ALERT Steel Mill in Pueblo Colorado burning

This is my eye witness report. Three fires started in Pueblo yesterday afternoon. First was north side along Fountain Creek shortly afternoon. Required a lot of resources and evacuations. A couple hours later Evraz Steel Mill started bellowing black clouds of smoke. The mill is located on the South side of Pueblo. Within the hour another fire on the mill porperty to the south of the first first mill fire started off. Distance between the two nearly a mile. I could see the flames from the first fire coming from what was formerly the wire mill. It is now a storage area. What chemicals are stored I have no idea. They are telling Pueblo residents to shelter in place through Sunday. Possible winds of 100 mph. Areas close to the mill are being told to shut all windows, turn off air conditioning, and heaters. No information on what started the fires and no more updates this morning.

Get your action plan going. If winds are going your way. That fire will be on top of you quick. If you surmise the fire might go your way. I would plan to evacuate sooner, rather then later.
Take important documents and photos inside and outside of home.

Prayers for you.
We are in good shape compared to many. We don’t live there but back in the mountains. We still are snowed in. So fire is not on the top of the list. We have solar and a generator when the winds blow down the lines. No plans for today other than making some pickled eggs. No idea what the war will bring our way but that is not in our hands. We were in Pueblo topping off some groceries. We use Pueblo and Colorado Springs for grocery runs.

Just spoke with someone from Pueblo. Word is the wire mill fire where they now use as storage started as an explosion. That does not account for the mill fire that lite off within the hour to the East.
Side note
While picking up groceries three people around us were open carry. Apparently grocery pickups are becoming a tactical effort in Pueblo.

From what I hear, Pueblo is rough. Haven't been there - I think ever - if I did it was over 20 years ago. We had a fire in NE CO years ago that started from a flat tire off a vehicle. No one ever heard about it, despite it being 45,000 acres because it was mostly prairie and cows.

Prayers for you bubblehead and bev.

The Foundry and Iron Mill there in Pueblo was on strike for something like 25 years or so. They just started back up with limited runs in the early 2000's as I recall. When I left there in the early 2010's they were just starting back up with limited production runs.

OK, putting on my very best conspiracy hat: Russia may have killed two birds, maybe three or more, with one stone.

One: Insurance claim. Any number of dark reasons they may want to divest themselves of this steel mill. Economic, war, etc.
Two: Wildfire. Just as the winds are going to be epic. Saw what happened here in Oregon when a burn took off in high winds. Lots of bad things happened to good people, forests and wildlife.
Three: Just took out another of our precious steel mills.
Four: If this fire takes off, then a whole lot of resources will be needed just when we are facing the eclipse issues.

I lived in Pueblo from 2000-2002. Bessemer area. My favorite city in the States. At least they finally got the chemical storage site closed or I'd be even more worried
Bessemer was filled with black smoke. Last word was the fire is contained but still burns.
lisa you can still get more than a plate of good Mexican food at Rita’s for a reasonable price.
No official word on why this fire started. Unofficial is an explosion in the storage area which is the old wire mill. You would think the FBI or ATF would be on scene but nothing but the sound of silence. Need oil and steel to fight a war and both are getting in short supply.
Winds today reached 60 miles per hour around Pueblo. In the Mountains they say we had gusts up to 80 mph.
