It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
The movie mix comes from youtube and archive.org. That will continue for the future.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
Click on an individual movie poster to see it full size.
The movie trailers are located in post #8.

Enjoy the Show!

If you like Pink Panther movies, here's a link to the first six:
PLAY - TB2K Pink Panther Movies - The PP 1963, A Shot in the Dark 1964, Return of the PP 1975, PP Strikes Again 1976, Revenge of PP 1978, Trail of PP 1982

The first movie is 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. This 2016 Michael Bay film is about the 2012 attack on a secret US embassy located in Benghazi, Libya. This is a good, gritty film and a personal favorite.

Libya, 2012. At an unofficial CIA base in Benghazi, a group of 6 ex-military contractors are providing security. In the aftermath of Gaddafi's downfall, a power vacuum exists and the climate is volatile. Looted Libyan military weapons are freely available and the subject of the CIA presence. The US Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, makes a visit to the area and stays in a compound near the CIA base. On the night of 11 September, 2012, the Ambassador's compound is attacked by hordes of heavily armed locals. The only forces willing and able to defend it and the CIA base are the six military contractors.

13 Hours: Benghazi movie link <<<----- click the link to play, (this one is different; they put 5 movies in one spot) click the #2 movie in the list as shown in the pic below. It should start playing automatically, then you expand it to full screen. If the movie does not start, and a start arrow is shown after selecting the #2 video, click it then expand. If you can't get it to play after several tries, post in this thread and I have another link that is easier to start, but slightly lower quality video.

This film also has an MKV link that is quite a bit larger (higher quality), BUT it will only play on media players that support .mkv files such as the free VLC media player (my choice). If you don't recognize .mkv format, just use the normal download link and the quality of that is still good. On this MKV download file, it has 2 audio tracks. The first audio track is Spanish and the second is English so you will likely have to change from Spanish to English audio. You may have to turn off subtitles as well. It's worth the effort, the mkv link is a high quality video.

The second movie is Where Eagles Dare. This 1968 WW2 thriller stars Clint Eastwood, Richard Burton, and Mary Ure. This is a high quality video with great views of the Alps. This is based on Alister MacLean's novel and it's quite an adventure!

Allied Agents stage a daring raid on a castle in the Alps where the Nazis are holding American Brigadier General George Carnaby prisoner, but that's not all that's really going on.

The third film is The Buddy Holly Story. This 1978 movie stars Gary Busey. This is also a high quality video; searching for movies went very well in the last week.

The story of the life and career of the early rock and roll singer, from his meteoric rise to stardom, to his marriage and untimely death.

The sixth movie is Vengeance Valley. This 1951 western stars Burt Lancaster, John Ireland, Robert Walker, and Hugh O'Brian.

A cattle baron takes in an orphaned boy and raises him, causing his own son to resent the boy. As they get older the resentment festers into hatred, and eventually the real son frames his stepbrother for fathering an illegitimate child that is actually his. Is it an opportunity to get his half-brother out of the way so he can have his father's empire all to himself?

- The sons of a Colorado cattle baron, one biological and the other adopted, resent one another and fight for control of their father's cattle empire.

The second movie is Where Eagles Dare. This 1968 WW2 thriller stars Clint Eastwood, Richard Burton, and Mary Ure. This is a high quality video with great views of the Alps. This is based on Alister McClain's novel and it's quite an adventure!

It's Alistair MacLean, as I recall. He did his best work in his first books - South by Java Head, Fear is the Key, Guns of Navarone. Then he had the formula and just cranked them out. Later, various ghost-writers put out books as Alasdair McLean, Alistair McLean, etc, etc, etc. Became pathetic at the end. This movie was pretty good.

EDIT: The one spelling error has been corrected in post #3. I looked up the correct name spelling. Please drop this.

1911, I have the vague impression that you're trying to tell me you changed the spelling in #3. Correct me if that's wrong. I thought initially you were telling me you altered something in the part of my #10 that you quoted in #11, and I couldn't see where you'd edited it.

Neverthehowtheless, the spelling in #3 is wrong, and the gist is in #10. There are half a dozen ghost writers out there trying to milk the legacy of the Guns-Of-Navarone-Maclean for all they're worth.

I wouldn't dare watch anything bout Benghazi yet, even if i had the internet skillz to do so. Still infuriates me that it happens, and my BP is in enough trouble
Thanks- as always I appreciate the work, and the links, and look forward to the day I can watch em!

I bought the DVD and it was months before I could bring myself to watch it. I'm glad I finally did. It was an excellent movie.

This is what I use/do:

For youtube downloads on a windows PC, I've been using this one with no issues: Youtube Downloader HD - Free Youtube Video Downloader

Anything from archive.org has download options on the right side of any page. I just pick the .mp4 file and provide an easy direct link to it for the movie threads. On the rare occasion there is another, often .mkv, higher-quality download option, I'll usually add a link for it as well like 13 Hours this week.

For other sites, I use an add-on that works with firefox, but it's intrusive, especially on youtube so I never use it there. I leave it disabled unless there is no other download option and I really, really want to save something. It's called Video DownloadHelper. Use at your own risk, it is intrusive, but it has helped grab videos I was not able to get otherwise.

13 Hours is a good, but tough movie at times. It was filmed to make a clear record of what happened and who was abandoned in Benghazi. Anything by Michael Bay is almost a 100% chance I'll watch.

Michael Bay - IMDb

Another good director is Michael Mann. He likes 1911 style pistols :) Watch Blackhat (2015) to see evidence of that. Oh, and his movies are good as well.

The timing of this movie release in early 2016 may have had a small influence on the 2016 election involving a certain Clinton.

She was Secretary of State when the Benghazi attack happened (and did nothing helpful) and a 2016 presidential candidate when the movie was released....
