Shelter "Storm" shelter under the stairs.

I recently moved into a new home. I think the style is called 1 1/2 story (because upstairs is smaller than downstairs. Anyway, there is storage space under the stairs with a door easy enough for me to get into. One end of the room is almost tall enough to stand up in. (as the stairs slope up)

Does anyone have experience with placing a storm room in that space? I was thinking of building a reenforced 'room' in that space, drilling through the floor, and running cable anchors into the ground below the crawl space. That is, this room within that space would be crush resistant, and be anchored in place.

Ideas? Suggestions?

I see you haven't gotten a response yet. I would say that's a good idea; stairs tend to be built with plenty of structural support anyway. One thing - if the door opens out from the closet - it could be blocked by debris. One solution is to have the door open in, but then you'd want a bar or something to secure it most likely.
