Our friend is suffering terribly from the pain and stiffness from rheumatoid arthritis. He's finding it very difficult to continue working due to the pain, and doc meds aren't helping. Does anyone have suggestions for proven remedies to ease the pain?

Some people find help with cucurmin plus piperine, but that's a really nasty disease. Piperine increases absorption or slows metabolism of several drugs, so research is important if they are taking any rx meds.

Sugar and simple carbs are known to really increase inflammation, so drastically cutting back on those may help. I know a woman in her 80s who has had RA since her early thirties. She was a very early adopter of an organic diet, low carbs, almost zero simple sugars, and lots of fresh vegetable juices. Remarkably, she has never needed a joint replacement, takes NO prescription meds, and walks without a cane. Her hands show no deformity, and she's more active than many women half her age.

That, of course, is more than most people are willing to do, but it sure worked for her.

Diet changes. My girlfriend was diagnosed with it about 4 years ago when the pain got really bad. The meds had side effects that really scared her. So she went to a nutritionist. A year of drastic diet change and supplements later she was symptom free. The regular doc retested and it's still there but the inflammation levels are lower than those of a normal person. Now,a few years later, she eats much differently than she used to (healthier), still takes a few supplements and is still doing great. As long as she doesn't "cheat" too often she's pain free.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I'll get my wife to read this and hopefully try the regimen. She does take some prescription meds, so will coordinate w/Dr.

Is he eating anything in the nightshade family? Potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, etc.? If so have him eliminate ALL of those from his diet and immediately, and yes this includes potato chips, potato starch, and any products containing unidentified starches as they are often potato. I discovered last year that potatoes where making my joints swell and horribly, this on top of RA that I already have. I eliminated every form of potato from my diet, including organics, and poof no more mind numbing pain. Do I still have issues with my RA? Sure I do, but not to the level I had when I was eating potatoes. NOTE I don't eat tomatoes all that often so haven't experienced any side affects, but I eat peppers and eggplant all of the time and don't suffer the same side affects as I do with potatoes.

Have her eliminate all veggies from the nightshade family as well to see if this makes any difference. I tried to get my aunt to do the same but she refused to give up potato chips, sigh... she eats a huge bag of chips per day but no dice.

Thanks. I'll get her to include this right away. She also likes potato chips, but then, who doesn't? I expect no quick fix, but Doctors haven't helped so here we go.

Needs a food diary

Whatever side effects from foods will show up in a few days

We cousins seem to have gluten issues in our family leading to bloating , severe arthritis and serious skin issues
As for nightshades i thrive on tomatoe based recipes and crave potatoes for potassium

Cravings for salt are usually the lo thyroid people

Green tea is a pain killer - same principle as Celebrex

Each person needs a different "fuel" and that can only be determined by self study

More good stuff. Thanks. The salt/lo thyroid thing is spot on with her as well.

Be Well

may all be well
I just saw this for the first time.

I cured myself of RA by using a traditional Ayurvedic compound called Yogaraj Guggulu. Modifying diet assisted but the YG did it. I had to take it for about 3 years and by then my symptoms were 100% gone, from extreme pain, stiffness, at times couldn't bend my knees, cut with a knife, play guitar, etcetcetc. I know it was the YG because to experiment I stopped taking it, within about a week symptoms slammed back. Started again and took about 2 weeks to remove pain etc. I tried that for three successive years, and by the third try, the symptoms never came back. So I was on it for about 5 yrs total. Well worth it. If the person with RA is interested I can provide more info, sources, etc.

It took about three months to verify that it was indeed potatoes, in any form, that was causing my joint pain and swelling.
