I will go ahead and give the political response now as to save time of having to read it next week. Our Ambassador program has been proven to be a great success. Although it was not as successful as hoped we can only imagine how much higher the number of shootings would have been if our ambassadors had not been fully engaged with the public. We are investigating the possibility of increased spending on this program due to it’s growing success pending applications for federal funding.

...replace "Ambassador program" with "Covid vaccinations" and you have pretty much the same story.

Looks like last year's Chicago Memorial Day Weekend homicides was 9.

Chicago experienced its most violent Memorial Day weekend in five years — 9 killed, 42 wounded — despite stepped up police patrols and a focus on neighborhood programs that city officials hoped would provide peaceful alternatives.

They need to get some of those "mostly peaceful alternatives." That will solve it.

And with that I have to wonder if the CPD even has the resources to investigate to get a "two for one" out of these shootings? For that matter even if they do whether the local DA even cares to prosecute?

CHICAGO -- Memorial Day weekend violence has left nine people dead and 35 others wounded, Chicago police said.

Police said three people were shot while standing on the sidewalk in the 9100-block of South Harper Avenue when someone drove up and fired at around 1:45 a.m.

A 59-year-old man, 57-year-old woman, and a 77-year-old man were all hit and transported to local hospitals.

The violence happening despite Mayor Brandon Johnson's new safety plan, to increase police on the streets and include community groups to help curb violence in the city.

Over the weekend, 35-year-old William Hair's family spoke to ABC7 about what happened to their loved one early Saturday morning in Lakeview.

"He was there with his best friend. They pulled up, didn't have a chance to do anything. His best friend, thank God, was with him, and valiantly tried to save his life, and performed CPR, helped him breathe. My son fought for his life, but he was gone," Bill said.

Hair was one of five people shot over the past four days in Lakeview, police are saying they plan to increase patrols in that area.

Sunday night, police say a 2-year-old boy was shot while was playing in a bedroom with an adult when a gun went off - the boy was hit in the right hand.

Earlier that same day, a 2-year-old girl was hit in the hand after she found a gun and accidentally shot herself. Both children are expected to be OK.

"This is not an accident. This is negligence due to these guns inside these homes with no lock on it. Get a lock, lock it down, save these children," said community activist Andrew Holmes.

The violence has been happening despite Johnson's new safety plan to increase police on the streets and include community groups to help curb violence in the city.

ABC7 caught up with Johnson at an unrelated event on Monday.

"We have a lot of work to do in the city. Poverty didn't go away over the weekend. And, we understand that when communities have been disinvested in and traumatized, that you're seeing the manifestation of the trauma," Johnson said.

Johnson also said he was encouraged to see people coming together over the weekend, in hopes of building a safer Chicago.

"We definitely have to come together as a community to continue to work on this. We are in a state of emergency," said Carolyn Ruff with BLM - Women of Faith.

In an open roll call on the Southwest Side over the weekend with police, Johnson, community members, local and state leaders, the 8th District Chicago police commander vowed to work diligently to combat crime.

"We're showing we won't stand for violence in this neighborhood or in any neighborhood and we're showing the 8th District and the Chicago Police Department is behind us," said CPD Commander Bryan Spreyne. "It's difficult. It's definitely trying times and as I've told a lot of the communities before, it's not just the police department that's suffering. Every job, every career, every aspect of business is short on employees."

Johnson said he will continue to work with all of the city's partners in addressing the root causes of crime and bring necessary support to communities.

"This weekend, what you saw on display is that everybody recognizes that it's going to take all of us to unite the city and to build a better stronger safer city," Johnson said.

It almost all ends up in Chicago and a few other dem tribal areas.

The amount of waste they pour into programs for the chosen ones is ridiculous and the connected elites skim a large part of that off the top by giving contracts to run said programs to fronts that take a taste then pass on a taste to others who launder it for the politicians.

We’re worse than a third world dictatorship in this ILL-State.

Man in ‘peacekeepers’ vest charged with robbing, beating man in Little Village

Police said Oscar Montes and another man were seen on a police surveillance camera striking a man seated in a car late Friday in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue.

By David Struett

Updated May 28, 2023, 6:15pm EDT

A man in a neon “peacekeepers” vest beat up and robbed a man in Little Village on Friday night, police said, as dozens of violence prevention workers fanned out across Chicago over the Memorial Day weekend.

Oscar Montes, 31, was in a group of seven or eight people that pulled a man from a car and punched and kicked him on the ground in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, Cook County prosecutors said in a Sunday bond hearing.

Montes took the man’s cellphone and struck him over the head with it, and another person stole the man’s wallet, prosecutors said.

The man’s face and ribs were fractured, and his eye was damaged to the point that he suffered partial blindness, prosecutors said.

Officers watching the attack on video from a police surveillance camera dispatched officers who were nearby tending a large crowd, prosecutors said. Montes was allegedly seen by officers throwing the stolen cellphone in the street as he left.

When officers arrived, they saw Montes walking away and trying to take off a neon vest that read “peacekeepers,” according to a police report. No one in court Sunday mentioned a peacekeepers vest or a connection to an anti-violence organization.

It’s unclear which violence prevention organization, if any, Montes was working for.

A spokeswoman for Enlace, the violence prevention group that provides peacekeepers in Little Village, said the group would provide a statement but it had not by Sunday afternoon.

Montes was held on no bail by Judge Maryam Ahmad on charges of aggravated battery, robbery and vehicular invasion.

Montes’ assistant public defender questioned how well police could have identified him in the dark during the time of the attack, at 11:15 p.m. But the judge said she was familiar with the area, and how well-lighted the street is below the police surveillance camera where the attack occurred.

He was released from an Illinois prison last May following an aggravated discharge of a firearm conviction. In that case, from 2012, prosecutors charged him with attempted murder. But Montes accepted a plea deal of 12 years in prison for just the discharge charge.

More than 500 people have been hired as peacekeepers, trained to de-escalate violence in Chicago as part of a state-funded, $11 million anti-violence program. The peacekeepers belong to more than a dozen community violence prevention groups.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker authorized funding the anti-violence strategy in 2021 when he signed the Reimagine Public Safety Act, creating the state Office of Firearm Violence Prevention. Funding for the program is expected to rise to $30 million next year.

Most participants in the peacekeepers program are not full-time outreach workers with salaries. They’re recruited in violent neighborhoods and get a $100 daily stipend. Some in the program still have connections in the gang world.

Peacekeepers and people involved in anti-violence programs are sometimes targets of violence. Two peacekeepers were wounded — one shot, one stabbed — between February and April this year, according to a study by the Center for Neighborhood Engaged Research & Science.

Earlier in May, a participant of the violence prevention group CRED was fatally shot while walking in the parking lot of its Roseland outreach center.

Well yeah - that fluorescent yellow reflective sort of gives you away - that's it's purpose.

Judge has gotten the word - protect membership incompetence and official malfeasance - and don't allow court mention of any connection to a "hinky" quazi-governmental group of "social workers" be critiqued for "standards."
