Went to Aldi today in Piedmont, NC...it was a very good trip. Hamburger (70/30) was $2.49/lb limit 2. Bone-in chicken thighs $1.29/lb limit 2. From reports in other areas, I was expecting much higher prices here, too. Veges and fruits were abundant, not too much price increase. Green peppers, zucchini, lettuce higher price but available. Zucchini would be equivalent to 60 cents each. I'll be trying to give those away before long. You know how it goes. There's one on the plant one evening and by morning, it's a baseball bat! :-) Small seedless watermelon $1.89 each. Milk $2.98 gallon. Bacon $3.49/lb no limit. Nathan's hot dogs were up $1 to $4.49 pack. Sugar and flour had each had a limit of 2 bags. No TP.
Speaking of zucchini...if you have a lot of those, when the tomatoes come on, you can make a mock lasagna. Slice onion, tomatoes and zucchini into rounds. Put a layer each vegetable, sprinkle with oregano (if desired), then add a layer of shredded mozzarella. Repeat to fill your baking pan. On top of the final layer of mozzarella, place slices of bacon...however many slices you want. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. It will get VERY juicy so make sure the pan is deep enough or you have something under in case it runs over. I can usually do 2 layers in a glass 9 X 13 cake pan.
