. So far Gov. Parson has done well by us and has been standing up for our rights (second amendment and otherwise).

Did he have any sway with Abbot?

LoL... duplicate thread. Although the other one had no responses, I guess they should be merged? Mods feel free to merge, lock, or delete the other one based on what ever you think.

I would think not based on precedence, unfortunately. As an example the concealed handgun state laws had no authority to override the ban of firearms on federal property which is why you can carry a firearm into a bank but not into USPS. So I would think that a state EO (or eventually a state law) would not have the authority to ban it.

I have no problem with people who do not try to change Texas into the next Liberal utopia. Who are not commies in disguise (or drag). Or people who come here for the handouts. Unfortuantely, I do not control who can come here. If Abbott stands firm, Texas is going to become a sucking black hole that will make Ron Paul's big sucking sound seem tame in comparison.

If this goes hot/kinetic/spicy/pear shaped (who comes up with these stupid terms, anyway?) we will need to raise an army and an Air Force. And M.A.S.H. units. Sigh. And many old dogs to teach and equip for what is just over there, over the horizon. We already have the start, but it will need to be much bigger. The factories will have to be up and running again and make all sorts of useful needful things.

We will need new people who are genuinely interested in Texas History, because in order for you to fight, you have to Know exactly what you are fighting for.

If you are serious about moving here, know that your retirement will not be as you had planned and you will be called to Stand at some time in the near future. Choose your piece of ground wisely and make certain you are in a county with a Constitutional Sheriff. It matters.

Now, start packin'. :chg:

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…
As my old friend used to say when someone flew back into Texas from another state... "Welcome back to Texas, here's your gun."

A few years ago my son was driving down from WI for the holidays and had his guns locked in cases in the back of his 4Runner.

He got pulled over late on a Saturday night just south of the Winstar. As a former MP, he knew the trooper was looking for drunks. While he was tired and looking like he’d been driving for 13 hours he wasn’t drunk.

A short conversation with the trooper resulted in a bit of advice to “slow it down a bit” and that “once you cross the Red River your in Texas and your guns won’t do you no good locked up in the back.”

Southwest To Comply With Biden Vaccine Order, Ignore Texas Ban | ZeroHedge

Southwest To Comply With Biden Vaccine Order, Ignore Texas Ban

BY TYLER DURDEN

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines will ignore a Texas Executive Order prohibiting any entity from imposing Covid-19 vaccine mandates on employees or customers.

Instead, the beleaguered airline will comply with a yet-to-be issued Biden federal mandate which requires that government employees and contractors get vaccinated, according to CEO Gary Kelly in a Tuesday interview with CNBC.

"I’ve never been in favor of corporations imposing that kind of a mandate. I’m not in favor that. Never have been," Kelly told "Squawk on the Street," adding "But the executive order from President Biden mandates that all federal employees and then all federal contractors, which covers all the major airlines, have to have a [vaccine] mandate ... in place by December the 8th, so we’re working through that."

In addition to federal workers and contractors, President Biden announced a mandate last month which requires companies with 100 or more employees to ensure that their workforce is vaccinated or tested regularly. The Labor Department has yet to release details of the emergency rule, however Biden encouraged companies to 'act now' and not to wait for the requirement to go into effect.

In response, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Monday which prohibits any entity - including private businesses, from imposing vaccine mandates on either employees or customers.

"The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and our best defense against the virus, but should remain voluntary and never forced," said Abbott in a statement. The rule follows several executive orders Abbott issued over the summer banning local governments and school districts from mask or vaccination mandates - with $1,000 fines for those who fail to comply.

Last week, Southwest announced that its 56,000-person workforce would need to be fully vaccinated with the Covid-19 jab by Dec. 8 in order to remain employed - an announcement which came days after other carriers (including American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue Airways) announced similar measures, according to CNBC.

Doubling down on the airline's claim that widespread flight disruptions over the past four days weren't related to an employee protest over the mandate, Kelly blamed "absenteeism" - which, we're quite frankly

We can't believe CNBC didn't ask Kelly, if that's true, where this flag came from.

Cave, is my guess.

Either way you're tax free

:eleph:
We will be retired, but plan on having a few rental homes as investments. So there will be some income. With savings accounts paying basically zero, even a small profit on a rental property is good. I have no idea what kind of taxes there will be, still researching. Looking into KY and NC as well, but Tyler, TX and Cordova (Memphis), TN are at the top of the list

Cave, is my guess.

They won’t say no. They are driven by money. Look at the article that was posted on main about southwest complying. For what? 2% of their revenue. That’s what they get from government contracts. And American Airlines will go along also. So will delta. They are full woke.

And people keep buying tickets and supporting all these companies that support stripping our freedom. “Conservatives “ just keep doing it. What we should be doing is buycotting all of these companies. But the majority will not nut up because they have to have their vacation, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, Kroger, black rifle coffee, etc.

As long as we support these companies there will be no change in the direction that we are going. And until people are willing to make sacrifices and only support companies that support freedom, well nothing is going to change. We are supporting the enemy. And supporting theses companies is giving consent to the commie values that they have and donate your money to.

I will attach a link that lists conservative alternatives below. I have implemented this in my buying. This is only one step in the solution.
