Tensions Rise In Seattle As CHOP Protesters Hang On, Demand City Defund Police Before Dismantling Demonstration
By Emily Zanotti

Jun 28th, 2020 DailyWire.com

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES - 2020/06/23: A placard seen outside the western wall of Seattle's Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) zone lists protester demands. Facing increasing pressure from residents and business owners, Mayor Jenny Durkan on Monday vowed to retake the police station she previously ordered surrendered. On Thursday, organizers of the Capitol Hill Occupied/Organized Protest (CHOP) in Seattle notified demonstrators that the protest was breaking up, that police would be returning to the city’s East Precinct, located in the six-block “autonomous zone,” and that the movement would become “virtual.”

Sunday morning, though, “several hundred” protesters remain in CHOP, The Wall Street Journal reports, and are refusing to dismantle the camp until their demand to defund and disband the Seattle Police Department is met.

Seattle city officials met with a group of protest organizers on Saturday, local news reports, as a way of negotiating an end to the “autonomous zone” which has occupied six blocks of the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood for more than two weeks. The city is increasingly desperate to dismantle the CHOP, particularly after being hit with a lawsuit from longtime Capitol Hill residents and business owners who claim the city has tolerated the CHOP’s presence, allowing lawlessness.

But even after offering increased social services to CHOP’s “residents,” Seattle officials say many of the protesters are refusing to leave.

“Several hundred demonstrators are staying in an autonomous area claimed by protesters for racial justice in Seattle, even as its size is shrinking and pressure to shut it down completely is increasing from local businesses and residents, as well as city officials,” WSJ reports Sunday.

‘On Friday morning, city crews arrived to remove some road barriers in the occupation zone and begin cleaning up a city park there,” the WSJ continues, “but were met with ‘significant resistance by protesters, who grew increasingly agitated and aggressive,’ a spokesman for the mayor said. The crews later retreated.”

“When the city Department of Transportation workers arrived at 5:30 a.m Friday to remove the barriers, they were prevented from doing so by at least one protester who lay down on the street in front of a backhoe, preventing its operator from removing the barrier,” KOMO Seattle added.

The Seattle city budget, introduced late last week, does call for a reduction in police funding, but officials are willing to cut only about $20 million from law enforcement budgets — a mere 10% of what protesters are actually asking for.

“Let it be clear: We will not be bought off,” one of the remaining protesters told reporters. “We are here to dismantle systemic racism.”

CHOP’s denizens also say they’re not concerned about local businesses and longterm residents, who, in their complaint filed last week, claimed CHOP was playing host to “armed protesters barring vehicular access to homes and businesses, the blocking of police from responding to calls, including the fatal shooting, and pervasive graffiti.”

“If they are upset about graffiti and violence, I can only imagine how upset they are about the police killing of black people,” one CHOP protester, who has been “supporting” his “community” with musical performances told WSJ.

t Least One Person Dead Ater Shooting at Seattle CHOP Protest Area
Jun 29, 2020

Bloomberg QuickTake News

One man has been killed and another was wounded in Seattle's occupied protest zone. The shooting early Monday was the second fatal shooting in the area. Police said it happened in the city's Capitol Hill neighborhood near downtown.

The Seattle Times reports that Harborview Medical Center said one of the wounded males was brought to the hospital in a private vehicle at about 3:15 a.m. The second was brought in by Seattle Fire Department medics about 15 minutes later. The hospital says one man died and the other was in critical condition. Seattle police did not immediately release details about the shooting.

The violence came just days after crews arrived with heavy equipment at CHOP (Capitol Hill Occupied Protest) zone in Seattle, ready to dismantle barriers set up after protesters seized the area June 8 following clashes with police.

"This is still a barricade, and this is the public street where cars drive every single day. We had been told by the mayor to push our barricades in closer so we can have less security," said activist Derreck Allen Jones II. "So thankfully, we stood up for ourself against terrorist so we can have the protection that we did.

But if we would have had a barricade right here on the street, this would have never happened."

Protesters want the removal of legal protections known as “qualified immunity” for police who violate rights of members of the public - an issue that would need to be addressed in state law, not by the city. The demonstrators have also called for cutting the Seattle police budget 50% and spending the savings on community health and other programs. The mayor has proposed a much more modest cut of $20 million to help balance the city's budget through the end of this year.

Ive noticed fewer black people, even in DC. Those remaining appear to me to be the trained pros.

What happened to the hispanic population? Are they all white now?

Defund police protesters continue vigil in City Hall Park
•Jul 1, 2020

Eyewitness News ABC7NY

The view from NewsCopter 7 Wednesday morning was in contrast to one day earlier, when NYPD efforts to clear Centre Street resulted in a brief clash. The Defund Police protesters remained camped out Wednesday morning across from NYC City Hall, the morning after City Council passed a budget that includes $1 billion in NYPD funding cuts. NYPD officers dismantled makeshift barricades the protesters put up Tuesday night on the streets around City Hall, and met little resistance as they surrounded a noticeably smaller contingent who stayed overnight in the park. Two people were arrested when the blockades, constructed with metal barricades and various other street materials, and reinforced with rebar, were taken down on Chambers and Centre streets just before the morning commute started. Charges against the two taken into custody are pending.

Democrat Party Begins Demonizing Mount Rushmore, Refers To July 4 Celebration As ‘Glorifying White Supremacy’
By Ryan Saavedra
Jun 29th, 2020 DailyWire.com

A very patriotic monument, Mount Rushmore is a giant granite cliff in South Dakota with the heads of four US presidents - Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and Roosevelt (Teddy) - carved into it.It's big. Very big.

The Democrat Party began attacking Mount Rushmore on Monday night from their official Twitter account and referred to upcoming Independence Day celebrations at the famed monument as “glorifying white supremacy.”

“Trump has disrespected Native communities time and again,” the Democrats wrote. “He’s attempted to limit their voting rights and blocked critical pandemic relief. Now he’s holding a rally glorifying white supremacy at Mount Rushmore – a region once sacred to tribal communities.”

The Democrat Party linked to an article from the left-wing British newspaper The Guardian, which promoted the extreme view that Mount Rushmore is a “symbol of white supremacy.”

The tweet sparked instant and widespread backlash, and was quickly deleted by the party after only being up for approximately an hour.

Political commentator Stephen Miller commented on the tweet, writing: “Gosh, it sure would be neat if there were an entire industry of professionals who could ask the Democrat nominee for President of his party if he agrees with this sentiment that Mount Rushmore glorifies white supremacy.”

“I mean we still don’t even know where he stands on removing statues,” Miller continued. “They let him out to run around once a week and give a 12-minute statement on something and then back to basement grandpa.”

Political commentator Erielle Davidson wrote on Twitter: “Let the Democrats campaign on taking down Mount Rushmore. If they want to cater to the cultural Marxists, fine. But they’ll lose spectacularly.”

“It would be wise for the Democrats to realize that Twitter is not real life,” Davidson continued. “The cancel campaigns are much louder (and obnoxious) online than in real life.”

Matt Wolking, Deputy Director of Communications – Rapid Response for President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign, tweeted: “June 29, 2020, 9:57 PM ET, The moment the Democrat Party attacked Mount Rushmore, which features George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, as a symbol of white supremacy.”

Wolking added, “The (foreign media) article the Democrat Party linked to quotes an activist saying, ‘Mount Rushmore is a symbol of white supremacy, of structural racism that’s still alive and well in society today.'”

Mark Lotter, Director of Strategic Communications for Team Trump, wrote: “The party of Joe Biden is now attacking Mount Rushmore.”

Zach Parkinson, Deputy Director of Communications – Research for President Donald Trump’s 2020 Campaign, tweeted out photographs of top Democrats visiting Mount Rushmore.

Conservatives started warning last week that the political left was going to begin targeting Mount Rushmore as violent mobs toppled statues and destroyed monuments across the U.S.

Meghan McCain wrote on Twitter: “We’re like one week removed from entire cable news panels debating whether or not we should blow up Mount Rushmore.”

Ben Shapiro wrote on Twitter: “So, when is our woke historical revisionist priesthood going to insist on blowing up Mount Rushmore?”
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem responded to Shapiro’s tweet by writing: “Not on my watch.”
