Rheumatoid arthritis and MMJ

This is a pretty controversial subject in many places and there is alot of skepticism out there on it so I'll just say if this is the wrong place for something like this or it isn't allowed I apologize in advance.

That said; I have rheumatoid arthritis. I've had it for 20 years and until this year it was well managed and I was functional for the most part and active. I have been very blessed and I am still able to work. Spend alot of time raising my kids and doing stuff around my property. Ive been treated with many many different drugs, diet changes, and pain medications during this time so Im not looking for advice on anything besides the topic of medical marijuana and its benefits to someone like me who deals with daily chronic pain and inflamation.

I live in a state that it is legal for treatment as well as recreational use and while I don't love the idea of it my doctor recommended I take a look at it as an alternative to the handful of pain killers I am eating a day at this point just to function. Believe me, if I were not at wits end it would not be an option. Im not generally that open minded but opiate addiction is a very real thing that I don't want to experience.

The other thing is the reason I am posting this here and not on some pothead board is just that; so far what I have read on medical MJ boards has been a whole lot of people with questionable medical issues looking for a license to get high. I trust the caliber of people here on TB2k and I am hoping that I can get some real world advice from someone with some experience on the subject.

What I am wondering is if there is anyone that has had experience treating using MMJ and what they treat for, how often and what methods they use? I have read some promising medical articles on the subject but I have gotten very little input on other forums or they just trash the thread because it isnt allowed on the RA forums I frequent. If it isn't for RA that is fine too, Im just looking for some input on the subject from anyone that had some experience even if it is secondhand.

Thanks for taking the time to read through all this.

Well, after speaking with some people at a dispensary near me I tried some lotion and it helped. I noticed after about 20 minutes that the pain in my hands had decreased significantly. It lasted about an hour or so which will be really helpful in the mornings especially when I am barely able to function trying to get past the pain and stiffness.

I also bought some of the meds they recommended and tried a few puffs in the evening before bed. Mornings and evening is the worst time for me. I have sleep problems because of the pain and it has a snowball effect where it seems like I just can't get any rest. My work and home life suffer as a result. At any rate it definitely helped with pain. The only problem was that I laid in bed pondering all sorts of things for hours so no good for me at bedtime.
I am going to spend more time researching some of the various strains of it and see if there are ways to utilize it that don't include the headiness aspect of it. I have seen some good information relating to the anti inflamatory properties as well as imuno-suppressant qualities. I just don't care for the mental qualities of it. I could see the usefullness for self reflection as an aspect of it but I am more interested in its medicinal qualities with regard to my disease in its physical form. At any rate, it definitely helped me with pain from RA.

You don't have to smoke it. They have a pill form you could use that might not have the same effect as the smoke would.

Heck, they even have it in a lollipop for you to enjoy. My Doc has recommended it for me as well, but I don't want the 'feds' coming at me for being a 2nd amendment supporter and a 'user'. I've seen them come down HARD on some local boyz because of this. No thanks!
