Dh just ordered this from Harbor Freight. Since lumber is getting more and more expensive, if you can get it, he figured it would pay for itself in a year or so. The cost, including shipping, is $2399. He's always got a building project or three going on, which he loves to do.

Get it level and on a good bed so it doesnt move. Get extra blades as they can snap. I hope he has a good way to get the logs to the mill as these are not something you just move around. It really needs to be permanently mounted so the rails dont flex. Coworker had one of these and it did well enough for what he wanted it for which was milling material to build a barn but it took a fair amount of tweaking and modifying to run well. Mostly in the rails and base. He actually built up a gravel pad and mounted it on PT 6xs or 8xs. Definitely not in the Wood mizer class but when he was done he was able to sell it and recover a good chunk of his money.

The extra cost not advertised is the small to large tractor one needs to pull drag and set logs onto the mill for milling. And what's also been said above about reinforcing and building a heavyduty base etc..

I'm tempted to buy one too!

During Hurricane Laura a huge pine tree fell and he grieved over the waste. He bought some kind of thing to cut wood from it, but it takes a long time to do it plus he has a hard time keeping it running (I have no link, he can't remember where he bought it from). So he decided to buy this sawmill. He just built a huge, heavy duty trailer (he used the axils from my camper, it was never going to be moved anyway) and he is going to mount the saw mill on the trailer, it has two axils. He also has a tractor.

The wood is all across the road, he rigged up a way to bring the big pieces of wood across the road, but the sawmill will be portable and he can take it over there.

Even if it never pays for itself in lumber, it will pay for itself in his joy of having it. He is the type of person that needs to be busy. He's careful and knows what he'd doing as most old country boys do.

Chicom, Honda knock-offs.

By all accounts, they are pretty good motors, for the price.

I've got one on a pressure washer, it has lasted longer than any others.

I get that. Just make sure he can level and support the trailer and that saw can take a 20" dia log max per the listing. He also may want to look at making extensions so he an cut longer logs. As for hauling the logs with a tractor make sure he has a sled or arch. My grandfather was killed twitching wood with a tractor. Log caught and the tractor flipped backwards crushing him. He had pulled logs like that his whole life and it didnt catch him until he was 79.

He's got something he rigged up to drag the logs. His trailer is very large and can accomodate the saw mill and he knows about having it level. He's very experienced at many things and is always very careful. He's 77.

DH picked up the sawmill on Wednesday in Shreveport. He was afraid the shipping company would not be able to get in and out of our driveway. By thursday he was cutting wood, even some 4x4s for the carport he's building. Because they are not treated he will set them on concrete, not in it. He said that way he can replace them if necessary.

All in all DH is very pleased with he. He is keeping track of what he cuts to determine when its paid for itself.
