Two Hay bales side by side with a 3/4" plywood backing and a target on the hay make a good way to recover used undamaged ammo.
Dont hang the center of the target over the space where the hay bales meet. You will end up with damaged plywood .
Any object that is round will work for shooting. Possums could be taken with marbles i would think. Or good solid rocks.

I kind of like the idea of lobbing stones to their sides and freaking them out. My luck I’d miss. I also need an eye doctor appointment first or something else to help with eyesight. Or a LOT of practice. Probably both.
ETA: second the ice cubes. At least for the kids. I don’t want to mow rocks. I wonder how a tarp in front of target would work as “collector”?

Visit all of your auto mechanics shops and tell them you will pay a few bucks for each used CV joint that they can get you. By the end of the week you could have a rather large box of them if you hit enough shops. Each one has at least 6 large Chrome hardened steel ball bearings in it that make the CV Joint work. Sizes go from slightly bigger than half inch to over an inch for some models.
The other option is to upgrade and go for something that flings golf balls a LOT faster than a slingshot.
Or for more fun, tennis balls, which like to be coated in sterno before launching sometimes...

I actually did some research on the old style sling for a Bible class several years ago. These were the elite ballistics of their day. Trained Greek or Roman soldiers could accurately demolish targets over a hundred yards away. David used stones, but organized military units wanted uniformity and would not only cast their own with their unit name on it, but some had epithets such as “Ouch” or “ For Pompey’s backside”.

The sling "bullet' was the first thing called 'bullet' in history. They'd often cast them from lead in sand using their thumb as a mold-punch. Some places they were called "glandes" same latin word as testicle. Something tells me more than one vanquished warrior has had his nuts shot out of a sling... hopefully most of them were dead and did not have to witness it!

it does not have a handle at all, it doesn't have any elastic bands. You can make it out of string, cloth, cords, or anything handy.
You can hide it in a SHIRT pocket. IT WONT ALARM at weapons detectors.
It can silently KILL at a distance but only if you have PRACTICED A LOT with it for accuracy.
It is not for close contact defense or [, you probably need at least 15 feet from the target.
It looks like a 6 foot cord with a patch in middle to hold the stone. You have a loop on one end to go around your wrist and the other end is held in the fingers until you let go to launch the stone.[/B]
Centrifugal force is your friend.

That's the one I haveI always liked the slingshots with a wrist brace; much better control especially with stronger bands. One with a folding wrist brace carries easy in a pack or maybe a back pocket. Unless desperate, I would not consider one for defense. There are much better tools for that job. Steel ball bearings and marbles are traditional ammo, along with found rounded rocks.
