Tech] PayPal Phishing

I used PayPal to pay for something on ebay about 2 weeks ago. Starting day before yesterday, I started getting messages from "PayPal" claiming unusual activity in my account , so I should respond immediately etc etc or my account will be locked eternally on Dec 1 etc etc.

I could care less if it is locked.

But is there anything going on here?

I had the same thing happen after I submitted my TB2K donation. I've gotten tons of email the weeks following this payment. I didn't respond and it finally stopped.

HA! It was PayPal!

I got so many messages I started thinking of them as Pen Pals.

Geez.

Yes, the PayPal phishing schemes are fast and furious. After all, that's where the money is.

Now, what I really want to know is how they found out that PayPal and I were such close friends.

I run Spybot and Adaware quite often.

Apparently, I need to do more?

I've noticed an increase in the number of phishing e-mails from "PayPal" in the last couple of weeks, and some of them are better quality than usual. Out of the millions of people these e-mails get sent to, some of them are bound to have recent activity in their account.

So the fact that you got one of these shortly after using your account is just a coincidence.

Thanks for the response.

I shall now continue on in my quest for inner peace.

I can't be fooled by paypal because I absolutely do not, and will not use it, not now, not ever, period. . (or any other online payment thing)

There are still too many holes out there for a person to trust even a penny of their hard earned money on line.

Cash, check or money order only...and depending.

If it isn't in there, it can't be stolen.

Trojan virus on paypal email link

If you click on link in email you received, you will get a nasty Trojan virus... I have reported trojan to AOL and Ebay today... McAfree gets rid of it! :shkr:
