CORONA Rhode Island sending out NG to enforce quarantine

It’s almost unbelievable. The National Guard in Rhode Island is being used at check points to enforce quarantines, intended to protect Rhode Islanders from New Yorkers.

Rhode Island plans to send the National Guard out to knock door-to-door in an attempt to hunt down anyone who has arrived in the tiny state from New York City during the coronavirus pandemic. State police, meanwhile, have begun pulling over cars with New York state plates.

Gov. Gina Raimondo said anyone traveling there from New York will be ordered to undergo a 14-day quarantine and could face fines or even jail time if they’re found to not comply.

Whoa calm down, there are lot of seasonal rentals opening up and any New Yorkers arriving to them or already there are being asked to quarantine at home for 14 days, everyone in the state considered non-essential is being asked to say home.

The picture shows National Guard personnel at the Amtrak station in Rhode Island waiting for passengers to step off.

That’s pretty dramatic.

Amazing how suddenly the marxists believe in borders. Before this Chinese flu is over all the leftist governors will be at each others throats, it'll be fun watching them fight.

*&#K Cuomo, like to see him try that lawsuit, its a VOLUNTARY quarantine, no one is being rounded up, or told to turn back or leave, but then again its all about him.

I'm here in RI and heard the hullabaloo this afternoon by Raimondo. Problem is, the morons aren't listening to basic common sense advice. Had the first two deaths reported today. No info on age or previous condition.

That being said, I wouldn't expect anything less from an electorate that continuously votes dems into office.

All non-essential retail to close and folks to work from home if possible (except essential personnel) until 4/13. Only 5 at a time can be together at one time.

Food and beverage stores can remain open. Gas stations and the like also.

Good thing beer is a beverage. :chg:

I welcome any corrections from anyone else in the AO if I missed something. B-

Cousin down there has a house in a summer community. He is a year rounder. His neighbor is a NY summer guy who moved up early this year. State police knocked on the guys door yesterday and told him he has to quarantine for 14 days.

Thanks for the first-hand confirmation!

I'm of two minds about this situation. On the one hand, it's gov't over-reach. On the other, it's necessary in 2020 because there are too many self-centered people.

So glad that I don't live in NYC or other large city.

Rhode Island is now stopping all out of state visitors and asking them to self quarantine for 2 weeks if they are staying . Now 3 dead total , 35 hospitalized.

Went to Tom's market here in Coventry this morning. Went in and got what I needed and got out. Only 5 or 6 others in the store. Still no TP though.

I don't know of any TP recipes but maybe I'm missing something.....:shr:

Maine is handling things. On the offshore island of Vinalhaven (50% hard-assed lobster & scallop fishermen; 50% wealthy summer folks who normally don’t arrive until June... except today with many arriving as virus refugees)... local armed men showed up at the ritzy corner of the island, dropping trees across the access road to block them in for a few weeks of imposed quarantine. Take that, MFs

I understand that the national guard checkpoints may have been stopped in RI. the NY governor wasn't pleased and it sounds like he gave the governor a piece of his mind and then some I heard that on coumo's press conference about an hour or so ago

The RI Governor and Cuomo spoke to each other and Cuomo seems to want credit for the RI Governor changing the order to ANY out of state visitors must quarantine for 14 days (excludes workers) but the checkpoints are still there manned by the State Police and National Guard, and house to house checks are still going on. The press seems to want to make Cuomo the hero of the great epidemic and a Democrat contender for president watch the grooming and prepping for him to run.
