Nights down into the 40's & 50's. Acorns dropping like.....well, acorns? Leaves starting to turn on some trees.

Central MD - I saw a wooly caterpillar (or some call it a woolybear caterpillar) on Sunday in my garden. It was completely BROWN. Not a hint of black anywhere on it. Folklore would say that means we are going to have an almost non-existent winter. I somehow doubt that. But we'll see.

From what I've seen forecasted the Southeastern region is supposed to have a mild winter.

Another snowmegadon in the works according to Murphy

I had previously reported that we had no mullien in our central CO area. Well, it has come back and caught up. Now the stems on many of the plants are 3' to 4' tall, which would suggest a winter with a lot of precipitation if the old wives tale is accurate.

99 here today with heat index of 104. I’ll be freezing my ass off. I hate winter. (BTW, the thread title should say FALL rather than WINTER. JMHO.)

I’m in Nebraska and recently my birds outside that I feed are consistently eating from dusk to dawn and hardly ever leave the bird feeder. My kitty watches them from the bay window, bird feeder close and has constant entertainment. I’ve never ever seen them eat all the time! Also getting big horse flies sneaking in the house and noticed they act like they are ready to hibernate, like they are drugged! Hardly flying around! And yesterday was the first day of it being a little cooler yet nice!

Yup; it's now monsoon season here. Overcast, gray days even when the wet isn't falling. Cooling off early, too. Some years we still have 90 degree temps in September. BTW- I was cleaning pics off my phone, and deleted pics of the last snow we had, in April. So instead of the 6 mos of growing season we have some years; this year was 4 mos.

On The Level
So far, nothing really. Usually see a few leaves on the lawn and road in mid-August. At this point, some of the ground vegetation is beginning to dwindle and die. But the all the leaves have done is turned a lighter shade of green. It has got down to high 50s, low 60s a few nights in September. Hopefully Summer sticks around a little longer.

10:23 am right now here in south central Wyoming. Deep blue sky, and 58°. Barely see the wildfire smoke right now, but the forecast is for the smoke to increase by late afternoon. Had a light frost last night, but the rest of the week is low 40s.

I’ve not seen any mule deer the past few days, which is strange here in town. Normally you’ll see them most anywhere.

ETA :: 9/11/22 18:47…saw a mule deer yearling while walking Angel this evening. I think it’s the same one from a couple of weeks ago. It was in the fresh green grass in front of the complex’s office…

Not as many crows or ravens flying all around…which reminds me…

Northeast Minnesota here. The last few days have been pretty cold at night. I normally like the window open at night but not when the temp is in the 40s! The mornings and evenings have been cold enough in the house that we are thinking about lighting a fire in the evenings to take the chill off, warm things up a bit.

I haven't noticed if the geese have been heading south yet. I'll keep an eye out for them. But the trees are starting to turn now on our land. I've seen trees turning elsewhere, but not yet on our land.

We've still got wood to stack so we'd better get the job done in the next few weeks. Have some other outside jobs to get done pdq, too. Never know when we are going to get hit with snow around here.

North to the Future
Matanuska/Susitna Valley here, a bit north of Anchorage. The Talkeetna Range has had good snow cover for a few days, melts off, comes back. The Chugach Range East and the Kenai Range south are about the same - though I think Pioneer Peak now won’t lose the new stuff til next June. The rivers are still open and we got close to frost last week - but not quite. Lots of snow back above the Knik Glacier. No snow blanketing Sleeping Lady yet, but leaves and the Hay Flats are all mostly golden now.

I’m prepared for a cold wet icy winter - I’d much prefer snow. I just hope all the volcanoes in the area will be polite and keep to themselves. Plan to plant next year’s garlic tomorrow - everything else got taken care of early. The mountain ash trees here have never been so laden with berries…I hope to catch some pics of the waxwings when they come!

The oak tree in my back yard here in Norcal is starting to drop acorns...and they are huge. I seem to remember an old wives tale about the coming winter and the size of acorns but I can't for the life of me recall what large versus small acorns meant. I really hope it is a sign of a wet winter. We need every drop of water we can get. Fingers crossed:hmm:

Thursday the high here was 97. Last night the low was 38. I haven't been out yet (massive headache probably due to the weather change), but I'll see how my garden did.

I'm sorry to hear this. I have them too.

I hope your feeling better soon.

No acorns here.

Deer & pigs will be hungry.

Thinking about doing a food plot for deer, but no rain in the forecast.

I saw that it snow in the upper elevations in Glacier NP and today saw there was snow in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. Here in central Indiana temps were hot yesterday. Was able to get some yard work done, but I have some projects that I'm going to have to wait till cooler temps.
