Rochester OB/GYN doctor accused of impregnating woman after telling her she would be inseminated by anonymous donor

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A lawsuit was filed on Saturday against a Rochester OB/GYN doctor, accusing him of impregnating a woman after telling her she would be inseminated by an anonymous donor.

Dr. Morris Wortman is being sued by his alleged biological daughter, Morgan Hellquest.

The lawsuit says in 1983, the plaintiff's mother Mrs. Levey, became a patient of Dr. Morris Wortman at his OB/GYN medical practice in Rochester. The practice offered fertility medicine to patients trying to conceive a child.

In late 1983 through January 1985, the lawsuit says Wortman inseminated Mrs. Levey two to three times monthly in either his office or at Highland Hospital in exchange for Levey's payment of $50.00 in cash or check for each insemination. The suit claims Levey was under the impression she was receiving an anonymous medical student’s live sperm. In January 1985, Wortman inseminated Levey with a live sperm she became pregnant.

Hellquest says through DNA testing, she later discovered that she shared DNA with Wortman’s daughters and had six half-siblings with the same father.

The suit also claims Wortman has a family history of mental illness, despite telling Hellquest's mother and step-father that the true father would have a clean health history.

Hellquest's attorney says they are not commenting on the suit at this time.

Good. Hit him in the wallet and hit him hard.
He could have elicited George Floyd to furnish the specimen. If that were the case, there would have been a lot more funds available for the suit.

Ask for sperm, get sperm. The mother is the one who should have been sued as she was the one seeking 'sperm'.

The one filing suit needs to realize that Roe V Wade is still the law of the land... whether we like it or not. In some cases, it's just too bad that it can't be applied retroactively.

You'all realize, mom could have personally picked her sperm donor instead of choosing to spin the roulette wheel. What happens in Vegas... should stay in Vegas.

There is one fact that is probably understated in this discussion... the inherent 'mental illness' displayed by all parties involved... mom, dad and the one filing the suit.

Well....... she did. She wanted a healthy donor with no medical issues. And what did she get? Dr. Creepy.

Greetings from near tropical NYC!
Well.....he was a medical student at one time......:groucho: (gotta read that fine print)
One never stops being a student of medicine, there's always more to learn. Etc. etc.

But she was promised a donor without the actual medical problems this doc had.

And by rolling the dice, who knows, she could have had a chance of getting a fine upstanding specimen of a Scottish med student!!! :)

Does anyone ever wonder who actually volunteers to provide the specimens? I'm sure they are all upstanding, healthy, with no past 'mental history' persons... not these fine gents from Scotland. Then to think, you had to have 30 to 60 'volunteers' to provide the specimens as often as this fine lady attempted to become pregnant over this 12+ month period at 2 to 3 times a month.

If these attempts were done 'naturally' by 30 to 60 different guys... what would we be saying about 'mom'?

A few years ago I was looking at one of the DNA forums. There was a doctor on there who, as a med student had donated sperm. He said he had friends who had gone through terrible heartache trying to have a baby. So when he saw a poster asking for volunteers he thought if it would bring relief and joy to some distraught couple, why not. Years went by and he never thought any further about it. Then, out of the blue he had a communication from a young guy who'd done DNA testing and it led him to the, now, Doctor. He was very much besides himself because after answering the kid's message he'd had no further news from him. All he knew was the the kid was in university and in the middle of exams. So he was hoping that he was just busy, but he was desperate to find a way to get back in touch with him. He said "He's my son, I could help him and be there for him!" I never saw him post again but it had really affected him. Back when he was a student there was no thought of dna tests for the general public. I hope they reconnected and were able to forge a relationship.

The veneer has fallen off huh? My apologies if my touchy feely has dissipated to the point I am calling things like I see them, especially when it comes to gold digging thirty six years after the fact.

 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Gold digging? Hmmm............. First of all, the amount of squirting around this quack did under false pretenses, I think it's safe to say it's more about his MD license. For starters.

The problem here is that he represented the med students’ sperm as free of mental defects. And it goes without saying what he did was dead wrong, ethically, morally and legally. This doctor is a bipolar person and both his brother and mother had mental issues (or so the local newspaper said). So despite the kibitzing about anyone’s morality for trying to conceive, the woman was not given the product she and her husband paid for.

The story goes deeper. Not only did he help create this child, and he lied about medical issues to the Mom. Then it’s a given he delivered the claimant, that’s creepy on so many levels.

Then when his daughter grows up and has gyn troubles, guess who she goes to as her doctor. Yup, Dr. Daddy (who she has called “Uncle Mo” - because her parents had told her that she was a miracle he helped them achieve). She trusted him. Now that is off the charts creepy. He is doing pelvic exams on his own daughter.

That kind of violation is equitable to sexual assault. You don’t do pelvic exams on a woman you fathered. It’s wrong on all levels. I don’t blame the woman for suing.

And this is just one child of God knows how many.

And for the record, I personally know this man and I am shocked.

Oh... eww. The levels of gross there. And where it could have gone. Just eww. I would want to scrub with steel wool.
Now I really, really, really hope she gets the money. And gets his license revoked.

He is completely toast. Can you just imagine the thoughts in peoples heads right now that went to him for help conceiving? Every single one of them for the past 40 years will be doing a dna test on their kids. The lawsuits will be endless.

Oh, and the reason his daughter from his first marriage gave up her dna so easily? He divorced his first wife for a young woman in his office. His ex and kids went up to Washington state I believe. So no love loss on his daughters part after he "upgraded" her Mom to a younger model. Her handing over her dna is the ultimate Uno card.

AND the woman in the lawsuit said that during one visit, his current wife (who still works there) came into the office to look her over. He actually had her (daughter) remove her mask so the wife could look at her face!! Just to probably see if there was any resemblence to her own kid with Dr. Daddy. He also asked about her husband and her children. When doing her chart Mo said "you're such a good kid". Claimant said at that point, she knew something was wrong and it started her trail of discovery (or so the news said, I don't know her).

He is screwed.

I have never understood why so many women get turkey basted. Paraphrasing: "It's like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get." I think it proves that some women don't really care about the child they conceive; they just want a baby.

I just read that one of the sons has come forward. He is not suing, but his Mom is. He looks identical to Dr. Daddy.

Being male, you will never be able to understand biological imperatives like the clock is ticking. It's beyond ignorance or lack of education. You just CAN'T. So therefore neither can you empathize.

I don't know how in the 1980's you could "guarantee" someone was "free from medical defects". Even now with DNA there are no guarantees. I mean you could ask the student all the questions but perhaps he didn't really know the answers. His parents would likely still have been young enough not to have developed issues and he certainly would have been too young to have shown many potential imperfections.

My father had a sister who died at age 21 and her death certificate commented she had mental age of 5. No one ever talked about her or answered any questions asked. Now all are dead so there is no longer anyone to ask. She was kept hidden away so that a friend of my father's who was in his home every school day never knew he has a sister until she passed. A lot of families have "secrets" that younger family members don't know and the secrets die with the older family members.

Umm... it's not always the women. Husbands want children just as much.
