ECON So What Happened To Silver??

King Samson

I'm Here
Just wondering... Silver hasn't been able to bounce back, for multiple months??

Why?

In January, many were predicting $150 to $200 or higher for silver, but instead, it dropped -40% from it's high in January, and has never even tried to test that previous high.

So, what's going on??

A metaphor from Super Bowl 51...

  • The Deficit: The Falcons led 21-0 in the second quarter and 28-3 with 2:12 remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Rally: The Patriots scored 31 unanswered points, including two touchdowns and two-point conversions in the fourth quarter to tie the game 28-28.
  • Overtime: The Patriots won the coin toss and scored a touchdown on the first possession of overtime, winning 34-28.
Silver is the Patriots.
Stocks are the Falcons.

Ain't time to brag. The game is still on.

Just about every country around the world is broke and in debt up to their eye balls. America can never repay what we owe and neither can any other country. All the Central Banks have been printing money just as much as the US. Large and small companies are losing money many have gone bankrupt and many more will do the same this year and next. People are not able to pay all their bills, and salaries cannot keep up with inflation. At some point paper money will lose just about all of it value. It is already just about worthless.
The war with Iran has depleted a lot of munitions that need to be replaced and silver is used in just about everything including bullets, since we all know you need a silver bullet to kill the living dead that walk among us.
At some point in time the paper PM markets will just collapse and if you have PMs in your hands you will become wealthy. History is on the side of those who own PMs.

So what happened to the DOW? It was over 50,000? It does not seem to be able to
get back there. People were saying it was on the way to 100,000.

My silver and gold are doing just fine. Thank you.
My stocks are so so.

It seems all financial assets took a hit when the Iranian situation started. I posted this above:

Silver is down -40% from it's recent high
DOW is down -3% from it's recent high

The DOW is back over 49,000 as I type this. The S&P 500 and the NASDAQ both hit new records the past week, so stocks overall have clawed their way back.

But silver hasn't fought back, and there was speculation it would rise with this Iranian deal going on, and higher oil prices.

They are saying they should of listed to King Sampson and bought defense stocks.
LOL... that really wouldn't of been a bad bet, there's a lot of stuff being blown up lately:

Europe’s rearmament push drives global military spending to record $2.9 trillion despite U.S. pullback

Key Points
  • Increased spending in Europe was the main driver of global spending growth.
  • The U.S. kept its spot as the world’s top defense spender, splurging $954 billion in 2025 alone.
  • Defense stocks rallied globally in 2025 as governments expanded military budgets.

Precious metals may be due, in part, to less available liquidity at the individual investor level. I noticed, even here on TB2K, people were selling on the high rather than buying, wanting to lock in the profit. They do the same with stocks and we even saw it in real estate there for a while.

Prices have stabilized. Not a bad thing. Wild swings create problems whether they are up or down. It spooks sound investments and makes the algorithms stupid.

Silver is down -40% from it's recent high

DOW is down -3% from it's recent high
My average in is probably about $7.50
So, for me, in 25 years, it's a 9 bagger, at it's depressed current price.

So, yea, I feel the pain.

NOT!

And comparing it to the DOW.

Didn't someone post that when oil goes up, metals go down? I'm not going to complain about the price right now; but buy a little more silver; I have a little grocery money this money to use. With hubby out of town, I haven't been buying extra groceries. Yay!

I must have dreamed this thread had been locked.

Anyway, We bought most of our silver at under $20/oz so am quite happy at $70/oz. It was exciting seeing it run up! But same time, glad it stabilized.
I had that exact same dream. :rdog:

Actually, the mods sometimes re-consider, which I guess is a good thing. Kudos to the humble mod who originally locked it, and who (I'm guessing) then reopened it or perhaps allowed her colleague mod to reopen it. Absolutely...unless the situation(s) in Israel/Iran and Ukraine and Venezuela and Timbuktu don't get worse. In that case you'll want to go long on dosimeters, war meters and Geiger counters.

Best

If you slowly bought a lot of sliver while it was $19 to $30 dollars per-Oz and later watch it go to $34 then $35 later to $40 until it hit $120 an Oz then slowly go back down to $70 to $75 an Oz. Right now you have more than doubled your investment you started out with. I'm sure we have at lest one member onboard that invested say a million dollars in sliver or close to it and now looking at their net worth being close to two million dollars or even more. I don't blame them for not saying anything that they just won the lottery as it will only bring them big problems.
Sooner or later sliver must go higher in value and if it hits $150 an Oz this person will have a net worth about five million dollars. In this day and age five million is not a whole lot of money and refrain from spending money on big ticket items like new cars and house, but buy used cars and fix the house you have, you can live comfortably and live your life out on that much money.

I made my last major purchases when it was in the low 20's, and as an investor, I'm happy to see it grow in value. My concern is how fast it ramped up, the last few months of 2025 and January of this year. Many people FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) jumped in with both feet, thinking silver was going to the moon at that time.

We saw multiple reports of LCS selling out of inventory, online dealers have limited inventory and even LCS not being able to buy back, as they had so much cash in limbo, waiting for the refiners to pay them. This wasn't a normal market.

Then, the last time silver was in the low 70's was around mid December, so it took almost a month an a half, to climb from low 70's to the record 121 at the end of January. Then, the bottom came out, and it fell, IN A FEW DAYS, back to the 70's.

That's a HUGE move.

And it hasn't been able to even try and test the past high, like the stock market many times does.

That's where my concern comes from. A wild swing like that. And everyone that jumped in the end of December and all of January, thinking they had the next home run, are all underwater now. That's concerning.

Sure, if you're a long term holder, your investment has done well. But these people are the minority in this investment pool. I'd like to know how many people jumped in at the last of the rise in Dec/Jan. I'd have to think it was many, to clean out all the dealers, the way they did.

A friend had to drop 200 ounces of silver when it was over $100. For a new tool.

When they went to the 40 year old established LCS- Exchange and jewelery store, there was just as many sellers as buyers on average and thats what the help there said too.

But there was buyers as well. I wouldn't say that the buyers are going to the poor house anytime soon. I bet most buyers are simply sitting on there Vagas PMs and bitching about not being able to go on that vacation, or buy that new sports car, etc.. this year let. And are already saving up for the big next years purchase thats probably not PMs!

Any idea on what size their purchases were? Were they buying a few coins or big, substantial purchases and maxing out their credit cards?

Cash is king. And less paper trails. PMs investors by majority are cash heavy, but only when it comes to exchanging fiat for PMs.

As you know CC purchases are great for business exchanges in general, so one can right off expenses especially. Buying a PM that is in its self that could be considered currency is really silly to buy with C.C.s.

Just be the bank and exchange FIAT for PM coin. Its what they do.

They was really busy my friend says and they had to wait at least 30 minutes in line. Average deals where around $20k plus and minus. A lot of people where selling junk jewelry and one off stuff.

Weren't many of the people buying in January just your normal Joe Six Pack types, just trying to get into the fun?

And, what were the levels they were buying at? How much were they spending?

No. It was reopened by Dennis after review.

No, Joe 6 packs are just that. I'm not a dealer. So you need to ask them.

I do know that my associates stack to be the bank, not a Joe six pack.

I haven’t seen actual numbers but it is a question worth asking. I know a few people that lost their shirts. Some of them sold and took the loss for tax purposes. One guy is holding the metal as part of his estate. One woman is holding and praying it goes back up above her buy in price.

Then those people are not stackers. And the woman thats praying, let her know she holds a type of currency that has never gone to zero. And it can't just disappear like fiat does by hook, crook, tax, or inflation.

:D

Most investors in PMs aren’t ”stackers”. Not even at the individual level. But that’s okay because if everyone were stackers there wouldn’t be any PMs remaining on the market.

So, based on the comment you made above that the LCS was full of buyers and sellers, your friend didn't know actually how much those buyers were buying? Did he think it was mostly stackers, spending $20K each, at over the $100 cost in January?
