Flightradar24 shows the C-17's latest activity over the past seven days:
Russian business news website RBC confirmed that a US military transport aircraft had landed at Moscow's Vnukovo International Airport.
Russian state-owned news agency TASS also reported that an "American Boeing C-17A Globemaster III military transport aircraft has reportedly landed in Moscow."

A source within EU air traffic control authorities told TASS that the plane, having originally flown from Andrews Air Force Base to Latvia, had indeed continued its journey toward the Russian border. The source confirmed that the aircraft proceeded toward Russia's border after its stop in Riga. Additionally, the source noted that prior to this, the plane had also visited Charleston Airport.
There has been no official confirmation from the US about the C-17's landing in Moscow. The flight could indicate support for a senior US delegation, the transportation of diplomatic cargo or a prisoner transfer. Keep in mind that Joint Base Andrews is a major hub for US government and military missions

A Lt Col in the Russian Airforce was killed immediately when a car bomb exploded that also severely injured his wife. As you are reading this there are also reports of thousands of Ukraine civilians fleeing Kiev ahead of Russia’s predicted retaliation. The serviceman was killed in an area heavily occupied by military personnel and their families.
This is the fourth car bomb in the past few months and the seventh Ukraine car/parcel bombing in the last few years. Zelenskyy is in Moldova today organizing new attacks against Russia.
RUSSIA – A senior Russian officer has been killed by a car bomb in St Petersburg, Russian media reported.
Footage posted on Telegram showed emergency workers and police flooding a street littered with the debris of an exploded vehicle and cordoning it off from the public.
An explosion sounded at around 10am near a Magnit supermarket in the suburban neighbourhood of Shushary, killing the lieutenant colonel and badly injuring his wife, according to Fontanka, a St Petersburg news publication, which cited eyewitnesses.

There are now various rumors that hundreds of thousands of Russian military-aged men are fleeing via the Georgian border. This is likely exaggeration, but I can personally confirm that a number of younger Russian men are in fact fleeing amidst the internal belief that some kind of mobilization is imminent—this is indisputable fact.
However, the most honest man in Kiev, Kyrylo Budanov—and I do not mean that sarcastically—himself dispelled these rumors, admitting that Russia is not planning any kind of mobilization at all. Watch toward the end:
The first half of the interview, he admits Ukraine requires 30,000 men per month just to “maintain” what it currently has—an obvious indication of its losses. Recall that Zelensky declared Ukraine’s total losses since the start of the war are a mere 50,000.

It appears more and more likely, then, that the CIA director’s true mission to Moscow was essentially an attempt to stop Russia from finishing off Ukraine. There are multiple possibilities for how this could have worked. One of them is that he carried with him an implied threat of European escalation. By warning Russia not to escalate against Europe, he may have instead dropped the obvious hint that Russia itself would be forced into a European escalation if Russia does not back its foot off the gas on Ukrainian strikes.

In addition to massive strikes on warehouses and trade logistics, the Russians have started using a tactic again that was first used back in May - round-the-clock “Shahed” drone attacks. Especially on Kiev and the surrounding region.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces report that the number of attacking drones has generally increased - this week, their number has more than doubled to over 250 per night. According to official Ukrainian data, it is not possible to shoot down about 30-35 of these drones in each attack.
And today, Ukraine was attacked by another 224 drones (of which 25 could not be shot down). A week earlier, the number of drones never reached two hundred.
But in this case, it’s not the quantity that matters, but the method of use. The drones attack in small groups or even individually, from different directions, and simultaneously targeting multiple objectives. This entire “carousel” continues for hours - and almost without interruption. Air raid alerts in Kiev have been reaching 11-13 hours - almost half a day.
Moreover, the strikes on warehouses and other facilities are likely not directly related to this tactic - they are happening independently, and mainly at night, when it is more difficult to shoot down drones. As for the attacks during the day, they likely serve other purposes in Kiev.
Firstly, to reduce the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense, which is simply overloaded by these constant attacks.
Moreover, the proportion of jet-powered “Shaheds” is increasing, which are more difficult to shoot down with mobile groups and cannot be shot down by drone interceptors - jet drones fly higher, faster, and maneuver better. This is also due to constant communication with the operator and better equipment with AI tools (which has already been acknowledged by Ukrainian experts).
If in the spring, 25-30% were jet-powered “Gerans,” now it has become the majority, according to an official statement from the Air Force for today. Ukraine has repeatedly reported on the expansion of production of these models in Russia.
An exhausted air defense system may react worse to other, more massive attacks.
Secondly, these attacks are drastically worsening life in Kiev, which is paralyzed by constant air raid alerts. Businesses are primarily affected, as they are forced to stop working during the attacks. This creates additional stress on the retail sector, which has already suffered enormous damage after Russian strikes on warehouses.
Moreover, while in previous years businesses began to suffer major losses in the winter, when there were interruptions in electricity and heating, this year the problems started much earlier. At the same time, the upcoming winter has not been canceled, which, according to government forecasts, may be the most difficult in history.
Therefore, Russia’s calculation may be to create additional pressure on large businesses and the Ukrainian economy as a whole - which, apparently, is intended to increase pressure on Zelensky to end the war on Russian terms.
Former Foreign Minister Kuleba stated directly that the goal of these attacks is “to direct the people’s anger at the authorities.”
At the same time, we have already outlined the likely considerations of the Ukrainian authorities, which consider losses for businesses acceptable - given comprehensive support from the West. However, this is an extremely risky strategy that could lead to the destruction of the Ukrainian economy - without guarantees that the same West will finance its restoration after the war. And there are no guarantees that aid will remain stable until the end of the war. And that in itself is a huge risk for Ukraine.

Amid two days of talks among G20 finance ministers and central bank heads gathered in Asheville, North Carolina, an unexpected and deeply awkward issue (for some) has emerged.
The whole session is being overshadowed by the fact that the White House welcomed Russia to the meeting, which has set off anger and frustration among the Europeans. Also, some key media outlets and prominent reporters have been banned from the summit.
G20: an "unexpected" Russian guest.
Late Monday, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov made an unexpected appearance after his official US invite, and then was welcomed by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for a bilateral meeting.
This marks Russia's first in-person invite to the G20 since the start of the Ukraine war in February 2022 - and it is happening while the US holds the rotating G20 presidency and is playing host.
The two officials reportedly focused their talks economic cooperation and on finding a way forward on finding a peace deal in Ukraine. According to the focus of the diplomatic interaction:
"Receiving the Russian finance minister here sends a troubling signal," German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil said. "I made it clear to the Europeans this morning in the plenary session that I would not pose for a photo with the Russian finance minister," he told reporters.
Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski told Reuters that while he recognizes the right of the host country to invite guests, it remains that "We do not trust Russia. They lie constantly and you need to be really, really cautious while discussing with them." He emphasized "So for me it would be very difficult to have any kind of conversation with Russia."
This led to the Russian representative being banned from the family photo traditionally taken at the g20 summits. This decision was apparently due to pressure by the Europeans, who may have threatened not to show up for the photo op. In the end it was taken without Siluanov.

German Power Grid Hit Twice in Latest Suspected Sabotage

Germany’s power grid was hit twice in a single day on Tuesday, with incidents on opposite sides of the country knocking units of coal-fired power plants offline and authorities investigating possible terrorist or extremist motives.
The latest incident occurred in the industrial heartland surrounding the Rhine river on Tuesday evening, shutting off five units of RWE AG’s lignite-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 4.2 gigawatts. Earlier that morning, unknown perpetrators damaged several transmission lines in eastern Germany using homemade projectiles, triggering a temporary outage at LEAG’s Jänschwalde coal plant.
Germany has faced several attacks on its energy infrastructure this year, including a major arson attack in Berlin that caused a widespread blackout. While the attackers behind the latest events remain unknown, Germany is on high alert following a failed drone attack at Leipzig airport, which authorities have blamed on Russia.
Authorities are examining whether the two events in the west and east are connected, said Herbert Reul, the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, in a press conference on Wednesday. Investigators for the west German attack are exploring two possible motives — foreign state-directed sabotage and far-left extremism — while police in the eastern state of Brandenburg have opened an investigation that includes suspicion of forming a terrorist organization.
Grid operator Amprion said the incident on Tuesday evening occurred near its substation in Rommerskirchen in the Rhineland. It added that general power supply was not affected at any time and system stability was guaranteed.
RWE said the five lignite-fired power plant units included Neurath G and F and Niederaußem H, G and K. Most had been feeding electricity into the grid at the time of the incident. RWE said it will reconnect most of the units, with a combined capacity of 2.6 gigawatts, on Wednesday, and the remaining 1.6 gigawatts is expected to return over the weekend.
The local Essen police force said it was operating on the assumption of “a deliberate act, a criminal offense.”
Countries across Europe are racing to harden power grids against sabotage, cyberattacks and military threats. The push follows Russia’s repeated attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and a series of sabotage incidents across Europe.

The German economy ministry declined to comment on details of the two incidents, but said “acts of sabotage against critical infrastructure pose a serious threat.” Russia’s war of aggression, the rise in acts of sabotage targeting the economy and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events make it clear that Germany be better prepared with regard to critical infrastructure, a spokesperson added.
According to Talha Torlak, who leads short-term power trading at Vitus Commodities, there was a “very extreme deficit” on Tuesday evening between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. after RWE’s lignite units went offline. That pushed preliminary imbalance prices — the cost of correcting unexpected gaps between electricity supply and demand — to €5,000 per megawatt-hour. After 9 p.m. the system quickly stabilized, he said.

Germany’s power grid was hit twice in a single day on Tuesday, with incidents on opposite sides of the country knocking units of coal-fired power plants offline and authorities investigating possible terrorist or extremist motives.
The latest incident occurred in the industrial heartland surrounding the Rhine river on Tuesday evening, shutting off five units of RWE AG’s lignite-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 4.2 gigawatts. Earlier that morning, unknown perpetrators damaged several transmission lines in eastern Germany using homemade projectiles, triggering a temporary outage at LEAG’s Jänschwalde coal plant.
Germany has faced several attacks on its energy infrastructure this year, including a major arson attack in Berlin that caused a widespread blackout. While the attackers behind the latest events remain unknown, Germany is on high alert following a failed drone attack at Leipzig airport, which authorities have blamed on Russia.
Authorities are examining whether the two events in the west and east are connected, said Herbert Reul, the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, in a press conference on Wednesday. Investigators for the west German attack are exploring two possible motives — foreign state-directed sabotage and far-left extremism — while police in the eastern state of Brandenburg have opened an investigation that includes suspicion of forming a terrorist organization.
Grid operator Amprion said the incident on Tuesday evening occurred near its substation in Rommerskirchen in the Rhineland. It added that general power supply was not affected at any time and system stability was guaranteed.
RWE said the five lignite-fired power plant units included Neurath G and F and Niederaußem H, G and K. Most had been feeding electricity into the grid at the time of the incident. RWE said it will reconnect most of the units, with a combined capacity of 2.6 gigawatts, on Wednesday, and the remaining 1.6 gigawatts is expected to return over the weekend.
The local Essen police force said it was operating on the assumption of “a deliberate act, a criminal offense.”
Countries across Europe are racing to harden power grids against sabotage, cyberattacks and military threats. The push follows Russia’s repeated attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and a series of sabotage incidents across Europe.

The German economy ministry declined to comment on details of the two incidents, but said “acts of sabotage against critical infrastructure pose a serious threat.” Russia’s war of aggression, the rise in acts of sabotage targeting the economy and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events make it clear that Germany be better prepared with regard to critical infrastructure, a spokesperson added.
According to Talha Torlak, who leads short-term power trading at Vitus Commodities, there was a “very extreme deficit” on Tuesday evening between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. after RWE’s lignite units went offline. That pushed preliminary imbalance prices — the cost of correcting unexpected gaps between electricity supply and demand — to €5,000 per megawatt-hour. After 9 p.m. the system quickly stabilized, he said.

FRANKFURT, Sept 2 (Reuters) - German police were on Wednesday investigating a second sabotage attempt on the electricity grid within 24 hours, a day after Berlin blamed Russia for an attempted drone attack at an airport.
The incidents come at a sensitive moment, with the far-right Alternative for Germany(AfD) - which wants closer German ties with Moscow - topping polls before a state election this weekend, and Berlin facing a growing threat of hybrid warfare.
The government said on Tuesday it had concluded that Russia was behind the attempted drone attack on a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle airport last month - an incident which European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Wednesday bore all the hallmarks of state-sponsored terrorism.
Moscow says there is no evidence to support the accusations that it was behind the attack, but German authorities are on high alert for attacks on vital infrastructure.
'PREMEDITATED VANDALISM'
Local police said they were investigating an act of premeditated vandalism on the technical infrastructure of a power substation near the western city of Bergheim at 1800 GMT on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson declined to specify the damage but said the region's power supply was not affected.
Electricity grid operator Amprion, which is majority-owned by Germany's largest power producer RWE, said it was likely that external interference caused the incident and that power supply and grid stability were upheld throughout.
RWE said in a separate statement that the incident had prompted five lignite power plant units with 4,200 megawatts (MW) in combined capacity to go off the grid.
One of the affected blocks covering 600 MW has been reconnected, the company said.
SABOTAGE ON EASTERN POWER GRID
Also on Tuesday, devices carrying conductive material damaged power lines at one of the most critical high-voltage nodes in the eastern state of Brandenburg.
Brandenburg's interior minister, Jan Redmann, said there appeared to be parallels between the attacks but that investigations were at a very early stage.
He said there were some differences between the Brandenburg attack and a 2024 arson attack by far-left extremists targeting the power supply of Tesla's German plant, but he could not rule out any suspects.
Alexander Throm, who heads German parliament's domestic affairs committee, told Reuters the number of disruptive incidents before this weekend's election in the state of Saxony-Anhalt was "extremely suspicious".
Opinion polls suggest the AfD, an anti-immigrant party with strong support in the east, could win power for the first time at state level. The party has called for an end to German support for Ukraine and a resumption of energy agreements with Moscow that provided Germany with cheap oil and gas until supplies were halted in 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Leonhard Birnbaum, CEO of Europe's largest network operator E.ON, said last month that full protection of grid infrastructure was illusory, adding operators could make it as hard as possible for perpetrators but not fully avoid attacks.
Calling for better protection, Redmann said: "Just a few weeks ago, we were discussing our airports at length; now, the focus has shifted back to energy supply facilities."
