Austin police are bracing for chaos as heavily-armed activists from rival groups face off in the city one week after a protester was shot dead.
On Saturday evening, a group of gun-toting men were seen protecting left-wing demonstrators at a makeshift memorial for Garrett Foster - the 28-year-old who was killed during a BLM march in Austin last weekend.
Across the street, camouflage clad members of the far-right paramilitary group Three Percenters stood watching on, brandishing semiautomatic weapons in an intimidating manner.
Members of another far-right group - Boogaloo Boys - were also spotted cutting an imposing figure at the memorial.
Police have bolstered their forces amid fears that tensions between the two groups could explode.

The Austin Police Department released a statement saying they have called in extra cops to help protect both people and property should things go awry.
'We are bringing in the necessary staff, and have partnered with other local law enforcement agencies as we have done throughout the past few months, to allow for those peacefully and lawfully practicing their first amendment rights while also working to prevent any violence or destruction of property,' a statement from the Department read.
Those paying tribute to Foster linked up with a separate rally to 'amplify Black Austin voices and demand defunding of the Austin Police Department' which moved through the city.
In a video shared to Twitter by , officers on horseback and bicycles were seen controlling crowds shortly before sundown as they moved down the street.
Some protesters started to clash with cops, spooking the horses and causing a commotion.
'F**k you!' several activists were seen yelling at the officers, as those on bikes rode in quickly to assist.
Meanwhile, police issued a warning to locals living in the downtown area to be 'on guard' amid rumors activists could break into high-rise residential buildings and stage rallies from rooftops.
Two police helicopters were reported to be circling over the city at 8pm.
While there was no reports of violence early in the evening, cops and protesters did clash at Foster's memorial site. In a Twitter video, one activist was heard yelling in a megaphone that cops were 'f**king pigs', as some agitators became involved in a scuffle with officers.
After sundown, a wall of police officers with shields were seen forming a protective barrier in the city's downtown.

Austin is on high-alert following the shocking slaying of Foster at the BLM march last Saturday night.
Army Sergeant Daniel Perry, 33, opened fire on Foster after driving into a crowd of demonstrators.
Perry claims he came across the protest by accident while working as a ride share driver, and that he only opened fire in 'self defense' after Foster allegedly waved his AK-47 at him.
A memorial was quickly established in the city complete with flowers, candles and tributes. However, the memorial was damaged by a right-wing activist who claimed Foster was a 'terrorist' who was 'rightfully and legally euthanized'.
The vandalism has further fueled tensions in the city.

Perry claims he came across the protest by accident while working as a ride share driver, and suddenly felt threatened amid the large crowd.
Garrett Foster - who was marching with his disabled fiancée Whitney Mitchell - was armed with an AK-47.
According to Perry, Foster began waving the weapon in his direction, causing him to pull out his own gun and shoot Foster in self-defense.
Foster, 28, a former US Air Force mechanic, was shot three times and later died in his hospital from injuries.

Slant the article a bit did you, you Spineless English soyboy? Oh, dreaded "right wing" militia but armed Marxists are ok, then. Listen, you British turd, go back to England and grovel a bit more, and let some Muslim rape squads get some more action.

Hmm, maybe they are at a different multnomah sherriff office. The one out on 122nd and Burnside is where the CHL permits are handled. I am not sure where this SE facility is. Being Portland, they could likely burn that neighborhood down before they ran into an armed civilian like moi.:D

I think the not so peaceful protesters are finding out the rule change outside the confines of Portland, Seattle and other progressive enclaves.

The fun and games are over when you're face to chest with a Percheron or Clydesdale. Doubt many of those citified protesters have ever been up close and personal with a ton of workhorse.

Fair use.

Austin, Texas: Mounted police broke up crowds of Black Lives Matter (and Antifa) failing to follow orders to disperse occupied intersection. The rioting crowd chanting ‘Take it to the streets, F*ck the Police’ went back several times throughout the night. Large number of State Troopers assisted in policing. The BLM narrative “mounted police trampling down peaceful protesters” (Candice Bernd).

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…
One year during college, several of us met in NYC to do St. Patrick's day. It was as you would expect a liquor driven affair... At some point while in Manhatten, the police needed to clear a square.

They used PA's and told the people to clear the streets, at which point, we actively moved away from the large group and square.

As we were moving away, a number of mounted policemen moved in and used their mounts to "encourage" the folks there to move. I will never forget seeing them turn those horses sideways and start walking them at the crowd, which did move and pretty damned quickly.

Very impressive and effective.

The more I see these aggressive 'protestors' and listen to their foul mouthed chants the more I want them all arrested and held without bail while awaiting prosecution for sedition. Despite all of their claims of noble causes in the end they are nothing more that communist revolutionaries attempting to use mob violence to overthrow the various governments that stand between them and their beloved dictatorship.

You are much more easy going with how you would have them treated.

Absolutely NOTHING to do with Trump. Everything to do with the idiot governors and mayors of these states and cities.

governors are limited in most states - they need that all necessary request from the mayor of the city - they can stage troops - send troopers in for state law enforcement - take certain steps when road closures are concerned >>> it's not they have supreme power

Correct. No one with half a brain travels I-35 through Austin unless they have no choice. It’s a near-24-hour parking lot as it is.

I drove it Friday just a little slow down, go to Chicago if you want to see a real traffic jam.

I will go 30+ miles out of my way to drive through the woods, east of I-35.

Normally it's faster or takes the same amount of time.

A much more pleasant drive.

The same holds true for I-45 from DFW to Houston. It starts getting constipated 30-50 miles north of Huntsville. When there is a wreck, you are locked in the parking lot.

4WD is a bonus for skipping over to the service roads...if there are any.

Oh, so you mean they are limited by the constitution and local laws. Kinda like Trump who gets trashed for everything that happens and has to listen to ignorant people saying he should go in with storm troopers and shut it all down

been in just about every US city of all sizes >> you obviously haven't been thru LA, NYC or some of the older East Coast cities - 10X worse daily than Chicago on it's worse - there's actually two daily rush hours in the city with predictable in & out flow - LA is just about 24 hours a day and NYC isn't much better going between burroughs and using bridges ....

Boston is scary. It's FAST driving, and if you can't keep up with it or the constant weaving in and out, then you're screwed.

I had heard about this from relative yesterday and almost posted.
He drove over to observe and saw lots of people with guns but said police corralled protestors quickly. One block area closed off. He said antifa types seemed very young/ inexperienced. Not like in Portland. Saw few blm types but thought they were little scared too. Many had already been arrested.
We shall see what happens next.

Austin Police, Texas State Troopers Prevent Violence and Arrest Many

Austin police warn protesters not to block streets or they will be arrested, Aug. 1, 2020. Image from Twitter video.

Rumors and intel flew around for days leading up to Saturday, August 1. Dozens of activists were being bussed into Austin, Texas from Portland and Seattle to do to this city what they have done to both of those. Rumors suggested they wanted to destroy Austin police headquarters, the Texas state capitol, or both.

Downtown apartment residents received flyers warning them that the outsiders might attempt to gain entry to their buildings to get to the roof.

It should go without saying this activity would put numerous innocent people in harm’s way and constitute egregious violations of private property rights. Antifa and BLM activists have repeatedly demonstrated their disdain for the latter by destroying, defacing, and looting private property. Protesters surrounding cars, assaulting and shooting drivers and other innocents have repeatedly demonstrated their disdain for the former as well.

Protesters also targeted Austin city council member Kathy Tovo with a march on her home because she is the lone member of the council who has not committed to their demand to gut the Austin police budget. Tovo intends to gut it, but not by as much as the protesters demand.

The flyer above and other information suggested the groups intended to attack Austin police headquarters. The headquarters building has been the site of protests and often violent riots over the past two months. The activists have attempted to storm the building in the past but failed.

Saturday’s protest activity was billed as the biggest yet, at least in part due to the shooting of Garrett Foster. Foster was the man who apparently pointed his AK-47 rifle at the car window of driver Daniel Perry while protesters surrounded and pounded on his car during an unpermitted protest and illegal taking of the public street just before 10 PM on July 25. Perry, an Army sergeant and licensed handgun carrier, fired his weapon after Foster had used his rifle to order Perry to roll his car window down. Pointing a gun at someone can, obviously, be read as hostile action. Texas castle law covers drivers in vehicles defending themselves, including the use of deadly force.

APD and the Texas Department of Public Safety were ready for Saturday’s action, making this post short.

Law enforcement were deployed and ready downtown. According to a source familiar with Saturday’s events, no officers were injured. Little force was used in shutting down the protest — which illegally blocked streets and was intended to bring violence to Austin. No property was damaged despite the protesters’ plan. They did take roads illegally, briefly including Interstate 35, the main highway that runs through downtown Austin. Protesters harassed innocent diners and others downtown.

Many of the protesters were carrying rifles. Their illegal blocking of roads prompted the black driver in the top tweet to confront them directly.
‘I’ve got bills! I’ve got kids! Get the f**k out of my way!’ he continues shouting before he makes his way back to his pick-up truck.
They got out of his way. But not before cameras could capture them for identification.

The protesters hopefully learned two lessons.

One: Texas is not Oregon or Washington State.

Two: Don’t mess with Texas.

A few dozen protesters were arrested Saturday night.

They came to Austin for their little vacation, but some will leave at least on probation.

Overnight Riot Report — Austin Edition: Texas Police Don’t Even Wait for the Sun to Go Down
Posted at 6:30 am on August 2, 2020 by Shipwreckedcrew

Word on the net tonight was that the action was going to be — supposedly — in Austin, Texas as Antifa/BLM was holding a memorial for Garrett Foster, the moron who pointed the business end of an AK-47 at active duty Army Sargent Daniel Perry, who is well trained to not wait for the other guy to shoot first once engaged. The not-so-well-trained former Air Force mechanic Foster ended up on the losing end of a shootout due to his failure to get off a shot.

Perry was driving for a rideshare company during his off duty hours on Saturday night last weekend when he turned down a street in downtown Austin, only to encounter protesters blocking his path. Foster was among the group of protesters who moved to surround Perry’s car. Foster was openly carrying an assault rifle over his shoulder, legal in the State of Texas. Foster approached the driver’s side of the car and — using the assault rifle barrel — motioned for Perry to roll down his window. When Perry did he quickly realized Foster was not with law enforcement. When Foster pointed the barrel of the assault rifle in Perry’s direction, Perry used a handgun he carried for personal protection and shot Foster believing that Foster may have been preparing to shoot him. Perry drove a short distance to safety away from the crowd, called the police, and waited for them to arrive. He cooperated with the police from the beginning and was released without charges being filed on Monday morning.

Antifa/BLM protesters were out in decent numbers, and the action got started much earlier than was the case normally in Portland.

I guess maybe accuracy with pepper spray is higher during daylight hours.
