EBOLA Take a deep breath - enjoy your weekend (Ebola)

No... I'm not a government stooge, just thought I would address that before the predictable attack starts.

Some know my background, others don't, but we'll just stick with "I deal with information" for now. Lets look at the information and then sit back and take a breath... At least try to enjoy one weekend.

The First Fact: Ebola has made it into the U.S. Mainland and has caused at least one death recently.

Second Fact: Two nurses are being treated for infection by Ebola... Current status unknown. They are being treated in facilities that are among the safest and best in the nation for something this serious.

Third Fact: The second nurse acted selfishly and flew to Cleveland even though there was a fair risk she could catch Ebola and possibly spread it to others.

Fourth Fact: There is a lab worker from Texas that handled samples from Thomas Duncan currently quarantined on a cruise ship. Facts are unknown on whether she is symptomatic at this time.

Fifth Fact: Around a thousand people are currently being "monitored" to see if they develop symptoms after being exposed to the current known cases of infected Ebola patients.

Sixth Fact: People are panicking and posting every tidbit of information they can find on Ebola across social media, forum sites and blogs all over the Internet. This information is then packaged up and re-posted, sometimes with facts changed. There are thousands of people posting cryptic messages all over the place, claiming to be in the know!

Now! Lets step back and look at the big picture. How do we separate fiction from fact? How do we get to the REAL truth and figure out how to deal with this mess? How do we safely approach this entire subject while not having knee jerk reactions on one hand and not getting caught flat footed and unprepared on the other hand?

It is far past time to get ourselves pulled together so we can make rational and informed decisions pertaining to this apparent outbreak of EBOLA. "Get a hold of yourself man"!

The one thing that keeps coming back around in my research and polling my contacts is... People are behaving irrationally based on the true available facts on hand. People that usually nay say anything from an unreliable source are jumping up and down screaming FIRE in the theater without being able to confirm anything.

I think people are giving this jacked up Government far more credit than they deserve. On one hand they are saying that the Administration is inept in it's handling of Ebola and every other crisis they have touched, but they firmly believe in their minds that the same inept government could quiet every news agency on the planet overnight... Oxy moron I think!

The people that have the most to gain from wholesale Conservative Panic is the current administration and the useless Democrats seeking to keep this fast track
decimation of the Constitution alive. It is a proven fact that Democrats vote in reduced numbers in the mid-term elections, and if a bunch of conservative voters stay home because of the rumored outbreak.... Well that helps keep the numbers even.

What if it is about the election? Why is Obama waiting until after the election to provide amnesty to all the illegals? I submit to you that it is because he currently doesn't face any real possibility of punishment if the senate is divided, but he faces the real possibility if the opposite party controls both houses.

Many will say elections don't matter anyway. That just proves that Psyops work. If you repeat something enough times, you'll begin to believe it. Maybe they don't matter as much as they used to, but they still have some level of importance even this late in the game. For the record, I myself see very little difference in the major parties... But there still are individuals that show promise. I don't want to explain to my great grandchildren that I was part of the generation that gave up hope and cost them their chance at a free future!

Back to Ebola... Where are the facts that support this widespread panic... Are we all really sitting here waiting for the MSM to produce the truth? Have we fallen so far that we believe they ever will? Just a couple weeks ago the majority of the membership of this and other forums didn't trust the MSM as far as we could throw them.. Now we are waiting on confirmation from them?

Look to your real news sources... Do you know college students and University Medical Centers students, do you know members of the National Guard, do you know local nurses, doctors, lab workers, maintenance workers at hospitals, police officers, drug reps, medical assistants, pilots, stewardesses, air port baggage handlers, local tv station or local radio station employees or a host of other local people that are reliable?

I don't believe for one minute that the U.S. Screwed Up Government could control the truth in something this big for very long. No matter where things happen, there are always local people that know the truth... Good people still exist everywhere!

If this thing was as widespread as the forum posts indicate we'd all being hearing stories locally, rumors circulating locally, people talking first hand about what they know. The problem I have is the cryptic messages we are receiving are third and fourth person reporting.. "My next door neighbors, best friends, aunts, boyfriends, brothers, long distance pen pal said...." Know what I mean?

Is Ebola spreading? Yes I think it is.... Is it out of hand and being covered up everywhere you can't look... Nope, the facts don't support that.... YET!

I'm not saying I'm not preparing for the worst, because I am, but I am not shut in my bunker breathing filtered air either. I'm just watching and separating the truth from the fiction... I think right now there are a lot of people looking for 10 seconds of fame in the spotlight... not caring what people think later.... Besides, there is always the "WOW.... I thought the guy was telling the truth, I was just repeating what he said", defense...

Take a breath, enjoy your week-end with your families.... If this all comes true down the road, you'll be glad you backed off and showed love to those that were important to you.

Godspeed to all!

I'm slowly going into 'I don't care anymore' mode...nothing I can do outside of plan and prepare for the worst...enjoy life, family and friends, and if I should get it, deal with it at that time. Life is too short to be worrying about something what might not happen. God knows I love Him, and am ready to go when called.

Amen! God has a plan and it is in action today! Praise him for his Glory.

I plan on living each day .... 1 at a time. Stock up, do what I can to be prepared. Glocked, cocked & ready to rock if need be.

It is spreading (seemingly exponentially)

Is it out of hand? Not until it affects me I guess

Is it being covered up? It sure seems to be

Kathy in WV

Down on the Farm...
Greetings my fellow Mountaineer! Sitting in my little area of WV also. There is no hair on fire here either, whatever happens is in Gods hands not mine. Doesn't mean I want to run right out and get coughed on but not hiding out either. We are staying home a lot, but I was doing that to protect my youngest from exposure to Enterovirus 68. With his lungs that would be certain hospital time.

While not hiding out, I do believe we have a real and looming problem. Theres so much apathy among most people. As long as they can shop and go out for dinner, they can't be bothered to look ahead. Whether its Ebola or flu or TB... eventually theres going to be an epidemic/pandemic hit the world again. Ignoring reality for one more day of "normalcy" is going to be most folks downfall. I don't know how so many people can have such blind faith, and allow others to do their thinking for them. And self serving entitlement? Re: the nurse going to Ohio to wedding shop, or the other gal going for takeout food? SMH

So right Kathy... Overreacting and Under-reacting both reach the same goal... The self centered, self serving will be what brings this all down on our heads I'm afraid. God promised pestilence so we know it's coming... But then again so is he!

One more day of normal and bunkering down is separated by such a thin line. You won't find me at Mountaineer Field, the mall or many other crowded places anymore, but living a day on the farm, running new fence, grabbing some supplies at the feed store and visiting with my country neighbors is all still possible, t least for now.

Very nice post!

The biggest problem with this whole ebola scenario as I see it is... 21 day incubation (which likely will end up being doubled) is a long time to be on guard, to hold your breath. There will be more cases coming to pass as the days are counted down in each of the three week periods (per exposed victim). Being 'on guard' is a protective state of mind and as humans, that's where we go to get ready for the next punch. When we do let down our guard, we're tired, even exhausted, and safety is in sleep, or the first mound of sand in which we can bury our heads, even for a little while.

That's the problem with so many folks, there seems to be only 'hair on fire' or 'head in the sand.'

We need to take three deep slow breaths, and find the middle of the road. It's not TEOTWAWKI with each new case, and just because there isn't news, doesn't mean it's over. Measured reactions, and we'll likely get through this.

The only part of the first post that raised my brow was that the news can't be covered up by the PTB. There are many reasons they would want it to be covered up, the biggest one being the election, as was stated. I truly hope it is true that the good folks will come forward to state the facts even if they were told to be quiet. Like that doctor during the first briefing last Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. EST who was pulled from the podium, even though he appeared to have more to say.

Thanks for the insightful post.

"Third Fact: The second nurse acted selfishly and flew to Cleveland even though there was a fair risk she could catch Ebola and possibly spread it to others."

Apparently she acted very responsibly, by asking the CDC for their advice, and their advice was "go".

You can't pussy foot around with something as serious as Ebola.

That would be like being attacked with biological weapons during the Cold War, and saying "Oh, those Russians, they are so naughty, let's send them some Jack Daniels to see if it lightens them up. Everybody else, carry on as usual".

Right?

You do NOT let biological warfare grade bugs out of a laboratory in a lackadaisical fashion.

Right?

Ebola is a biological warfare grade bug, and you should be treating it ACCORDINGLY. You do not hope for the best and prepare for the worst in such circumstances. They are the worst, and you hit the ground running with all the proper methods and equipment right from the start, and you keep everybody informed of precisely what is happening, so that you can contain the risk to the maximum extent possible. then systematically eradicate it. Which is not what has happened, and nobody can pretend that has happened.

There are no adults in the room in Washington, there are no adults in the room at the CDC (insisting on level 2 protection for level 4 risk says they are not qualified for their pay grade, and need to be SACKED with immediate effect!).

With something so dangerous, you DO NOT silence the media, and stick your head in the sand hoping it will go away. There are 1,000's and maybe 1,000,000's of lives at risk here.

Criminal irresponsibility and imposed silence doesn't improve those risks, it seriously compounds them and can cost huge numbers of unnecessary lives. There is a window of opportunity to get this under control (a situation that should never have been allowed to develop), and it is not long before that window of opportunity is slammed shut.

I'm not too worried about Ebola..

It's all the nobola that is causing people to vomit uncontrollably, drop over dead on planes, and be put into isolation in hospitals that is scaring the crap out of me.
