Seattle City Council Overrides Mayor's Veto, Begins to Defund the Police
Joel B. Pollak
2-3 minutes

The Seattle City Council overrode Mayor Jenny Durkan’s veto Tuesday evening and forced through budget cuts that activists say are a “down payment” on an effort to defund the police in the city by 50%.

In July, a veto-proof majority of council members backed a proposal to defund the police by 50%. Those cuts could not be implemented in one year, however, so the council settled on cutting 100 officers from the department this year as a “down payment.”
Mayor Durkan, who had initially backed the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” (CHAZ) or “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest” (CHOP) protest in the summer, vetoed the proposal, but her veto was ineffective.

The Seattle Times reported:
The Seattle City Council voted Tuesday to override Mayor Jenny Durkan’s vetoes of council bills meant to start shrinking the police force and scaling up community solutions this year. Council members chose to stick with the 2020 budget bills instead of a substitute proposal that the mayor had said she could accept.
The veto-override votes on the three bills were preceded by more than an hour of public comments, with most speakers urging council members to “hold the line” against the mayor and demonstrate they were listening to the Black Lives Matter movement. Several council members then sharply defended the bills as reasonable first steps toward revamping public safety in Seattle.

Councilmember Kshama Sawant credited “ferocious” pressure by the Black Lives Matter movement in recent days for Tuesday’s result, noting several colleagues kept constituents in suspense until the last minute.
Police chief Carmen Best resigned over the council’s efforts to cut her salary and her department’s budget.

The Seattle vote happened the night before riots associated with Breonna Taylor protests.

We had an article in the Seattle Times. A total of 126 downtown businesses have permanently closed their doors. Columbia Sportswear was the latest citing the crime, danger and shoplifting as the biggest problems. The Seattle City council is clueless about the effects of their decisions. Facebook is moving to Bellevue, and Amazon is allowing employees to choose a remote office outside of Seattle. Amazon also gave up the lease on one of their buildings. I would not want to own commercial real estate in Seattle, or live in the city area.

this is so stupid it is amazing. if the citizens let the town council get away with this, they all will deserve what comers next. all the cops should walk. i feel sorry for any remaining sane people and hope they can all escape

until thinking people grow some courage, and kick the stupids out of leadership positions in the city starting with the mayor and city council you can write Seattle off, these people are clueless as to what the real world is about as for the officers it is time for them to stand down and protect their own families,

Antifa Assaulted a Seattle Cop, and Antifa Doesn't Want You to Know

I honestly don't know if this peaceful protest where a cop was almost murdered was Breonna Taylor-related or just Biden supporters Antifa being Biden supporters Antifa. We're back in Seattle, so really it's a coin toss (see SEATTLE POLICE OFFICER SPEAKS OUT AFTER BEING INJURED BY LIBERAL ACTIVISTS and FATHER OF TEEN MURDERED IN CHOP IS DEMANDING ANSWERS FROM THE SEATTLE MAYOR WHO LET IT HAPPEN).

I do know that when you go to hit someone in the head with an aluminum baseball bat, it's usually with the intention of that person no longer being alive. Thankfully for this Seattle police officer, it was someone from Antifa swinging the bat. Had it been a an actual grown-ass adult with upper arm strength, this would be a different blog post.

Now, if I were a social justice warrior and I saw one of my colleagues try to murder a police officer, I would want that person caught. Being associated with that person would speak ill of all the social justice issues I'm super-serious about. And some of the guy's Antifa colleagues did in fact speak out. They spoke out to the person who posted the video, because they were concerned that the other rioters might get caught. You know, priorities and all that.

I should be more outraged, and I would be if the officer were seriously injured or worse. But I think I might be growing numb to these videos. Though if you're going to attack the White House for declaring Seattle an "Anarchist zone," this video is Exhibit Q why they are.

No they're not.

The consequences are EXACTLY what the Marxists want.

Complete and total eradication of Capitalism and the Middle Class
In a sense, you are correct, but you haven't taken it far enough.

In short, the plan is gentrification, but in a Marxist manner. There are some very well-connected, very wealthy people who want the businesses to leave. But, the businesses that are leaving need to leave the real estate; they can't take it with them. The real estate will then discounted heavily (more than 50%, wait and see). This should happen by next year.

Watch to see who buys it. It could even be Bezos.

Then, the city will get tough on crime and the real estate values will climb. They will say it was the will of the people, and there will likely be a real Marxist bent to the recovery. They will no doubt keep the methods they use to eliminate the threats from the mass public. But, it's how the Brown-Shirts work.

I suspect the same thing will happen in all the cities having these uncontrolled riots and crime.

The wealthy people "reinvesting" in these blighted areas will be hailed as heros. They are not. They are evil incarnate who have caused unbearable pain and suffering to inumerable citizens. It was their plan from the beginning to profit; and damned the consequences to the unwashed masses, because their lives don't matter.
