So we’ve been in our preps for over a month. Been staying out of the stores as much as possible since the end of February. So starting to deal with food fatigue. Anybody got any good spam recipes? Lol thanks

Cube the spam and cook in an egg mix to make an omlet. Place cheese and a good amount of pepperoni (cut into small pieces) inside the folded omlet.

edit: sprinkle garlic powder over the pepperoni and cheese.

fried spam, chopped in an omelet or mac and cheese. There are a million things to do with. Just cook it first and use it like ham. I knew a guy who loved it straight out of the can but he was odd.

Spam Salad Sandwich Spread
12 ounces grated spam
2/3 cup Miracle whip
1/4 cup sweet relish
1 tablespoon dried chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Mix and refrigerate 1 hour to allow the onion to soften. Bolonge also works well. Regular mayo can be used but not as tangy.

I sprinkle some powdered garlic on my Spam while frying. Furikake I can take or leave. - OGM
Spam Musubi

Ingredients
5 cups cooked sushi rice, room temperature
5 sheets nori, cut in half lengthwise
1 (12 oz.) can Spam
6 tbsp soy sauce
4 tbsp mirin
4 tbsp sugar
Furikake, to taste
Powdered garlic (optional)

Directions
  1. Cut Spam into 10 slices. Fry until slightly crispy. Remove and drain on plate lined with paper towels. In another pan, combine soy sauce, mirin and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to low. Add Spam slices, coating them in the mixture. When mixture has thickened, remove Spam from pan.
  2. Lay a sheet of nori lengthwise on a clean surface. Moisten lower half of musubi maker (see Note), and place on lower third of nori. Fill musubi maker with rice and press flat until the rice is 3/4-inch high. Sprinkle rice with furikake. Top with slice of Spam. Remove musubi maker and keep in a bowl of warm water to keep it clean and moist.
  3. Starting at the end towards you, fold nori over Spam and rice stack, and keep rolling until completely wrapped in the nori. Slightly dampen the end of the nori to seal it. Repeat with the other nine Spam slices, making sure to rinse off musubi maker after each use to prevent it from getting too sticky.
Cook’s Note
You can also use an empty Spam can that has been opened on both sides for the musubi mold, using your hands (or a piece of Spam) to press down on the rice.

On the show M*A*S*H, they made an episode where a recovering soldier made Spam Parmigiana for the doctors to show them his gratitude, and another episode had them cobble together a fake lamb - a Spam lamb - for Easter.

Here's somebody who attempted to make a Spam Parmigiana.

Spam Parmigiana

Recipe created by Jenn's Food Journey, inspired by Johanna W.

Ingredients:

4-6 slices of Spam (you can cut them however thick or thin you want them)
1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
1 Tablespoon plain or seasoned bread crumbs
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon Italian herb seasoning (you can just use basil if you don't have this)
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
3 Tablespoons of your favorite pasta sauce (you can use more if you want)
shredded mozzarella cheese (you be the judge on how much goes on top of each piece)

Directions:
Bring a pot of water to boil. Drop the pieces of Spam into the water, reduce the heat, and let it simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let the meat sit in the water for another 3-5 minutes.

In a shallow dish, mix together panko, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, and Italian seasoning. Remove the meat from the water and put it directly into the panko mixture. Coat each piece with the mixture, pressing into the meat.

Preheat the broiler of the oven. In a skillet, over medium heat, add the olive oil and heat until shimmering. Carefully place the Spam pieces in the oil and quickly fry (about 2 minutes on each side). Remove from skillet and place on a wire rack inside a baking sheet. Top with sauce and cheese and place under the broiler. Broil until cheese is melted and bubbly. Enjoy!

I was grilling some Spam one day when my teenage daughter walked up and asked what I was cooking (Yes this was many years ago)
I told her I was grilling some Spam
She said--Dad that is so redneck
I asked her if she liked fried Spam and she said yes
I told her if she grilled it she wouldn't have to wash the skillet
She said --Dad you're pretty smart --for a redneck

Now I have to cook up a bunch of processed meat tonight!

Tour through the operations of the Hormel Company. Includes all parts of the meatpacking and processing EXCEPT slaughtering. Shows beef, pigs, pork, bacon, sausage, hotdogs, frankfurters, portion control, steaks, etc.

I've been craving this dish that Mom used to make when I was a kid.: Cut the spam into slices. Make a sauce by combining a can of tomato sauce and a can of tomato paste. Put the sliced spam and a can of new potatoes in the sauce. Bake for 30 minutes @ 350 degrees.

This is a recipe I made up years ago...

dice potatoes and onions
place in skillet w/a small amount of oil
cook until almost done
meanwhile cube up a can of spam, a little smaller size than the potatoes
add to spam and potatoes
cook until potatoes are done
turn heat off and cover with shredded cheddar cheese
top with a lid and when all cheese is melty creamy it's ready to eat
if you like potato sandwiches this is great for sandwiches too

My son in law calls this goody-goody

Cubed Spam and fried rice with onions, green peppers, spring onions, fried eggs chopped, and soy or protein sauce, or just make the spam with pineapple and sweet sour sauce and add the rice.

Ewww! LOL! Spam is one thing I have zero of in my pantry! But I think it’s the high salt content that’s the problem. Someone has mentioned washing the salt out in order to use it for dog food (really, guys, do your dog and your wallet a favor and buy canned jack mackerel instead). You could wash part of the salt out for human use, too, and maybe it would be a little more palatable.

I think I'd rather get BBQ take out if that's an option. Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess! Please don't spam me.....

Warm whole milk at medium in a pan (4 oz), add in some sliced cheese and stir until dissolved. Put in a dish an refrigerate until solid. Then mash a whole can of Spam with a fork. Add it to cold cheese and add some sweet relish. Use as a sandwich spread either cold, or put on buns and bake in oven for a few minutes.

It's quite tasty and can also be used as a dip for chips.

The fish is extremely salty too and just about impossible to wash out the salt. It will be messy. The spam is very good for dogs and cheaper than the fish. Spam is too salty for people who have high blood pressure. I like to wash it out under hot water in a strainer. Comes out real nice. Then can fry. For pets i suggested mixing the spam with rice. You could do it with the fish too i guess, but spam is cheaper and goes further.

The low sodium Spam actually does have a much lower salt content, it's not just advertisement. And I probably shouldn't even say that, it will make it that much harder for me to find.
Unless you've got the time to go thru the entire can and fish out all the bones, it's not a good idea to feed jack mackerel to a dog. Some of those bones are razor sharp and could do serious damage to a dogs intestines. And mackerel is more expensive than Spam here.

Canned fish bones crumble, so that’s not an issue. We eat the jack mackerel ourselves, and it’s really not very salty. I have to admit that I got my jack mackerel supply at a Grocery Outlet store, for the most part, and didn’t pay much more than a dollar a can for any of it. (I have quite a bit on hand.). But I do think fish has a higher nutritional value than Spam.

Anyway, you guys go on and eat your Spam! Have fun! I think I will make a nice jack mackerel chowder!

Brad and Greg tour a Hormel Plant in 1964.

An Uncle used to work at a Hormels plant in southern MN. The one thing he refused to eat was corned beef  But he was generally down on processed meat :)

I haven't eaten SPAM since I was a kid. But Costco had it on sale in February so it's going on the menu here shortly. I thought I'd wait for a nice day and cook it on a campfire. Everything tastes better over the campfire, mostly.

Kent Rollins just put up a couple Spam and Bologna recipes. Run time 19:44

I don’t like the consistency of Spam but figured out if I slice it really thin and fry it up like bacon, it’s pretty good! I don’t feel the need to find any other ways to prepare it since I can find many ways to eat it like bacon.
