CHAT So, a question on negative numbers

There is no such thing as nothingness, and zero does not exist. Everything is something. Nothing is nothing. "Nothing", used as a pronoun subject, is the absence of a something or particular thing that one might expect or desire to be present ("We found nothing", "Nothing was there") or the inactivity of a thing or things that are usually or could be active ("Nothing moved", "Nothing happened").

Therefore - By definition, nothing is the opposite of something, so how can nothing be something? But for us to be able to talk about nothing, there must be at minimum some quality or pattern that can be recognized as nothing. In other words, there must be something. And hence we find ourselves in a bind between two words that are definitive opposites but get tangled in usage. This is a perfect example of focusing on language to untangle philosophic problems, also known as the linguistic turn. Then let's explore the language a little more, and see how words are actually used, focusing particularly on where variations of "nothing" get used a lot.

Zero isn't false and isn't an empty string. These are all nothings that are something, and that need to be separated in computer code.

(0 !== '') && ('' !== false) && (false !== 0)

<<Brother? How? What?>> Misty was incredulous, the others could not even speak. The Angel of Light spoke without moving a whisker, as still as her brother, the Demon of Darkness. <<Before I created myself, before there was anything, there was nothing. No, less than nothing, for there was no space, no time, to give nothing meaning. I had literally nothing to work with. I could only create myself if I created my opposite as well. The both of us together, should we ever fight, would cancel out, the Universe of All Things would cease to exist, and there would once again be less than nothing. We are equal in our strength, but opposite in our abilities. We both know that we can never defeat the other, to try would be the end of everything that we both hold dear. I treasure love and light, whereas he craves suffering and darkness. As long as we do not attempt to defeat the other, we can each hold hope that our goals are possible. That is why we do not fight, there is love and light for me, yet suffering and darkness for him. There has been this balance since the beginning of time, and it must continue forever.>>

<<My brother, the greedy little bastard, wanted it all. He knew I had created the Meadow, and he wanted it for himself, a ready-made haven of love, usurped to his darkest desires, pain and suffering forever. I could not let that happen, but I could not prevent him from trying as soon as the Gate was opened. That is why I brought the three of you here. You are not constrained as am I, unable to engage him in combat, unable to defeat him and survive the struggle. I have chosen well, you have detected his attempt to conquer the Meadow and upset the balance of love and suffering, light and dark. By trying to unbalance the universe, he has enabled his own defeat. The three of you have the power to defeat the Demon of Darkness, for you have love, the greatest force of all. Love conquers all, and love will be your shield. Force him back to Oblivion, and close the Gate forever. Good, for once, shall conquer evil.>>
