Just passing this along as an FYI. I just got this in an email from NC DMV

Dear myNCDMV subscriber:
We want to inform you of a recent surge in text message scams in which fraudsters impersonate state agencies, including the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) and the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

Please reference this press release from NCDMV on June 3rd:
https://www.ncdot.gov/news/press-releases/Pages/2025/2025-06-03-ncdmv-scam-fraudulent-text-messages.aspx

These text messages falsely claim recipients owe unpaid fines, fees, or tolls and are sent at random to individuals in an attempt to steal personal and financial information.
Please note that North Carolina fees are never collected through unsolicited texts, instant messages, or emails.
myNCDMV is North Carolina's official fee payment system, operated by the NCDMV. Official communication regarding fees or account status will direct you to log into your secure myNCDMV account or contact customer service directly. You receive this communication because you've established a myNCDMV account.
What to do if you receive a scam message:
  • Do NOT click on any links in the text message.
  • Do NOT provide any personal or payment information.
  • Delete the message immediately.
Text message scams such as these are successful because they attempt to scare people into acting quickly, often using language like 'final notice' or referencing threatening penalties.
If you receive a text message claiming to be about unpaid fines, fees, or tolls that you suspect is a scam, please report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
Protecting your information is important. Fraudsters constantly change tactics to exploit unsuspecting individuals through deceptive text messages. Stay informed and stay vigilant against these fraudulent attempts.

Yeah. This has been going on in Florida for some time. Usually they say there are unpaid tickets/fines and if not paid by a certain date fees will dramatically increased. To paid said ticket/fine go to their website. Municipal services don't give direct links. At best they say go to the city/state website and then navigate from there.

My wife and daughter got them from DMV texts. Right off its not called DMV in our state, second they dont text. Delete and block. Got one from supposed Robin saying someone attempted to log into my account in Portugal. I dont have a Robinhood account. Got two emails with a Wells Fargo logo in it. Sent from two different Gmail accounts. Dont have one of those accounts either.
