What is the oldest canned foods you’ve eaten? I opened some 6 year old canned peas, green beans, and sweet potatoes yesterday. They didn’t smell bad,but seemed to have lost flavor.

10 year old spam is fine.
Have had several different commercially canned soup 10+ years old.
Not canned, but JIF peanut butter lasts a long time beyond the best-used-by date, even the extra crunchy.
All of these were stored at room temperature conditions.

Some foods will lose a lot of flavor............IMO........veggies go flat, fruits lose texture, and soups can do all the above. Probably won't hurt you, but there won't be "MMMMMM......GOOD"

Pass it forward...
In the US Army in 1968, we would eat 25-year-old C-rations (canned food) while out of base on missions. They had lost a little flavor, but were better eating than our mess hall chow. Of course, the Mess Officer and Mess Sergeant had a scheme going where they sold the good food on the black market. After I was transferred elsewhere, the troops boycotted the mess hall. I hope that got the "Brass's" attention.

It depends on what it is. 3 years past best-by date on canned pie fillings and I can taste the "can." Peaches and fruit seem to lose much of their flavor about 5 years past best-by date. Peaches are the one item most likely to have "can" issues and failures in my pantry. Thus I place plastic under those cans. Also potatoes are more mushy about 5 years past best-by date. Veg are usually perfectly fine 10 years past best by. On meats, at 10 years past best by I taste very strong salt.

10 to 12 years on some stuff. Some things start to taste a little "tinny", but still edible.

Tomato products and canned pumpkin do NOT keep well long term. Ask me how I know. :kk2:
Ohhhh yes, I learned these two “fails” the hard way!
I’ve wasted way too many cans of hood pumpkin pie filling before I realized they do not last long. Some cans went bad in two years!
