Somewhere in the Northern Pacific, a weapons officer of an Ohio class boomer is shocked to see the status lights signal that all missile hatches are opening. The Tridents' navigational systems are spooling up as if getting ready for launch. He informs the Captain of the mysterious goings on and is shocked to hear the Captain say, she's already gone up to launch depth and we can't change her!
"Captain," said the now confused and worried weapons officer, "Could this be..."
The Captain cut him off, "Don't say it, WEPs, just don't say it!"
"But Captain, we heard rumors about this in training. I think they called it the "Olson" effect. It's when someone says how quiet it is. Sort of like poking a bear"
The normally phlegmatic submariners on the bridge hear this, go slack jawed, wide eyed, and then panic.
