safety of roaster...info

hi

yesterday i found this beautiful red roaster in an antique store. it was 14 dollars. it's enamel, very heavy and has a skirt thingy around the bottom of it. the inside, when you lift the lid, is not like a regular roaster with sides. this one is rounded on the bottom. on the side is embossed the word "savory".

i must not be a very good googlier :) because all i could come up with were savory dishes to make. :)

does anyone know about these? it's definitely enamel, but the red, do you think it would leach dye or something if i used it? it is in great shape. no dings, like enamal stuff usually has.

so, my questions are: does anyone know what decade these are from?
are they safe to use?
why the rounded bottom?
is there a skirt around the bottom for fireplace cooking?

thanks for any information anyone has.

A red one Wow!

If you put "savory roaster" you get hits. Don't forget the ". I don't know if it would be safe to use. The sides are rounder to keep juices closer to the meat. The side would have to come down straight or it would roll around in you oven. :sht: I found your roaster in baby blue, green, gray, dark blue, white and one white with red trim. I would have bought your roaster for that price as I think it is worth more. Don't know how old it is but I would guess pre 50s. I'll post a link from Ebay of the white with red trim.

:) Yes I do! Old thing's are better made and look nice. Everything now is made to be disposable. I most always buy old kitchen things if the price is right. They are hard to find unless you want to pay a lot. Find it odd that I couldn't find an all red one anywhere. They must not of made very many. Enjoy your find!
