Update: We have a new Sunspot forming on the viewable lower right hand side on the Sun and should rotate out view in a day or two and back to a blank Sun again.

The score is now at!

WE are now 180 days into the year 2020.
134 days without Sunspots.
46 days with Sunspots.
We are now at 74% of the Year without Sunspots.

With 365 days to the year JULY, 1 is the halfway point in the calendar year.

Seriously folks we've only had up to now one month plus two weeks this year with Sunspots I.E. 45 days with Sunspots.
We have almost four plus months without Sunspots, it's not looking good and I can't say what this coming winter will be like but if this keeps up sooner or later we are going to see some very cold winters.

Well as I was saying yesterday that new Sunspot is gone, now at 135 days without Sunspots and also bumped up to 75%. of the year without Sunspots.

We have what they say is a new Sunsopt forming on the lower left side of the Sun and up to now they have not counted it as a Sunspot and will update as things change.

New Sunspot and poped up almost in the middle of the Sun, it's a small one and will update when we see a change.

Well we had a few days of confusion with Sunspots showing out of nowhere then disappearing only to have a few forming that never became a Sunspot or even counted as one..
Our Sun is still going from the old solar cycle 24 to the new cycle 25 and showing some uptick with Sunspot activity or trying to and how long this will last is unknown.

Its July 8, 2020 we are now 190 days into the year.
So far we have 141 days without Sunspots.
Up to now we have had only 49 days with Sunspots.
The percentage of the year without Sunspots is at 74%.

Ok; one of the failed Sunsopts has come back to be a Sunspot again and it's on the center line far right side of the viewable Sun and should rotate out of view in a few days.

Oh well that did not last long the Sun is once again blank as a cueball.

My gosh, I was holding out hope that we'd have some sense of normalcy and get a sun spot once in a while! This is just not looking good. Thanks, Publius, for keeping such a good track on this situation.

We have made another week without Sunspots and there was one forming that never made it.
The predictions up to now of solar cycle 25 being weaker than cycle 24 seems to be right on the money.

Publius

TB Fanatic
We have a new Sunspot today and it just barely in view on the lower left side of the viewable Sun facing us.
The new solar cycle 25 the Sun seems to be trying to produce Sunspots.

So we are now 204 days into the year 2020.
We have 153 days with no Sunspots.
Right now we are up to 51 days with Sunspots.
We're at 75% of the year without Sunspots.

Ok; I waited a whole day to see what happens before posting an update, and we now have two Sunspots going at the same time and it looks like it will be a week before we "may" be back to a blank Sun again.

No telling what will happen, but our Sun is still going into a new solar cycle ( cycle N0# 25), the Sun seems to be trying to produce Sunspots and has a lot of catching up to do if things are going to change in the other direction.

Yes and it has some size to it too and it's just rolling into view, we have one Sunspot that's about to roll out of sight and see if it's gone by tomorrow morning.

Well that one Sunspot has rolled out of sight and the other two on the left side of the Sun are still there. Now these only two and it's normal to have 5 to 20 Sunspots at any given time.

Update; the older of the two Sunspots has faded away and now only the newest one on the far left side of the viewable Sun is left.

Update: We are now back to a blank Sun and I have no idea if we will see more Sunspots like we have been seeing.
Also note we have only 137 day left to the year 2020.

Its August 15, 2020 and we now 228 days into the year.
We have racked up 154 days without Sunspots.
We now have 74 days this year with Sunspots.
the percentage of the year so far without Sunspots is now at 68%.

Update we had a Sunspot show up out of nowhere and it only lasted three days and the word is we may have another show up in a few days we just have to Wait and see if it happens. Our Sun is showing some activity lately and how much more we will see is anyones best guess as it's really imposable to predict.

As of right now it's August 22, 2020 we are now 235 days into the year.
We now have 158 days without Sunspots.
We have only racked up 77 days with Sunspots.
The percentage of the year without Sunspots is now at 67%

I checked Spaceweather.com this morning, looking for info on the asteroid flyby today. It will be a nothingburger, but there is a long article on the front page about The Carrington Event. Seems it isn’t so unusual as previously thought. Things that make you go hmmmm...

Publius, I've posted an important article from Electroverse on the Grand Solar Minimum thread that is specifically about sunspots. I'm posting the link for the GSM thread, it's post 1280 on page 32:

A few days ago there was a thread about the Farmers Almanac the topic was this coming winter and I said given a few days I would be up dating this thread.
We have just gone 14 days without Sunspots
It now looks like our run of Sunspots is over and no telling if we will see any more, but I think we will that's the best we can hope for.

As of now we are 248 days into the year 2020.
We now have 170 days blank or spotless Sun.
We've only had so far 78 days with Sunspots.
The percentage of the year without Sunspots is now at 69%.

We do seem to be going down an interesting road. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the sunspots!

regarding the Carrington event thread on the main, I'd love to know what the sun's activity was like around that time period. was it higher than normal, normal, or less than normal?

It appears that we are going down that road into the GSM. Thanks, Publius!

Sounds like they are rediscovering what's already known and documented.

Weil it seems they may have tightened their requirements for what qualifies as a Sunspot and with this current stretch of Spotless Sun I have seen them not number what in the past they would call a Sunspot and now a second time as they are pointing out this micro sized Spot and not officially label it a Sunspot and give it a number.

We are coming up on four weeks of no Sunspots and only time will tell if we go a few days more without any Sunspots or if this micro sized Spot develops into an official Sunspot.

We just went 28 days without one Sunspot that's four weeks worth of blank Sun and it's still going.

It's September 18, 2020 and we are now 262 days into the year.
We had only 78 days this year with Sunspots.
Up to now we have racked up 184 days with no Sunspots.
The percentage of the year without Sunspots is at 70%

We have reached 32 days in a row with no Sunspots.
Now at 188 spotless days and 71% of the year with no Sunspots.

So yeah a whole month+ with no Sunspots folks and still racking it up, not good folks.

Oh my...

When I saw you'd posted I thought, finally, we must have a sunspot forming!

Ugh, I should have known. The longer it takes, the more convinced I become that we're heading in the GSM.

Thanks, Publius!
